You have outdone yourself, Don. This should be called "Fantasia on Soldier's Joy," like Ralph Vaughn Williams' "Fantasia on Greensleeves." Great stuff
I think the Zeppster and the Boogster have known each other for about 10 years or so on the Banjo Hangout. IMHO there is no better CH picker, and one day I've got to go to his store and do some lick-stealing :)
Don, thank you so much! I learned Soldiers Joy from your video series on making a tune your own, but this video is even more helpful (I wouldn't have thought that possible). You make it look so easy, but you have shown it in a way that is easy to follow...so maybe some day I can do it as well. Wonderful resource.
A masterclass, I think. It shows what is and what control over technique, instrument and tune can do, the ability to play variations on the go... And makes it look like a doodle! I wish, hope you post more lessons over here Mr Zepp. They are such encouragement. Thanks a lot.
Nice demo! I can't help but marvel at the fast 'ripple of 8 notes' that turns up a few times in the tune (sorry - don't know much about correct music terminolgy).
Those are triplets (defined as 3 notes of the same type played in the time normally used by 2 of those notes). They are not hard--in this case, mostly double hammer-ons and pull-offs.
That is such a help with my playing thankyou
