the microphone was an awesome great innovative idea from nintendo cuzz screaming is somthing you automatically doing when you,re getting in panic.
and the fact that the famicom has a powerfull 7bit pcm is enough to reltime generate your voice to tv but also percieves it as a commando signal to change some situations in the game itself.
it would be really cool if those supported famicom and fds games will be ported to the wii,3ds shop channel and use the microphone the blast enemy's away!!!
@Simboiss You can actually buy a Famicom controller that works with the original NES. It's an official product too. Used to have a black and gold one that went with the game. And it worked too.
Man I wish my cousin (who had the original Famicom) had that particular game back then. It would have been amusing to watch him scream to kill those "bunnies". Otherwise the only use of that microphone was just to be silly (we and our brothers would just take the mike and speak gibberish and other stupid stuff while playing, sometimes making up our own sound effects, like death sounds, which made for a lot of laughs).
Though there isn't a FC microphone on NES controlers there still someting like a solder point or header pin connectors on the NES motherboard where a hacker/modder could add a microphone?
The console is most likely perfectly functional, but a Japanese Famicom outputs an NTSC signal.
This YouTube video originates from Sweden, which used the PAL video standard. Chances are the TV shown here was made for the PAL standard.
A Japanese Famicom being used with a PAL TV may have video, despite differences in video signal refresh, but there may be no color because color information is handled very differently between PAL and NTSC standards.
"just buy an av famicom or a modded one and the problem is solved"
Incorrect. The video in CVBS from a Japanese Famicom, regardless of version, will still be NTSC.
In CVBS (composite), the chroma is muxed onto the luma baseband in specific ranges unique for NTSC and PAL.
A PAL only monitor may be driven by the baseband of an NTSC CVBS signal, but it can't decode the color as a PAL monitor will look for color in a range where the chroma signal isn't present, so it'll still be B&W.
Get a multistandard video monitor capable of decoding NTSC.
OR
Modify a Famicom to where it will output a valid PAL signal; merely getting an AV Famicom or modifying a regular Famicom to add auxiliary AV outputs is not enough unless you have an NTSC monitor or the aforementioned multistandard monitor.
Besides, Nintendo removed microphone functionality from the AV Famicom. That leaves getting the original Famicom to make use of all features in "The Legend of Zelda."
@SvenskNostalgi: Man måste ha en Famicom (den vit/röda versionen) för att det ska funka. Den ena kontrollen har en mic, det finns inga mickar på några andra kontroller...
Was it the case that he spooke skånska that they died that fast? Because skånska isn't à nice sound to the ears, and deffinately not Swedish. Good video tough.
why didn't the NES have a mic like the Famicom? i'm confused. but this is pretty interesting anyways, since they're showing the japanese version of zelda.
The manual for this game said Pol's voice hates loud noise and this is what it was refering too. This caused confusion since the NES system doesn't have a mic built in. That's what the clue from the old man in Level 5 was refering too when he said "Secret Power is said to be in the Arrow". This implies that there was some sort of ultrasonic sound generated by the arrow that was lethal to Pol's Voice. At least thats what I got out of it.
The bunnies are called Pol's Voice. Later games even reference this by including lines like "Sound beats Pol's Voice." which also doubles as a hint to use bombs to get rid of them. (Although arrows, if available, work too.)
I thought it was a hint that tell use "use the wistle to kill them" but it's not use. I get it now. Famicom has a microphone like the DS, what a good idea. Too bad it's wasn't used in a lot of game and wasn't put on the NES.

In PH it only paralyzes them lol. The only thing I don't like about the Famicom is that the controllers are directly wired into the console :/

Why is the screen black&white? Where's the color? Broken console?

@BenHutchinson1
If it's an NTSC system being played on a PAL video monitor, then you may still get video but there will be no color.

So are you playing an NTSC to PAL type situation here? Or is the console just broken?

@RobbyRubbish Jag kom på det precis. Plus att på den japanska så satt ju även kontrollerna fast i enheten.

A microphone in the Famicom controller. Awesome idea. Why didn't it make it here? We could've had voice controlled games long ago.
The only other game I can think of that uses this feature is that game made by Takeshi of Takeshi's Castle. Were there any others?
