  • lame it doesnt have that delicious diesel smell Duramax all the way baby

  • I drive a vw polo 1.4 tdi, which wasn't sold in america. anyway, I get about 65 mpg on the highway. It is even more fuel efficient than the jetta oder golf tdi, but it is a lot louder because it is a 3 cylinder engine. but i love the diesel sound :)

  • hahaha, Diesel wasn't allowed b/c of emissions tests? Have you seen some of the shit boxes on the roads in the U.S.? I'm sure those 20-year old Cavaliers spewing black death from their exhausts are not road worthy. I bet those emissions tests are pretty strict and everybody is subject to testing on a yearly basis. No? then why bother!

  • I think he means 236lb.ft., not 263...that's about the same as a lot of bigger V6s...

  • this is cool

  • hybrids are for pussies

  • And i forgot: I bought my prius with $21900 and jetta starts at $25000.

Man, jetta does not make sense for me compared with prius. If you compare it with something else maybe makes sense. My nissan has 3.5 v6, but i bought prius in for good mileage, and for saving money.

  • @mlg779 The Jetta TDI starts at $22,900 and the Prius starts at $23,500.

The Jetta TDI gets better mileage, costs less to buy, costs less per gallon where I live and isn't an embarrassing, compromising car that people want to run over with their Hummer. Plus, I don't have expensive toxic batteries to replace!

The sole reason for me buying my TDI was because my Land Rover gets 13.8 MPG and the VW Jetta on the highway if you really baby it can get 65-70MPG, average being 48-52.

  • @braydenmartindale Wow .. man... " That THINg wobbles like it's made of cardboard if it's slightly windy" ???????????? really ?? Again I own one and drove it through any condition; you are not making any sense. IT'S A REGULAR CAR MAN !!!!!!!!! and the ride is very very smooothh... It's a Toyota !! , not a Volkswagen ! You cannot compare the ride of a Toyota with a Volkswagen. And again My prius GEN III package II was $21900 and beats the price for the cheapest jetta.

  • @braydenmartindale You are full of nonsense man with you MPG of Jetta. Look on youtube for " MPG Wars: Toyota Prius v Volkswagen v Mini v Ford v Honda Fuel Economy Comparison " and you will see how much your jetta does in the same conditions with other cars. Even Honda Insight beats the Jetta at MPG.

  • lets see here, you have a choice, drive a Prius which makes you look like a pansy and get 50 mpg or drive a TDI Jetta, take off the badge and nobody will know its a TDI, get 50 mpg, Drive a car thats actually fun to drive and have a 6 speed... I think I'll take the Jetta thanks, Although I really want the TDI Cup but it was a special edition.

  • What makes me laugh is that some tofu eating Liberal will still buy a Prius over this. The Jetta TDI is a no brainer.

  • @7477238 I am a conservative and still own a prius. I don't care about that crap of saving the planet. I care about saving my wallet. I get minimum 56MPG

  • @mlg779 Your not saving much, my brand new Jetta TDI averages 49.8 MPG with mostly city stop and go traffic. Except diesel costs alot less than gas does too, so you're paying more for an ugly little embarrassing eco box!

  • @braydenmartindale your sports car goes 0 to 60 in 9 sec, and my prius in 10 sec.

jetta is rated 31mpg city ande 40 mpg highway and if you say it goes 49.8 mpg that means that in the same driving conditions with my prius i will get at least 60mpg. I also do not have to change fuel filters, brake pads ( with my driving for at least 150000 miles), plus reliability of the toyota prius does not compare with jetta. you will be lucky to reach 100000 with no problems.

  • @mlg779 Sports car? Who said it was a sports car?

Plus, those are EPA ratings, look up real world tests. The EPA also rates your little plastic eco-box at 48 and 45.

I save more money than you will and I'll also be driving it longer, your batteries will wear out after awhile, the Jetta and Golf diesels can be found with LOADS of miles, my brother has a older jetta with 400,000 miles on it all original.

Every toyota is crap, I test drove both the prius AND the camry they feel like trash

  • @braydenmartindale Prius gen III id rated at 49 and 51, Prius gen II is rated at 48 and 45.

@luminaeus In Europe Prius is more expensive than here, one of the reasons is not very popular and is true, that you have more choice for diesels than here.

  • @mlg779

You do realize the Prius is one of the worst pieces of plastic trash in the world? Go to the big reviewers like Top Gear. It's a crappy little plastic bucket and before I drove one I thought it was all lies and rumours but really it is crap. As for acceleration, well what acceleration? Even the dealer trying to sell it to me asked if I was going flat out trying to get onto the freeway, he was shocked with it more than I was!

I'll stick with my no compromise cheap to run clean diesel!

  • @braydenmartindale You do realize that I own a prius, right? and please tell me why is a piece of plastic ? I really don't se a difference between prius and my other $40000 car, except that saves me a ton of money and is half the price. Do you think that after I get in the car I start touching the car to see how it feels, or drive the car? What you are talking about here are just stories to put the kids to sleep.

  • @mlg779 Before commenting ensure it makes proper sense.

That THINg wobbles like it's made of cardboard if it's slightly windy, and anything other than clean, dry pavement it's actually scary driving the thing.

I found a huge difference between the Prius and my 20k Jetta TDI, and a big difference between the Prius and my $70000 Land Rover. The Jetta costs less than the Prius, gets almost the same MPG except it sips diesel which costs almost a dollar less per gallon where I live.

  • @braydenmartindale MPG Wars City Prius - 47.2 MPG Honda Insight - 44.1 MPG Jetta - 41.2 MPG Ford Fusion - 39.6 MPG Mini Cooper - 38.5 MPG Back roads Prius - 48.7 MPG Honda Insight - 43.4 MPG Ford Fusion - 35.1 MPG Jetta - 31.6 MPG Mini Cooper - 30.1 MPG Highway Prius - 47.4 MPG Jetta - 40.6 MPG Honda Insight - 38.6 MPG Ford Fusion - 36.0 MPG Mini Cooper - 33.3 MPG Combined City Prius - 47.6 MPG Honda Insight - 42.3 MPG Jetta - 38.1 MPG Ford Fusion - 37.3 MPG Mini Cooper - 33.3 MPG
  • @mlg779 Now take in the fact that diesel costs less than gasoline, the car costs less upfront, AND I won't need to replace any expensive toxic batteries in my Jetta.

Drive both, it's not ALL about mileage, mileage doesn't matter if your stuck in a shop, or getting new batteries etc. I HAVE driven both, AND a Nissan Altima Hybrid AND a Toyota Camry Hybrid, AND a shitty little Prius..

Now excuse me while I run your plastic little eco-box down with my 5500 pound Land Rover....

  • @braydenmartindale You have a brain issue man.. seriously. In all your post you mention " replace expensive toxic batteries" which is not true. You never replace the batteries on Prius. There is a taxi cab company in Canada who changed the batteries on their prius at 700000 km = 435000 miles but by that time the car was paid off only by the gas savings. Replacement of the batteries is between $2200 - $2600. And any way you use batteries in your car, cellphone, watches, basically anywhere.

  • @braydenmartindale And diesel is more expensive at least is USA.

And again you use this one " plastic little eco-box" in your posts which again is not true, atually is far from beeing true, which makes me wonder if you even know how Prius looks like. Prius is made just like any other car, maybe better.

MAN, ALL YOUR INFORMATION ABOUT Prius IS FALSE, ACTUALLY VERY, VERY FALSE !!!!!!!!

  • @mlg779 I don't give a fuck, I don't live in the USA.

I DROVE a Prius for a whole day I know how much of a shitty plastic econobox the thing is, the Camry Hybrid is pretty shitty too, by the way.

Yeah your right, my personal experiences cannot be true, they are all false and my towns Toyota dealer MUST be selling a fake prius, right?

Your information is wrong about the Jetta too, I get MUCH better mileage than what you state.

NOW, as kindly as I WISH I could say this, go fuck yourself.

  • @braydenmartindale Got it man " shitty plastic econobox " That's all your brain can do; Don't stress much, you need that brain for other things.

  • @mlg779 It is a shitty plastic eco box, you can't deny it, thats my opinion which also happens to be the worlds most renowned car reviewer's opinion on the Prius too. I probably won't comment anymore, I see you don't have a care for others opinions anyways, like most Americans. Your from a Northern State aren't you?

  • @braydenmartindale No, I'm from southern state, and also immigrated in USA over 12 years ago from Europe. I know the diesel mania from Europe. I's a different world here also the Diesel fuel is not the same quality as it is in Europe. Also Volkswagens diesel are more expensive than in Europe compared with Prius which is cheaper here. The maintenance is also a lot more on diesels compared with Prius.

So, whatever you like man, it's your money.

  • @mlg779 Your not European, your too stupid to be European! I have dual citizenship England/UK and Canada.

Learn your numbers than come back with some real facts, American.

  • @braydenmartindale to much brainwashing in UK and Canada that's why UK is filamentary you lost your freedom to European Union, and you do not even have guns to defend yourself from the police states that you live in.

so no I know why you a thinking like that and why you are so frustrated.

  • @mlg779 LOL Yeah, the UK and Canada brainwashed me to hate the Prius ;)

Ask Jeremy Clarkson, the worlds most respected car enthusiast what he thinks about the Prius.

Oh by the way, before I lived in Canada, I lived in the US for a good year and a half, it was horrid so I moved. Have fun it your shitbag country, I'll enjoy mine with free Healthcare and cheaper gas prices, OH and a higher Dollar too :)

  • the gale banks system has headers on it too

  • @braydenmartindale Why the hate towards America? Is that what Canadians are like? Hate other countries for dumb reasons.

  • @MessersmithWill Did you even read all the comments? I was born an American. I hated it so I moved, everyone either is, or tries to make themselves SEEM stupid. I hated everything about America so I moved to Canada, got citizenship, went to University in the United Kingdom with family members whom live there, came back here. America is hated by all abroad, thats why some of your soldiers and press pose as Canadians so they are in less danger, nobody hates us ;)

  • @mlg779 Oh, by the way... What are you still commenting for? Don't you have so more gospel BS to be listening too?

  • @braydenmartindale Obviously you've never owned one. The MKV Jetta is one of the most solidly built, excessively safe cars on the road today...IMO too much so at the expense of fuel economy...in the gasoline cars anyway. It's every bit as reliable as anything from Japan and a hell of a lot sturdier...comparing to a Prius? Let's see, twice the torque, faster, funner, far better looking, cheaper, nicer interior, have I left anything out? You want a "plastic eco box", go find a Civic or a Fit.

  • @yellowmusicfreak You sent this to the wrong guy mate, I hate the Prius, and own a 2007 Jetta TDI.

  • @7477238

Nevermind that the batteries use huge amounts of toxic elements and consume ridiculous amounts of energy to produce. A diesel is good old fashioned iron and steel :)

  • @luminaeus i guess you dont know where iron or steel come from lol...

  • @EpicXXProductions

Iron and steel can be refined without creating a miles wide dead zone around the refinery. Take a look at the production of nickel-cadmium batteries.

  • @luminaeus it also leaves unsafe mines and large areas of land tapped, contaminated. and unusable for anything other than a wasteland.

  • @EpicXXProductions why argue about batteries being better when the prius still has a gas engine as well, worst of both worlds.

  • The real test of acceleration is not from 0-60mph. When do you ever do that???

The real value of acceleration is 60-90mph when you want to pass a transport truck within a short distance. The Jetta TDI is superb in this range.

  • I'm so glad to be selling mine. 39k miles and she's outa here.

  • I love my new 2011 Jetta TDI and wrote an article entitled The Search for a Green Vehicle: Toyota Prius Versus VW Jetta TDI. Do a google search.

  • Now Motor Diesel are not dirty or slow !

in Europe, we drive diesel car +-85%...

    We have the most beautiful Car like : Audi A4,A5,A6... TDi V6 3.0L 240HP, BMW 330/530D 6cyl 3.0L 241HP or 335/535D 6cyl 3.0L "Bi-Turbo" 286HP and Mercedes Klass C/E... 320Cdi V6 3.2L 240HP... and many more... > Vw, Alfa, Volvo, Opel, Peugeot, Seat, Jaguar Diesel > Just +- 8Liter / 60Miles !

And the Benzine is very expensive in europe, (+-1.5€ per liter and Diesel +-1€) !

Sorry for my bad english... i speak french !

  • I got 53.7 on my last tank mostly city. Just gotta baby the clutch in a 98.

  • @tyboy2400

The old VW diesel may have done mpg on the highway but this did the 31mpg on mixed town/highway driving

  • @TheVtieg6 dude i own one of these, and you really have to drive aggressively to get 31 mpg. the highest mpg i ever got was 65.4mpg. the EPA is way off.

  • @tyboy2400

The 50MPG models were 90HP, the new one is 140HP. So its not as bad as it seems. I suspect the EPA crap on the cars has reduced the MPG too not to mention making everything more complicated under the hood. I have heard that if you drive these new cars carefully you can still get high 40's MPG. It's easy to put your foot in the throttle when it has more power.

  • search for bring diesel engines to america on facebook and like it we need to see how many people we can get

  • I want the 6 speed manual so bad!!!

  • The Diesel Engine - The best kept secret in the U.S. We could import 20 million less barrels of foreign oil if we'd all switch to diesel.

  • My Dad has one - the diesel is the quietest diesel I have ever had trouble hearing. The engine doesn't knock and runs smoothly. It also had pounds of low end torque giving it great performance without racing the engine.

  • sry @retetikker, that was supposed to be @'ed at @luketiger87

  • @retetikker hmmm actually if you check out old documentaries of Hitler he rode in a Mercedes..... :P

HAHAHA, what does a modern car brand have to do with a lunatic who started a war 80 years ago?

  • One of my friends drives one of these, its very nice; I like it.

  • Volkswagem

    Nazi car

  • @luketiger87 Fuck you! I drive a VW and I'm not a nazi!

  • @retetikker But, VW is Germany, Hitle who say WE WILL MADE A POPULAR CAR,

  • @retetikker: Don't let people rile you up over idiotic nonsense! Should I hate Toyota because of Pearl Harbor? Wars are fought by governments and paid for with the blood of their citizens. Germans are people. Japanese are people. Americans are people. It is our governments who wage war, not our people. I know of very few people who would seek to harm another because of their nationality. Ignore the idiot and enjoy your VW. I plan to try and swap a VW TDI engine into my Camry for 50 MPG.

  • @luketiger87 Opposed to the KKK wagon? The confederate fucktard? Inbred mobile?

Get educated, actually educated. Then try and understand how the rest of the planet looks at you.

  • This is what we used to call "BORA" here in Mexico. But right now it's production is over. Volkswagen made a whole new car based on this car's platform which is called "the new Jetta". It's design is way much better, is really beautiful and elegant. Also the new Passat looks like the new jetta but with some diferent details. I'm glad Volkswagen is back with less curved lines. The new models are just awesome!

  • I like Jetta, but I like they to make also another Version, like a Golf MKVI GTi the lights from 2010.. and also bumpers. this one also good too this one of old version.

  • In cold weather climates, do these VW diesels need fuel additives to keep the fuel from gelling? or do they need the engine block heaters? Excessive cold weather warm ups?

  • Sounds like a canal boat

  • why not bring the dizel golf to US too?

  • @FatasMe THEY JUST DID NEW GOLF TDI 2011

  • @kladusa1990 yeah, i realised when i posted hah

  • the new "volswagn jeda tittie eye"

    lol

thats how it sounds for us europeans, when you americans say it

  • @PhaetonPower thats awesome.

  • It does NOT make 263 ft/lbs of torque.......it makes 236 ft/lbs of torque, but I still love the car. I got the Sportwagen with DSG in candy white with black Khartoum wheels in 18".

  • Which cars have a clutchless manual transmission?

  • no more gore. no more gore

  • My dad just bought one with a luxury pakage. AMAZING!

  • Wow!! It's the first time for me to hear a complement from insideline,,, it has to be a great car

  • -punch- Silver one hehe

  • my dad bought 09 jetta tdi, and it's a great car. it handles great and drives very well. with the 2.0l turbo diesel andthe 6 speed auto, it'll get up and go.

  • Very very underrated car.

  • @austinman1995

hey man i've seen your comments around these vids, i'm thinking about getting the new tdi and i guess edmunds says 06 had a lot of engine issues, 4 yrs later have they improved "electrical" issues? like i really like VW and would like something like this and i dont want to spend time in the shop....i also plan to get the 6 spd fuck the automatic haha ;)

  • check my car out! jetta tdi, im selling it!

  • lol 4 valve no its 8 valve know ur sh#@ before u talk and yes its a great jetta

  • @dogyouare actually i believe the newest tdi is 4 valves per cylinder which makes it a 16 valve instead of an 8 valve

  • why they didnt make the r-line for the jetta

    i mean come on

  • @austinman1995 yes but my stepmom drives the automatic and trust me she doesnt drive it hard at all and just the other day the tranny finally gave out. we have three tdi jettas now two are sticks and ones automatic. both sticks are in great shape. also the rear brakes on these things ALWAYS lock up which is another contributing factor to the transmission problems.

  • song name please!!!!!

    i love jetta

  • why diesel engines are so rare in US ?

  • @AdrianosFidi Diesels in USA had (and continue to have) a reputation of being slow and spewing smoke and hydrocarbons in the past. American cars may have had low quality years ago, but they were certainly powerful and fast. They also didn't smoke, so there was no impression of high emissions (although they were polluters). Many people are starting to recognize diesels in USA, mostly due to the high mileage. The Jetta TDI is selling well and we await more models from VW and Audi.

  • @peebster7272 diesels wouldnt pollute if they would have flters

  • I'll take this over a crappy hybrid any day of the week. I would go the manual transmission route though. More speed and better fuel economy!

  • I cannot understand, what the Americans at Hatchbacks to find so great!? Here in Germany the Jetta is driven only by old people. Young people drive GOLF. Volkswagen Processing Quality, the Material aso is great - the Best, like Mercedes, Audi, BMW....or Skoda, Seat aso

  • @Triomfator

Yeah... If only Golf didin't fuck up the looks. The last true golf was the MK4. (I own one TDI-110. :D)

  • Driven only by old people? Hast du dich schonmal umgeschaut? Der Jetta ist vorallem bei jungen Leuten beliebt, den kann man viel besser tunen als den Golf,... und besser sieht er auch aus.

  • Not to mention that the Prius is boring as bat crap whereas the TDI Jetta is fun to drive and handles well

  • Comment removed

  • hey im from EUROPE...maby in america TOYOTAS are less expencive as VW...but in europe vw is most sling cars..coz they give u everything for not so HIGH price....preformances,compfort,look everything.....BUT THERE IS NO WAY TO TALK ABOUT PEPLE TASTES FOR CARs..everyones like smt ELSE

  • @TsunamiDream92 exactly in greece i always see polos jettas etc. and theyre all diesl, especially in chios i have only seen toyota pickups and like 2 or 3 camreys

  • "crazygreekniko"Yap..most of vw are diesel..i dont say that TOYOTAS arenT GOOD..but i love german PERFECTION more.. :D

  • exactly plus german cars are just plains sexier

  • yess in deed... :D

  • Can you get this car with every option and leave out leather or do u have to get leather

  • @TCB1468 It's actually not leather but V-tex leatherette. It's basically vinyl that looks like leather and it feels like leather too.

  • @ripper3200

Is that trying to prove anything?

  • 2009 sales

    Toyota - 1,770,149

    VW - 297,882

  • @ripper3200 yea because that what i base what car i am going to buy. what everyone else is buying.

  • LMAO

You got to be kidding me...

You form a sentence about as well as VW fans form an opinion.

    Oct

    Prius - 15,000 sold

Jetta - 1,800 sold Oh by the way, no one is telling you to buy anything. No one except VW fans. I could careless about Toyota or VW, it's just fun to throw a fact out there and watch people like you get mad over a fact.

I mean look at them... it's funny as hell! They act like it's no big deal but if it were the other way around they would be all over it!

  • How many Toyata's were recalled after all the fatal accidents they caused again?

  • Comment removed

  • So stop trying to act like you care about people, because all you care about is yourself.

  • It's called a typo, get over it. Did i hurt the wittle fanboys feelings :( ohhh :(

LMAO Yes, you you have nothing to say about the shitty toyAtas, so you make it personal. I drive one of the safest cars in the world, I *must* hate people! Next time I'll get a Prius so I can kill myself as well as whoever I hit thanks to that sticky gas-pedal... That will show how much love I have for everyone! LOL

    You think sooo logically.

  • That's the best you could do?

  • Or should I say you you could do?

  • tdi better than hybrid... hidden costs and unfortold pollution involved in hybrids. you have to change batteries in EVERYthing; tv remote, gas cars, backup generators. Lead acid and nimh are very polluting and consider the pollution required to mine the elemental ore to manufacture the battery packs. then, in six years when you have to replace all the packs in a hybrid, then what? green my ass... at least diesel soot settles to the ground and feeds trees with CO2.

  • ripper, you're STILL commenting on this video? holy shit. p.s. vdub's better

  • i rather get the jetta tdi looks better then the prius and good luck with your prius when something brakes.

  • Toyota Prius - 15,000 sold Oct. 2009

VW Jetta TDI - 1,800 sold Oct. 2009

  • i like the americans enthusiasm for diesel. but you overslept the new diesel technology for over 15 years. all over the world 40% of all new mercedes, bmw, audi, vw are diesel.

even porsche is selling the cayenne with a diesel engine

  • Fast Fact

In the month of Oct. 2009, the VW Jetta TDI sold 1,839 units. In that same period of time, the Toyota Prius sold 14,569 units.

  • Fact: VW beat Toyota to become the number one car manufacturer in the world. German engineering is unparalleled. The Prius is the only car in Toyota's lineup that holds any potential

  • In areas of high motor vehicle traffic, such as in large cities, the amount of nitrogen oxides emitted into the atmosphere can be quite significant.

Carbon monoxide, with the chemical formula CO, is a major atmospheric pollutant in urban areas, chiefly from exhaust of internal combustion. It is a colorless, odorless and tasteless, yet highly toxic gas.

  • When NOx and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) react in the presence of sunlight, they form photochemical smog, a significant form of air pollution, especially in the summer. Children, people with lung diseases such as asthma, and people who work or exercise outside are susceptible to adverse effects of smog such as damage to lung tissue and reduction in lung function.

  • 733 mile test done in conditions that most benefit the TDI by VW to discredit the Prius, revealed some interesting numbers... CO2 Emitted: '09 Jetta TDI: 146.37kg '04 Prius: 137.05kg CO Emitted: '09 Jetta TDI: 293.2g '04 Prius: 73.3g NOx Emitted: '09 Jetta TDI: 36.65g '04 Prius: 7.33g Who cares about air quality?
  • Camry - 30,000

    Corolla - 25,000

    Prius - 15,000

    Jetta TDI - 2,000

  • That shows that the American have a bad Taste of Cars. The Jetta is better looking than any Prius or Corolla. And the Camry is a shitty looking car!!!

  • now imagine a TDI hybrid. the prius would be dead for sure

  • Comment removed

  • The best way to go green is to take public transit or ride your bicycle, since I can't use my bicycle for work, after comparing Prius and VW TDi for months and verifiying with their 2010 models, I went for the Golf Wagon TDI, with manual 6 speed. Although the Prius is technically a superior car, I just can't stand Toyota's toy looking interior. There really is a big gap between Toyota and Lexus but I find the 2010 Golf with the Audi style new dashboard has pretty decent interior.

  • "Although the Prius is technically a superior car" no

  • Hybrid IS superior. My 2010 Golf TDI wagon is old school technology, 6 speed manual, but I like it.

  • @fastalan 6 Speed manual is old school ? its economical as hell. of course a 8-speed automatic would be better but there are stil cars sold with 4-speed automatic. This is oldschool !

  • @ichundichundduunder

I mean VW old school... DSG VW new school.

  • I would SO much rather have the wagon version of this car over the sedan.

  • for a small diesel engine, the fuel consumption does not impress me at all.

  • I liked my 2ooo tdi Jet BUT it was a maintenance hog. The last two summers I needed $3,ooo + in maintenance.

Even thou I liked my Jet I gave up on it n got a 2oo9 Suzuki SX4 wagon, not a diesel n only 32 mpogs but almost $8,ooo less than a Jet wagon....

I miss my Jet I truly do but I guess I can not afford a VW, 8K$ is lotsO beans.....

  • Dude that is why I did't buy a Jetta... I drove one, everything was OK... nice interior, good handling all good...

But when I checked the reliability scores... A disaster!

It will put smile on you face for a while, but after that you will be very sorry for your choice.

  • @jamclam1 Manual tranny is always cheaper to maintain and more reliable, even more so now that automatics are becoming more complex (yet perform much better and are more economic). And for long time manual drivers, going without a clutch is outrageous. I am one of them, and i have tried these clutchless manual tranny's, they do shift fast but shifting is not as satisfying without the control a clutch offers.

  • I own this car and many previous WVs before it.

All of them have made it to 250k without any issues.

Other then the standard things you need to change like the timing belt and such.

  • must be careful with those engines to use in good condition you must stay 5 minutes before start to drive , and also wait 10 minutes parked before turn off the engine .

and theres a disease on the 2.0 tdi the cylinder head is very brittle .

  • @VillejeanRyder35 What??? Just admit that you´ve never driven one! It isn´t brittle and you don´t have to stay any minute before starting. Just turn the ingition on for 2 or 3 seconds and start the enigine. I mean in winter. The glowplugs have to warm up the diesel becouse it isn´t so fluid as petrol. It is more reliable than a petrol version! The only thing you have to watch is fuel. You can easily forget that it is a diesel.

  • what? i already drove a tdi , glowplug are made just for warm the combustion chamber not head cylinder ,when you start your car and you go the highway 2 minutes after its bad for the engine because youll have a thermal shock between your head cylinder and thedown engine and you BETTER wait 10 minutes before turn off the engine

  • you BETTER wait 10 minutes before turn off the engine then if you want to change your turbo at 150 000 kms that aint my problem , and the cylinder head gasket problem on the 2.0 tdi 140 is a problem known by WV group . im working inna garage i know what talking about then if you are a mechanic with knowledge its useless to put "-1" ...

and my advices are applicable to all engines especially turbo aspirated !!!!

  • You can wright everything about yourself. I drove a diesel my friends have diesel powered cars. And 3 of them have Golf 5 with the same engine like this jetta. After 6 years they´ve never had problems with it. Spending this 10 minutes won´t make any change. You´ll just spend 10 minutes in your car for nothing. Do you realy think the VW will send a car for sale without testing it for this problems? NEVER!

  • okay you're right i'm mechanic and i did studies for nothing thats what you say in fact ? okay you're right its a german car you won't admit that on many 2.0l tdi have a problems with the head cylinder gasket okay go to google france and write 2.0 tdi 140 culasse and you will see by yourself ...

  • ten mins is way overkill for turbo cool down 30 seconds to a min is about normal. at the shop i work at we havent seen any head gasket failures

  • they fixed the head cylinder for the US market probably

  • VillejeanRyder35, according to your profile you're 17 and you're telling me you already graduated as a mechanic? Right...

Also the cylinder head/coolant leaking problem was caused by a bad and early batch in 2003 or so, it has been fixed AGES ago.

And cooling down the turbo is only needed for older cars and when using non-synthetic oil. 10 minutes is WAY overkill anyway.

  • @n00bje yes i was apprentice at 14 so talk about something that you know please .

    ok.

okay tell me why tdi turbos gets broken down at 60 000 kms ? and turbos on dci engines ? why ?

ill tell you why because ppl do not know how use a car ...

useless to reply i wont waste my on you

  • DIESELS ARE MORE EFFICIENT MOTORS !!

  • 2:33 VW does not care what fuel u add in there. After All, It's American diesel fuel quality that decide if diesel fuel vehicle survive in the States or not. SO far, American diesel fuel is not the one that can be called clean diesel like in Europe.

  • I'm just learning about diesel cars, I just did the deal on a TDI Jetta, I should be picking it up next Saturday.

How is the diesel fuel better in Europe? From what little I know, it seems like the Europeans have been dealing with diesel engines for a long time and have a lot of skill at this.

  • if you want a better handling car and better interior you can wait for the audi a3 tdi

which is coming out next year

  • The Audi A3 is a great looking car and it is a contender in this year's LA Times green car of the year award. Last year, the VW Jetta TDI won the award with their new clean diesel 2.0 liter engine.

This year, the TDI powered Audi and the VW Golf TDI are contenders, so I'm happy that two 2.O TDI engine powered cars in the race as like I said earlier, I went with a TDI Jetta today and signed a contract. This is after 25 happy years with Toyota and TMMC, both have been very good to me.

  • I'd rather have a diesel over hybrid...

    less problems for the future....

I don't care about the environment just the mpg ;)

  • amen! plus, replacing the battery for a hybrid can cost up to ten thousand dollars!!

  • @wwjoeyd to hell with al gore. no more gore.

  • @wwjoeyd haha exactly my viewpoint, also the JEtta doesnt make you look gay wen you drive it (like the prius does make you look gay) Also the MPG is about the same, as well as the Jetta had more power and torque.

  • Diesel is good if you drive on the highway mostly. If you drive mostly in stop and go city traffic, a gas hybrid is probably better.

  • They all use very little gas! Pick the one you like the best, and don't hate the rest!City/Hwy/Combined

    Jetta Tdi 2010- 30/42/34

  • They were all tested the same way, not just the TDI. All the cars on that list can get higher ratings if the driver tries to. The point of having these cars, is that you shouldn't have to worry about driving like an old lady to save money on gas. Sure it's fun to see how high you can get the mpg, but it only cost $25 to fill a Prius and my wife can drive 500+ miles. By the way, the Prius has an electric A/C, so we can run it all we want, with no loss of power or mpg. 54mpg over the last 6K miles

  • You're correct, I have a 99 Camry 4cyl with 233,xxx miles and it still gets at least 32 mpg. I'm using synthetic and I commute 3.5 hours one way to work on monday and 3.5 hours home on friday.

If a car company needs a test bed driver, let me know, I put the commuter miles on.

  • In the past, I would drive 50,000 miles a year and I have driven just about every car that is sold in the U.S.

  • Damn, my commute is 12 minutes. I cant imagine 3.5 hours.

  • I commute one way on monday and back home on friday.

I used to commute two hours a day times three day days a week for the same company doing a similar job, so 7 hours a week is only one more hour, but i'm only home on the weekends now.
