  • Ive played solar 20 inch ride 16 inch crash 18 inch crash and 14 inch hi hats and honestly the hi hats 18" crash and ride sound great only problem is they are pretty quiet compared to other cymbals ...the 16inch crash well...it kinda sounds like a pan

  • hey I've got a Solar hi-hats & Solar by Sabian Ride cymbal as well as a Paiste crash(16'')

Is it a good concept ?

  • are solar splashes any good? (a 10'' or 12'' one), cuz at my local store those are the only ones they have, i usually play metal and i already have a 10'' HCS Meinl Splash, so, should i buy it?

I've heard solar crashes and hi hats sound like shit, but what about the splashes? And do they have good durability?

  • its pronounced pie-stee not paiste

  • what do you think about gettin solars and gettin better stands for them???

  • @ashrinetohope It's always good to have some decent double braced hardware.

  • yea and i looked and i am gettin stagg SH cymbal pack and stagg double braced stands :) :)

  • @ashrinetohope That's good. Have you tried the Stagg SH cymbals in person?

  • @Pandamonk69 yea i have they sound and look good and seem very durible :)

  • @ashrinetohope Good, well I'm glad I've been able to help.

  • @Pandamonk69 yea thanks dude you have been a massive help to me and have you ever thought of trying to get signed by stagg by going to namm??? cuz ur an amazing drummer :)

  • @ashrinetohope Nah, I'm not that good. This video is pretty bad. It was just a quick improv to show off the cymbals. My main focus is on sound tech rather than drumming.

  • @Pandamonk69 cool but it might be something to concider like i wish my band were mor active at the moment but we arent :( but yea ur a good drummer

  • thanks and i looked at that website thanks :) and yea i think i will probably get sabian b8 but i duno really until i go to the shop and see what they got and do you have a video of your new cymbals????

  • @ashrinetohope I've had the Staggs for years (I don't like my 12" hihats. Would always recommend at least 13"). I simply bought the solars and 101s to sell. You can see me playing with my Staggs at my other youtube account youtube. com/user/Bomb5hed.

  • and is the solar 18" crash good??? :)

  • @ashrinetohope I'd say the crash is the worst thing about solars. The hats and ride ain't bad though. I couldn't start to tell you what you should get for £255, cymbal/drum taste and setup is so subjective, but I'd recommend this website virtuoso. bwwmusic. com/catalogue/instrument. php?cat_id=399 (remove spaces). They offer Stagg cymbals at, by far, the best price I've found and are where I bought mine.

  • @Pandamonk69 thanks and i was concidering stagg sh cuz they sound quite good but i will probably try some cymbals out when i go to get them :)

  • @Pandamonk69 thanks i might try some stagg SH and DH but i might get either stagg sh or sabian b8 probably cuz they sell cymbal packs quite cheap for about £250 and thanks for all the help :)

  • @ashrinetohope Stagg SH's are a bit naff in my opinion. DH's are much better. Sabian B8's are good for the money.

  • Comment removed

  • @ashrinetohope Sabian B8s would be better than Paiste 101s or pst3s

  • @ashrinetohope Oh, I found that company's discount page: virtuoso. bwwmusic. com/catalogue/instrument. php?cat_id=79

From the link above and my previous link, with just a little more than your budget and after trying in a store first, I'd likely get:

    Dual Hammered Range

    10" Bri Splash Med. = 14.99

    15" Bri Crash Med = 23.99

    16" Bri Crash Med = 32.99

    14" HiHat Bite = 70.99

    17" Brilliant China = £39.60

    20" Regular Ride Jazz = £88.80

  • @Pandamonk69 Althought you might prefer the 20" Brilliant Ride Rock = £99.00. Go to a music store and try some out or, at the very least, watch videos on YouTube.

  • hi guys are theys cymbals ok for a begginer who is also in a band????? :)

  • @ashrinetohope I'd say these cymbals are perfect for a beginner. They will take a heavy beating, don't sound too bad and are pretty cheap. Obviously there are much nicer cymbals out there, but these are inexpensive and good for beginner. I prefer the Paiste 101s to the Solars.

The cymbals I use are Stagg DH which are only a little more expensive than these, but they are an acquired taste.

  • @Pandamonk69 thanks i am getting solars soon because no music shops i know of by me sell any paiste and i like solars and thanks for the reply :) btw nice drumming :)

  • cymbols good, drumming shitty

  • I expected those solar to sound SUPER bad. I mean they are so cheap. They are not that bad.

  • The hi hats are ok

  • Are they Sabian Solar 14 Inch Hi Hats?

  • @beanboyo yep

  • At least they look cool

  • Damn Solar makes China too?

  • Sabian solar are a million times better than zildjian's planet z

  • stagg. enough said

  • You are too good to have those crap cymbals.

  • @Nihongoking123 naw ive seen better on waaayyy worst

  • meinl

  • Gonna buy the Solar ride, anyone recommend anything else around the same price except the Paiste 101's?

    Much appreciated.

  • @jakeysevenfold Try to get some Orion (Brazilian cymbals) if you can. They have a model named "Revolution Pro", and they are great.

  • @jakeysevenfold paiste pst 5 / pst 3 they're nice, and cheap too

  • Hell man I love the sabian solar's i have a set of them and there excellent.

  • these are the type of cymbals I have since i'm only 14 and don't get much money :P I Love my paiste 14" crash :D, I also have a Flats arbiter 14" hi-hats and flts arbiter 14" crash (used as ride) :D

  • stagg dude!!!!!

  • dont get any china cymbals other than wuhan dont think just cause they are cheap that they are crap cause they arent i have a 14" Wuhan China and i have a friend with a 18" Wuhan China and they are both awesome.

  • @DeanIsADrummer I wouldn't think that because a cymbal is cheap, it's shit. I use Staggs and love em. Never tried a Wuhan china though.

  • peopl say that the solar cymbals sound crap but in this video HOW DO THEY, the solar crash sounds pretty decent, ok, there isnt much overtone but it produces a good sound

  • @adam1white They do sound shit compared with decent cymbals. But for the price you can't really beat 'em.

  • @Pandamonk69 Haha did you notice the pun?! Not intended

  • @adam1white

I know this comment is very old but i have used the sabian solar crash before and it does not sound good at all. Maybe its a camera effect.

  • @adam1white Everyone has their own personal taste. If you're coming from a background of bronze cymbals, like Ks, HHXs, Signatures and Byzances; definitely Solar would sound like crap. Although Solar has it's purpose and it's own place in the market.

  • i have a

    solar crash, ride, hats

    zildjian crash, solid hats

    paiste crash

  • i like the pingy soun of the ziljian ZXT ride

and i think the ZXT hi hat are no so sencible but sound incredible

  • Does anyone know is zildijen ZHTs rust easily

  • After i purchased my Solar 18" China and Crash/Ride, I would never buy one ever again. I currently use Zildjian ZHTs and ZBTs and they are great.

  • @AllConsumingDrummer I know what you mean, but it all depends on your budget and what you require them for. If it's just for practice, for example, they can be great.

ZBTs are a bit shit too, imo.

  • @Pandamonk69 zbts are awesome

i like them cuz they have a quick attack like a splash but a long decay like a crash and its amazing

  • @AllConsumingDrummer playing live, i love the ZBT ride, but other than that i've had to upgrade them all th ZHTs, all zildjian chinas suck.

  • For a china , do you have to get a special stand or can you just get a normal striaght stand ??

  • @MaDDSkILLZ002 just normal. You might want a bigger felt...

  • @Pandamonk69 Oh right , ok , thank you :)

  • @MaDDSkILLZ002

normal stand or boom stand work. nothing special. :D

  • This just shows that quality over quantity is far better. Check out the PST5 range, it will be the next level up for you.

  • @TomakaBonzo. Nah, I only had these cymbals for sale. I sourced them really cheaply, and sold them on through ebay for profit.

I myself use Stagg DHs which I prefer to most high end cymbals from Paiste, Sabian, Zildjian, etc.

  • the 16 inch crash sounds great! i did enjoy that.

  • because you can't buy sabian sonix anymore.... what is the closest type of sabian cymbal that sounds like sabian sonix?

  • Tbh, I don't know. I've never used Sabian Sonix before. I use Stagg DHs.

  • all of them r usally crap but they sound rikly gd in this vid ! apart from the china wich sounds shit

  • I wouldn't say they sound really good, but yeah they sound alright. I suppose it's just how you play and record them.

Yeah I didn't like the china, but it's still usable.

  • lol wen io first woched it i woz really surprised

  • sooo what is the nearset cymbal type that you cant buy now other than b8 too the sabian sonix

  • I don't understand what you are asking...

  • if you don't mid me asking how much was cymbal set all of it together i mean, also what type of kit is it?

  • I sold the set for £213 including postage, a cymbal bag, a stick bag with sticks, and a drum head set.

My kit is a pearl export.

  • also how old r u

  • Just turned 22 last week. Been playing off & on for the past 9 years. I don't practice nearly enough! :P

  • although the hihat sounds not terrible and the splash is ok but everything else sucks, but in this video they all sound ok haha

  • Haha. I think the ride's not bad either. Brass crashes are always a let down imo. Not too keen on the china either, but a china's a china I suppose. These cymbals were new in the video, and I sold them as such soon after. I instead use Stagg DHs, something similar to that setup.

  • are those 101s miced?

  • By overheads, yeah. I use something similar to the recorderman technique with just kick, snare and overheads.

  • solar FTW!!!

  • oh man do solars ever suck. i have the

16" crash and even after i polished it, it sounded awful compared to my set of dream cymbals.

  • This is my biggest annoyance with a lot of drummers; You get what you pay for! I bet the dream cymbals were at least 3x the price.

Solars are great for beginners but no amount of polish will make them sound like high end cymbals.

  • @pajamaloaf they sound awful compared to any cymbal...even first act

  • What do you use to get that nice shine on the cymbals? I have an 18" Crash/Ride Solar that I got from a pawn shop and clearly they didn't like to clean it, there's tons of gunk on it and there's barely a shine. I managed to make it a bit better using just lemon juice but it's not exactly fast nor is it effective.

  • Those were brand new, but you can buy cymbal cleaner.

  • my first cymbals were the paiste 101 that came with my drum set. Their ok for beginners but save a little and get sabian B8's they are the best beginner cymbals out there and they are not brass.

  • im thinking about buying the paiste 101 cymbal pack

is it worth £120 or are they just a waste of money?

  • Depends what you want from them. If you're expecting the quality of high end cymbals, then yes they are a waste of money. If they are just for beginner/intermediate level and you know what to expect, then they are a great buy. You can get them for £113.99 with free postage at andertons co uk.

If you expect more than just beginner/intermediate cymbals, be prepared to pay at least that per cymbal.

  • Paiste easily do the best beginner cymbals. 101, pst3 and pst5s are much better then the same priced zildjian, sabian and meinl. Same with the intermediate series, Alphas are nicer than XS20's and ZXTs. Even high end Paiste sound the best, the siganture series sound incredible, check them out!

  • nice china

  • no offence, but solar sucks

  • ...compared with high end cymbals. But they are good for beginners and tough enough to take quite a beating.

Also, you get what you pay for. Most beginners don't want to spend a lot.

    Would you agree?

This video was the only time I played these cymbals and I sold them months ago, brand new. I instead use Stagg DHs, which you might consider shite, but I prefer them over most other high end cymbals.

  • It's pronounced Pie-stee, not paste.

  • I know that, but I'm so used to calling them paste. I also think most people know them as paste, so I didn't want to cause confusion.

  • my 12" 101 splash sounds horrible....

  • You get what you pay for...

  • yours sounds totally different from mine

  • How old is yours? Does it have any cracks, etc? What sticks do you use? How do you hit it (correctly?)?

  • i recently bought it and i use zildjian signature sticks thing

i hit it like how u hit it

  • Take it back to where you bought it if you think there is something wrong with it.

  • are the solars made of brass?

  • Yes, both 101s and solars are made of brass. The best budget cymbals I've found are in the Stagg DH series.

  • ok thanks!

  • are the solars durable becuase i need something thats gunna last long my cymblas that came with my pearl forum are all bent up after like a month.

  • They seemed pretty solid to me. Should last years instead of months, but it depends on your playing technique.

  • lol i'm a pretty hard hitter

  • Oops, Bomb5hed is my business account.

If you change your technique cymbals should last a lot longer. However, cymbals coming with basic kits are usually pretty shit. Solars should last as long as any professional cymbal.

  • the ride is 5/5

    hi hats 4/5

    and crash 2/5.

the crash is just too heavy, it's like a break disc, is damages your sticks too.

  • would you recomend the solars or the 101s wich ones would you say?

  • My preference is the 101s, but tbh it doesn't matter a great deal. Whatever's cheapest...

  • dude ur sick! im about 2 buy a pack of sabian solar cymbals [hats, crash, and ride] do u think this is a good choice?

  • answer same as below :)

  • Yes they are!

  • im about to buy a set of paiste 101's the 14 inch hhats 16 crash and 20 ride good idea??

  • Depends on what you need them for/expect from them. They are really decent beginner cymbals.

  • sabian solar sux

  • thank you

  • ... compared to much dearer cymbals, but they are decent for the price and market they are aimed at.

  • china smells like a trash can. no offence. i have a zildjian 18" oriental trash china :)

  • I might get the 10" splash & the 18" china do you recommend them?

  • I find it harder to distinguish quality with splashes and chinas than other cymbals. I think this is because the splash is such a small, rarely used, accent and the china is so trashy. So, for a beginner/intermediate, they would be great.

  • Thanks alot that helped I am going to buy them soon.

  • ive got the same solar crash and hi hats!

    i love them all!

  • very good for begginers! not emplying your a beginner

  • hehe cute little splash at the start :P

im gonna buy the 20" ride and the 18" chenese :D do u recomand them? :P plz rlpy ^^ thx

  • For beginners, yeah definitely. If you're willing to spend slightly more on a ride, I'd recommend the Paiste PST3 20" ride. If not, the 101 is well worth the price.

If you're interested, I'm selling this full set for £240 (inc. p&p).

  • Oops, Bomb5hed is my business account. I always forget to swap them.

  • ok thx ^^

  • those cymbals sucka at all....

  • what brand cymbals do you prefer out of the two you use?

  • I don't use these, I use stagg DHs, but i'd have to say the Paiste 101s slightly win out to my taste, although the Sabians certainly aren't far behind.

I have this set for sale (brand new except for being played in this promotional video) if you're interested. They are not on eBay just now but will be again soon.

  • i've got that paiste 101 ride

  • What do you think of it?

  • Thanks man, this vid helps me with my choice to buy the Paiste 101 Brass set, I will be heapy when I got that set home:P:D

  • Glad it helped :)

  • i love the sound of the crashes and china

i think its great how cheap cymbals can sound awesome XD

  • Thanks. They're not awesome, but are better than you'd expect.

  • i have a lil speedfire 16" crash and i much prefer it to me Zildjian ZBT rock crash, gives a nicer sound i think =)

  • Those solars sound not too bad at all!

  • You replaced the Solar Ride with the Paiste? The ride is thing I like most about the Solar line. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

  • I agree, but I got good deals on these cymbals separately and decided to put them all together as a full set to sell.

    Thank you for your input.

  • Oops i replied from my business account. I keep forgetting to switch.

  • They sound really nice actually, in my opinion!

  • Yeah they're not bad.

  • fuck

  • shit

  • hey anyone wanna help me... im lookin to get new cymbals from sabian whats a good set and is the solar the cheap ones....oh is zildjan black a good set

  • Comment removed

  • What is your budget, where do you live, what style of music do you play and what is your experience level?

  • i live in akron ohio and i play rock im intermediate but i wants something i can play shows with and not be embarassed u know... and the money i have few hundred

  • a few hundred? What kind of setup do you want? Hihat, 2 crashes and a ride?

Well, i usually suggest Stagg DHs, but people look down on stagg because their budget series. So people might look down on you before they hear them. They do tend to be a lot cheaper than sabian, zildjian, paiste, etc.

I'd probably recommend paiste or sabian. Sabian B8s aren't bad for the price over in the US.

  • why do the crashes sound different like the solar crash sounds different from the paiste 101 crash? They're the same size!

    Btw, I have a solar 16" crash :P

  • Even 2 16" solar crashes would sound different, althought not nearly as much as different makes/models.

They're made differently with maybe slightly different metals. They are also hammered and lathed differently and are differently shaped (especially the bells). They may also be different thicknesses, tempered at different temperatures, etc, etc.

  • You can even quite clearly see the differences in hammering techniques on the video.

The hammering marks on the solars are small and spaced far apart, whereas on the paiste 101s they are large and close together. This will cause different sounds.

Also, the lathing looks to be evenly spaced on the solars but thin near the middle, getting wider near the edge on the 101s.

Basically, different techniques lead to different sounds.

  • WAH the china sounds horrible ^^ although the other cymbals are okey

  • The china sounds like chinas do. Trashy!

  • Its pronounced PIE-STE not paste.

And why is the volume so low?

  • Yeah i understand that. I'm just so used to pronouncing it paste that i did it here.

The volume of my speaking is low because the volume of my drums is so high and I didn't bothered to try and even it out. I knew i'd be adding annotations, so it didn't matter. The volume of the whole thing is about right though.

  • Oh yeah bout the volume thing.. i posted the comment before i heard the cymbal sound..lol.i only heard your voice

  • personally I hate solar they sound like trash cans haha. but solar hats are pretty awesome

  • I wouldn't say they are awesome, but i do think brass hats are a lot better than brass crashes. Rides too.

  • You can hardly hear the ride!

  • Turn up your volume then.

A ride is meant to be played softly compared to a crash, so it won't be as loud.

I can hear it fine though. You must have the volume down really low not to hear that.

  • I can hear it, It's just because i play metal i like really pingy rides, so this one seems weak to me. It's just an opinion.

  • what would you say about the solar china? because i want to get a china and since i've already got 4 solar cymbals and they're pretty good for the price i though i'd get that.

  • Chinas are alwaysr trashy, so i'd say you probably can't go wrong. I would consider other cymbals for the future though, rather than all sabian solar.

  • Pitch Black china's aren't. Bleh.

  • I think , you have very good cymbals and drums !!! THE BEST !!!!!

Do you know John Dolmayan ?

  • Thank you. I'm selling the cymbals. Yeah i know who he is.

  • i like the paiste 101 than solar

  • I slightly prefer the paistes too. I'm selling them as a full set.

  • What do you think about the sabian solar 14" Hi-hat

  • They are decent for brass hi-hats. Obviously you can get much better hi-hats, but for the price you can't get much better.

  • Thank you

  • a really good sound for the price u pay 4 them!!!
