Why would you launch an escape pod BEFORE battle?

@Wind1000100Movies It's not only an escape pod. It's also a pod to travel to other star destroyers. They use it in episode V where captain Needa travels to he executer to apologize to Vader that the millenium falcon escaped. But yeah it is kind a wired :D
