I have to say, I loved the Knicks vs Bulls games, between 92-93 especially. But how is this a rivalry?
Rivalry is a competition for the same objective, which means this is not a rivalry. Knicks never won anything during this period and never made it to that objective.
It's same as Jets fans calling the Patriots vs Jets games a rivalry, just because they happened to win a game or two in the past few yrs. Lakers vs Pistons, Lakers vs Celtics, Bulls vs Pistons...those are rivalries.
Look at mjs face in the begining and the end of the interview, you can see the anger when he is taling about the vangundy thing and then he softens up when he talks about his relationship with the other players. realist man ever.
Shit, the Knicks were the Bulls bitch. The only time they beat Chicago was when MJ was retired, and even then it took a bullshit call from Hue Hollins. Fuck the Knicks. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.
my opinion The NBA was great from 1982-2003 because during that time you had so many rivalries Bulls- Pistons Lakers-Celtics Bulls-Knicks Blazers-Sonics Blazers Lakers what i mean is that from 1982-2003 NBA rivalries weren't just east vs west
it was more or less van gunny the knocks was a so so team in the 90's 1 year good as hell the next nearly 500 jordan got nutting beaten NY like he did DETROIT his best RIVALS
thats why at the end Jordan and Lebron will be incomparable not as far as talent goes but the will to stick the situation out in cleveland like jordan did with chicago and win a championship. But on the other hand how many people really thought Lebron was going to win in cleveland.
Fuck new York bunch of punk ass bitches. Got there asses knocked out of the playoffs all the time. Who can forget when jordan waved bye bye to spike lee. Or when pippen dunked on ewings dumbass. Now I'm no Reggie miller fan but if ur a true knicks fan you'll remember the choke.
It behooves me how almost EVERYONE kisses the butt of this arrogant prick. Jordan was a ball hogging bum who only cared about one person, HIMSELF. Maybe someone out there in youtube land will agree with me on this. If this opinion makes me a "hater", well then I guess I am a "hater". And guess what people. He is still the same self centered prick today that he was 20 years ago.
@soyfity You my friend ARE a hater. Why? Because Jordan makes you hate yourself for some reason. I already laughed at you... But I should just pity you.
@Roachross2 Believe me when I tell you bucko, I am not a Jordan fan, and I am very happy with my life. I would match wits with you, but you probably have a 2nd grade education at best, so that would not be fair. Hopefully you keep a lot of chapstick handy while your crusty lips are on MJ's arrogant butt. Pity YOURSELF LOSER.
@Roachross2 Gay references? C'mon son, you gotta come harder than that. And you're still a Jordan butt kissing "stan". Step to me with a better come back next time around. Other wise, don't bother. Peace.
@Roachross2 Ha Ha Ha. You know when I read this recent comment, I was not going to reply. But then I realize that you are probably a failed comedian living in your Aunt Velma's basement. Your comments are starting to make me laugh hysterically. Big teeth Steve Harvey ain't got nothing on you son. Keep the jokes coming. I love a good laugh. Ha Ha Ha Ha.
@Roachross2 Now this comment would be funny as well if only you knew how to put together a proper sentence. It's "you're", not "your", and what the heck is "ghey"? I knew you had a 2nd grade education. You're starting to bore me, real fast. Please quit while you can son.
MJ was just all-around the best player/model and the red Bulls uniform was just perfect on him (not the Wizards jerseys). He could do a simple dunk and it still looks damn impressive. He also knew how to speak and can be respected unlike "ghetto" LeBron who still talks/looks and acts like a kid.
@boamuro: You're damn right with that statement. Wacthing MJ wearing that brilliant red Bulls uniform just leaping in the air without doing anything super-flashy is way better than watching anyone else in the league today trying to attempt ridiculously crazy dunks that more often than naught fail.
@boamuro Actually Jordan had a vocal coach when he was much younger. He used to have a little bit of a country twang in his speech when he was Lebron's age back in 1988. Jordan has been a well-spoken guy for a long time, Lebron just turned 26. Lebron definitely is immature for his age though and does act like a kid. But he definitely doesn't LOOK like a kid, he may be only 26, but looks like he's 33! He has not aged well.
@boamuro I agree with everything you said about MJ because he is the greatest and the smoothest most dominate player to ever lace em up but what is your definiton of "ghetto"?? Lebron didnt have the childhood that MJ had he couldnt live in the suburbs because of his circumstances, he didnt have a stable household like MJ so of course he's going to act different the MJ
@boamuro I was always felt the EXACT same way. Jordan in the red Bulls uniform was just simply something else. I always got a different vibe about the way he played/performed in a red Bulls uniform.
MJ is one of the greatest to ever play the game of basketball on the NBA level but the NBA was here before MJ and it will be here after MJ as well. no disrespect to any of you alls opinions. but thats just how it is.
i personally think what van gundy said was smart. do u ppl think jordan would have not played hard if he hadn't said that please. to me jordan's biggest advantage was the mental edge he had over everyone. all the players wanted to be his friend bcos he was the face of the league and could do no wrong. kobe is not liked by alot of the league so players try their hardest to stick it to him. the knicks and pacers didnt care about him and gave the bulls the most problems
Jeff should be saying that to those players not about MJ. He didn't say that about Shaq or Magic. He push the wrong button. When you play somebody as great as Jordan you wanna play him hard while having respect for him. We are cool before and after but during the game, I DON"T LIKE U
he may have pushed those buttons, but he has to try something. there is a point where u can give your opponent TOO MUCH respect. and at the end of the day, its not like its untrue. Think about it, have you ever seen any dominant team like the bulls that was well liked around the country. the Pats, Yanks, and Lakers were mainly disliked when they were on top. I feel too many of jordan's contemporaries viewed him as god-like(even if it was true), and therefore they lost b4 they even played
Yup, I used to be the biggest NBA fan on this Earth growing up watching MJ, but after he quit, I gradually lost interest in the sport, and now I don't even watch it. The NBA is a fucking joke. The days of MJ were the greatest days the NBA ever saw.
I agree with you! I have lost interest in the NBA since he left and now I can't even remember who won the titles in the 2000 to now I know the celtics won in 08 and the lakers won in 09 that's all I remember LMBO!
I just saw this video, it pretty much explained it. The con man comment was what started it. I'm a Knicks fan, but I don't think it's wise to say things like that about people. It's slander, so I understand how it ticked Jordan off. I think it was very child like of Van Gundy.
It was game 3, NBA playoffs , Eastern Conference 2nd round 1992. Later in that game, MJ went for a dunk and Xavier came and gave MJ a hard foul, across his face... Xavier went down as he literally just bounced off MJ (who many have said was the strongest pound for pound player). Ewing also went down in that same sequence, and you see MJ just getting mean with him (camera angle captured it perfectly).
I have that whole game on dvd.. let me know if you're interested....
that's pretty much a ridiculous piece! Van gundy is not a 1/4 of the man jordan is. He was just pissed from jordans ass-kicking of him. Jordan is the most successful athlete of all-time. Success speaks for itself. If players didn't like him they would not assciaote with him!
''Michael Jordan...ALL over Jeff Van Gundy....SCREAMING AT HIM!!!''
^ that's what happens when someone talks trash about the G.O.A.T.
stupid Van Gundy trying to say that ''his way is to befriend them and soften them up...for some reason league-wise it is important to be liked by him, I don't know why''
I see the same thing being repeated all over again with Lebron James. There is something wrong with you if you aren't cool with him. Look at Atlanta, they were practically asking him for autographs during the last series. It's ok to be like the Wizards and not take his shit, that's all Gundy was saying.
I agree with Gundy. During that time, it was hearsay to even question anything about Jordan. It's like it was your obligation to suck his dick and jiggle his balls. Fuck that. I agreed with it then, and I think he still has a point now.
MJ got trashed by Isaiah Thomas and other veterans when he first came in the league because he was to "flashy".. Then he got trashed by the media saying he couldn't win the big one.. Then he got trashed by idiots like Van Gundy who attacked his character for no reason. What MJ received around the league from players, coaches and the media at this time(97') was the respect that he earned!
Yes and No. Michael is the best player all time but did benefit greatly from calls and treatment made in his favor for years. The combination of marketing by the Bulls and his endorsers and talent have propelled Jordan to a status of near immunity from critique due to popularity. No human being should have that in any sector of life due to humanities imperfections and industrial bias. No one is beyond criticism. If you look at Michael closely he is no saint on and off the court off camera.
Lebron is getting like that now. As great as he played during the eastern conference finals he lost game 1 and game 4 nearly himself due to bad shots and foolish turnvoers. The Cavs had double digit leads in both games and lost them due to James seflishness and breaking team rhythm. Missed 6-8 bad 3s in the 2nd half of both games each that the Cavs should have won. Mike Browns decision making played a factor as well but Lebron was not crititcized for his poor shot selection and turnovers.
Dominated the ball. Often settled for deep shots against the physically lesser Michael Pietrus. Did not use the mid range jumpshot when overplayed. Then the media cover for him being tired despite many experts stating that he is so conditioned. Mike Brown is reseponsible as well but Lebron like he usually does goes gung ho with no consequences unlke other players Only Doug Collins, the telestrator durin those games commented on this. No one else commented on it at all. That is wrong.
Kobe was criticized for taking too many shots during games, which often were needed in the past due to the Lakers subapr team from 05 to 07 and the break downs of the Triangle offense resulting in Kobe needing to bail them out at the end of the clock but Lebron takes alot of shots it is fore the team. That is BS. Seen too many Cleveland games when James does exactly what Kobe does but gets lauded for it and Kobe villified. That is bias and wrong.
@dre4eva Jordan's "character" was always shit. A philandering, degenerate gambler, who cried to the officials, bitched out his teammates, punched his teammate for out playing him in practice, etc.. Also, any coincidence that Jordan "retired" for 18 months, the exact amount of time in the nba, that the statute of limitations is, for betting on your own sport? He was a top 4 all-time player and a human peice of garbage. ESPN fanboys and homers believe the hype, from people with a vested interest.
@grapeerickong You are stating every negative thing that you've ever heard about him in videos and books. That's all you got?? PAHLEEZ! The only reason you know that much about "Jordan's Character" is because he was one of the only few superstars that would consent to all access videos back then. Jordan told you himself that he punched Kerr in his video. You probably wouldnt be bold enough to tell us anything negative about you on this message board! You obviously dont know sh*t about Jordan.
@grapeerickong Yes, because the NBA "suspends" players so they can go on to have hundreds of millions in financial losses due to that suspension.
Fighting with a teammate is something that happens in every team, in every league. That's what competing is all about. Also verbally challenging your teammates is part of what you need to do as a leader. If you can handle it, you become valuable like Steve Kerr and Pippen. And if you can't, you are like Brad Sellers and Dennis Hopson.
@dre4eva And he earned it by being good at defense and assists, in addition to consistently scoring well. Oh and yeah, not being a choker, so that when he got to the finals? he won in the finals.
Its hard to call the Knicks vs. Bulls a rivalry due to the fact it was one sided. Yeah Knicks one against them in 1994, but we all know Mike was playing baseball at the time.
I've converted over a lot of my tapes to digital and had to put the NBC logo overtop of the CTV logo whenever I did see it, or edit out CTV segments via video editing software. At least this is easy to do with the software so if I do watch old games again that were hijacked, well, I've obliterated CTV from any telecasts they did interrupt. I added NBA on NBC promos from non-hijacked telecasts to telecasts that were hijacked by CTV to try and recapture the true sense of a unhijacked NBC game!!!
Bulls vs. Knicks! Greatest rivalry in mordern NBA era. I grew up on this in Ottawa, Canada couldn't wait. No rivalry since can touch them. Marv Albert calling these games was classic- I miss those days.
Watching the NBA on NBC was brutal when CTV hijacked the broadcast and ruined things, including taking out commercials, cutting out NBA on NBC promos, inserting their own useless announcers like Suneel Joshi and Rob Faulds, and sometimes the BDU would clip out the ending of a telecast by inserting another Canadian channel overtop of NBC before the game ended.
This problem continues today as SUN-TV hijacked the ABC game on Sunday and disrupted things big time.
i'ma die hard bulls fan i loved every time mike and the bulls would beat the knicks i hated them in the 90's and it's more like the hammer and nail there is no contest and we all know who the hammer was thanks mike for all those great games
This wasn't a rivalry. It was one sided. The Bulls owned the Knicks. The only year the Knicks beat the Bulls (94), they only won because of one of the worst calls in NBA history (The Phantom Hubert Davis Call). The Bulls dominated that series and took the Knicks to 7 without Jordan. I don't view this as a rivalry. That is a compliment to the Knicks. The Pistons and Bulls were a rivalry. The Celtics and Lakers were a rivalry. The 76ers and Celtics were a rivalry. The 76ers and Lakers also.
i mean the bullls dominated everyone they played pretty much specially in the east soooo are u saying the Bulls didnt have ANY rivals in the eastern conference? (b/c the pistons werent ALWAYS contending and in the playoffs) i think the knicks would be the closest thing there
There's an asterick next to the only Knicks series win, which was because of a bad call. A rivalry is a rivalry when it goes both ways. The Knicks never beat the Bulls with Jordan and shouldn't have without Jordan. You can classify the Bulls and Magic in the mid 90's as more of a rivalry because both sides won a series. The Spurs and Lakers are a rivalry. The Kings and Lakers should have been, but the refs cheated the Kings. The Knicks just weren't good enough.
Good call remembering that foul that they called on pippen...I don't remember who was shooting the three but they gave the knicks 3 free throws when there was no foul....that was game 6 tho, so the bulls would have still needed to win game 7...but that call was bs and i'll never forget that play either
Bull shit, and all the other calls agaist Knicks? You are talking about one call. All the players and teams knows that Jordan was the favorite player for the referes, damn the bulls
ROFL at etherodromos's comments. You think the ref's were always helping MJ? How about watch the Bulls vs Pistons Eastern conference finals in the late 80's? and tell me the ref's preferred him where he was physically beat up every game. If you don't like MJ just say so, don't be saying he got his 6 championships because the refs favored him. There were actually quite a few refs that didn't like him at all because they had to pay attention to him more due to his insane plays.
haha van gundy's always run his mouth a little too much. he subscribes to the pat riley school of thought that as a coach, you can influence the fortunes of your team through the media. come on, really? you can't play mind games with jordan, it doesn't work like that.
hell yea man, but that was also the glory days of our team, 93-99... Obviously i wasnt around for 70 and 73. What do you think about this year? Whens the last time we scored 132? Bernard King Era? I live in LA now, and i might have to get league pass if this continues.

1998 Finals: Bulls-Jazz game 6 at the buzzer Jordan shoves Utah's Russell out of the way with his left arm, Russell falls down and Bulls are world champs!
and many many other incidents, like then when MJ tapped a made shot from underneath the net...
1. Jordan fakes Russel on every occasion. Watch it in normal motion, like it occurred in. The "shove" was a hand placement, Russel was on his way down.
Please, you're honestly telling me that Jordan was so strong he could toss a 230lb man accross the lane with his left hand? Pull your head out of your ass. Watch the play before, Jordan blows past Russel to the right for a lay-up. Russell was obviously thinking about it the next time down. Jordan starts right, stops on a dime, steadies himself with his left hand on Russell's hip, collects himself, and bang, 6 rings.
he didn't toss him bitch, Russell was on the move and Jordan shoved him IN THE SAME DIRECTION (not opposite) and made him loose his balance. If they had done it to MJ at a crucial point like that they would have called 60 flagrants and 43 technicals
Again, if you pulled your infantile little head out of your ass and watched the clip, you would notice that Jordan is mostly steadying himself. Watch the camera angle from behind the backboard he was shooting at. Russell overplayed him because he was scared Jordan was going to blow by him on the right like he did on the previous play.
You're just speculated based on a bias you've assumed exists even though your only evidence is your idiot's understanding of the game and a dunk contest.

1995 playoffs: Bulls-Hornets game 4 at the buzzer Hawkins goes for a layup and Jordan pushes him in the waist with 2 outstreched arms. The refs do not call anything and Bulls advance to the next round instead of going back to Charlotte for game 5. In the press conf. after the game, Pippen was laughing and said the the 3 referees are blind men.
Haha, so you think that one play made a difference? Notice that the Bulls swept that series. IF ONLY THE HORNETS HAD ONE MORE CHANCE...er, I mean FOUR MORE CHANCES.

1988 dunk contest: NBA robs Dominique Wilkins in Chicago and criminally gives the dunk championship to Jordan
1992 season: the official reg. season MVP is David Robinson, according to the standard methematical formula but they name Jordan MVP. The case goes to the court of Law and the decision is: 'Robinson is the MVP but now it's too late to alter it'!!!!
that year Jordan didn't jump from the line but 2 shoes inside. Wilkins did better dunks in that contest and his final was off the glass and he grabbed it far away and he folded his body with his head above the rim and dunked from a distance. He got 48 for a perfection like that and then Jordan jumped from inside the line (while the previous year he was on the line) and they gave him a 50 and he won by one.
Be realists in here and mention the facts like men and not like Jordan's girlfriends
Again, so what? What's your point. The dunk contest was in Chicago, obviously they probably fixed it for the fans. There you go, you've uncovered a sinister reality in the NBA: All-star games are more theatre than competition. You notice how often the home-team star wins the MVP. Hell, they even gave it to Malone AND Stockton in Utah. The other players know this and let the home players dominate the ball. This is not news unless your seven years old or stupid. I think I know which you are.
Thou art a bitch and thou havest a crush on MJ that's why you don't admit clearly that throughout ALL years the refs and the NBA are unfair in favor of him and against all the teams (like the Knicks) and players (like Nique in 88 or Russell in 98 for example) that are a threat to him and the Bulls. Watch the 1996 Finals and peep the calls by the refs and even as Bulls' fan you will feel disgust.
Answer clearly right here: Have the refs helped Jordan illegally through all years yes or no?????
You are clearly just one of the many bitter fans that had the misfortune of watching MJ decimate his team of choice. You say the refs were biased, but again, watch the Pistons and Knicks series throughout the years and watch as the refs allow them to BRUTALIZE MJ and his teammates. No other NBA player has had to run such a gauntlet since. And then you use vague nonsense about 1996, a retarded slam-dunk issue, and the Russell play, which just shows your ignorance of the game.
When Jordan was being brutalized, his opponents were suffering hard fouls by the Bulls, too. I mean during that years, playoffs were hard and everyone was paying with pain a drive or a penetration.
So as a conclusion you support this: That Jordan was mistreated by the refs and still he won 6 rings. I see. With this horseshit opinion, everybody laughs loud except all ye Jordan groupies. Go suck his honk and as soon as you're done run to the bedroom to check if your mother is being fucked or not.
Haha, years later an a bitter, semi-retarded internet punk is trying to pretend like a few questionable calls are the difference between 6 championships and...what, exactly?
I didn't say Jordan was "mistreated," I merely noted that there was no bias in his favor. Go watch clips of those series and there are plenty of times when he gets beatdown and no foul is called. I can't even imagine what sort of nonsense runs through your fevered mind.
I told you, watch the 1996 Knicks-Bulls series, games 1,2 and 4 (not so scandalous as 1 and 2). Watch it with composure and not as Jordan lover and see the ref brutalization. The only game from that series the Bulls deserved to win was game 5 when they won cleanly.
Haha, and watch game 3 as the refs desperately try to keep NY in the series so they don't get swept. The NBA benifits from popular series going many games, so why would they set it up so Jordan played 4 quick, non-competitive games against the country's biggest media market?
You're full of shit and your conspiracy theories don't even make sense. You are an incoherent child.
In game 3 the Knicks fucked the Bulls cleanly and in all positions, sideways, doggystyle, on top, everything. No refs. No condoms. No saliva. Just sandpaper. Jordan's arse was on fire because of Ewing's and Starks' and Oakley's and Mason's poles.
What you do in here is to characterize or label me with easy labels like "incoherent child" or "internet punk" because you cannot speak with arguments.
Right, that's why it went to overtime, because the Knicks were so dominant. Do you even know what game we're talking about here? Jordan brought them back from an 8pt deficit in the closing minutes, and they would have won that game as easily as the others if the refs hadn't been doing their best to squeeze another game out of that series. The problem was simply that Jordan and his team was VASTLY superior, so it almost failed. Nice rewrite of history, tard.
I have the game on tape. The Knicks were dominant all game long and obviously, MJ was the only one scoring since he was finishing 90% of the Bulls' possessions, MJ made a comeback at the end of regulation (8 points in 90 seconds) and the game went to OT.
In OT, MJ had the chance to tie it again but Oakley stepped out to the 3-point line, dove and just stole the ball off MJ's dirty hands! MJ just lost the possession by a big power forward!
Generally the Knicks played better in games 1 thru 4
Haha, nothing like a little ignorant fandom. I'm sure the Bulls felt terrible about being outplayed but winning the series in an easy 5 with the only NY victory coming in overtime. You have got to be kidding. Are you a performance artist?
I've watched the game a bunch of times, also. There were some suspect calls that went against the Bulls in that fourth quarter to let NY take the lead. I remember a couple of dubious traveling violations, at least one on Pippen, for example.
Dunk contests are jokes anyway. It's theatre, who cares?
As for the MVP: really? You think there's anyway David Robinson EVER should have been MVP ahead of Jordan? Who gives a rat's ass about the voting--someone else said it, Malone and Barkely took 2 from MJ, and look what he did to them in the Finals both times.
you answer like a fag. OK dunk contests do not matter to you. Then MVP. The subjective method gives Robinson as MVP. The court decision gives Robinson as MVP. And you say who cares. And you say Jordan would win it anyway. OK, give Robinson the MVP and then let Jordan win it. And what about the other arguments I mentioned?
I ask what time it is and you answer "i'm fine, thanks".
Where the fuck are you from? Is everybody in your area so intelligent?
"Answer like a fag." That says everything about you I need to know.
I don't even know what you're point is, but you bring up a bunch of irrelevent bullshit a pretend like it matters. Who cares? The MVP is voted on by the media. Pardon me if I don't take the results seriously. Beginning with Jordan's first title NO ONE should have ever won the MVP until he called it quits. He had a stranglehold on the league and no one was worthy to lick his shoes.
I never realized Jeff Van Gundy doesn't know how to accept defeat. People should know when thay're conquered. As much as a good coach he is, that's just low class behavior. When the 92 Knicks, Barkley's Suns, and the Utah Jazz went up againts the Bulls in the Finals I didn't get the impression that any of them are friends of Jordan at all. Don't take it personally when you loose, it's just a game looser.
Man that was 100 % correct what jordan said from 5:56 to 6:23.. In that time, I love when when he said "I want people to view me as a person, but yet, you know when we step on the basketball court, I want them to challenge me as a basketball player!" Man he's really smart seriously. His view of the game tops ANY PLAYER in the history of the NBA.
KNICKS HAVE 5,000 Rivalry LAKERS IN THE 70'S DETROIT IN THE 80'S THEY PLAYED BULLS, PACERS, AND HEATS IN THE 90'S. THEY NEED TO PLAY BASKETBALL BUT, GOT TO LOVE IT.
OMG Thank you! I remember this day like it was yesterday! I taped this segement and the game that night!...I remember this day so much. The Knicks won this game, and Patrick Ewing was AMAZING! He hit a baseline jumper to conclude matters...he also had an awesome dunk at the conclusion of the first half when he fell to the floor! You have to post the rest of this game!!..It was a classic. This was also the same day that the Notorious BIG was murdered. 3/9/97
Anyone notice Anthony Mason pushing Jordan??Man I use to love Bulls/Knicks Marv Albert said "Michael Jordan" with power.lol

MJ was just all-around the best player/model and the red Bulls uniform was just perfect on him (not the Wizards jerseys). He could do a simple dunk and it still looks damn impressive. He also knew how to speak and can be respected unlike "ghetto" LeBron who still talks/looks and acts like a kid.
boamuro 1 year ago 10
@boamuro: You're damn right with that statement. Wacthing MJ wearing that brilliant red Bulls uniform just leaping in the air without doing anything super-flashy is way better than watching anyone else in the league today trying to attempt ridiculously crazy dunks that more often than naught fail.
FreshWesss 1 year ago 6
@boamuro Actually Jordan had a vocal coach when he was much younger. He used to have a little bit of a country twang in his speech when he was Lebron's age back in 1988. Jordan has been a well-spoken guy for a long time, Lebron just turned 26. Lebron definitely is immature for his age though and does act like a kid. But he definitely doesn't LOOK like a kid, he may be only 26, but looks like he's 33! He has not aged well.
illinifan512 1 year ago
@boamuro I agree with everything you said about MJ because he is the greatest and the smoothest most dominate player to ever lace em up but what is your definiton of "ghetto"?? Lebron didnt have the childhood that MJ had he couldnt live in the suburbs because of his circumstances, he didnt have a stable household like MJ so of course he's going to act different the MJ

i personally think what van gundy said was smart. do u ppl think jordan would have not played hard if he hadn't said that please. to me jordan's biggest advantage was the mental edge he had over everyone. all the players wanted to be his friend bcos he was the face of the league and could do no wrong. kobe is not liked by alot of the league so players try their hardest to stick it to him. the knicks and pacers didnt care about him and gave the bulls the most problems
coffee468 2 years ago 4
Jeff should be saying that to those players not about MJ. He didn't say that about Shaq or Magic. He push the wrong button. When you play somebody as great as Jordan you wanna play him hard while having respect for him. We are cool before and after but during the game, I DON"T LIKE U
mistanderson 2 years ago
he may have pushed those buttons, but he has to try something. there is a point where u can give your opponent TOO MUCH respect. and at the end of the day, its not like its untrue. Think about it, have you ever seen any dominant team like the bulls that was well liked around the country. the Pats, Yanks, and Lakers were mainly disliked when they were on top. I feel too many of jordan's contemporaries viewed him as god-like(even if it was true), and therefore they lost b4 they even played
coffee468 2 years ago 2
Yup, I used to be the biggest NBA fan on this Earth growing up watching MJ, but after he quit, I gradually lost interest in the sport, and now I don't even watch it. The NBA is a fucking joke. The days of MJ were the greatest days the NBA ever saw.

It all started back on Jan 1997 when Van Gundy called Jordan a con man. This video that I uploaded explains it best
watch?v=lDBkgwZqtCs
j23mvp 2 years ago
I just saw this video, it pretty much explained it. The con man comment was what started it. I'm a Knicks fan, but I don't think it's wise to say things like that about people. It's slander, so I understand how it ticked Jordan off. I think it was very child like of Van Gundy.
j23mvp 2 years ago
what game was that with Michael Jordan and Xavier Mcdaniel??
TheFlex21 2 years ago
Game 7 in 1992 EC Semifinals.
twigknight20 2 years ago
@TheFlex21

I see the same thing being repeated all over again with Lebron James. There is something wrong with you if you aren't cool with him. Look at Atlanta, they were practically asking him for autographs during the last series. It's ok to be like the Wizards and not take his shit, that's all Gundy was saying.
alleyezonme052686 2 years ago
I agree with Gundy. During that time, it was hearsay to even question anything about Jordan. It's like it was your obligation to suck his dick and jiggle his balls. Fuck that. I agreed with it then, and I think he still has a point now.

R U crazy or just plain stupid???
MJ got trashed by Isaiah Thomas and other veterans when he first came in the league because he was to "flashy".. Then he got trashed by the media saying he couldn't win the big one.. Then he got trashed by idiots like Van Gundy who attacked his character for no reason. What MJ received around the league from players, coaches and the media at this time(97') was the respect that he earned!
dre4eva 2 years ago 19
If you look at Michael closely he is no saint on and off the court off camera.
chitownmo 2 years ago
Lebron is getting like that now. As great as he played during the eastern conference finals he lost game 1 and game 4 nearly himself due to bad shots and foolish turnvoers. The Cavs had double digit leads in both games and lost them due to James seflishness and breaking team rhythm. Missed 6-8 bad 3s in the 2nd half of both games each that the Cavs should have won. Mike Browns decision making played a factor as well but Lebron was not crititcized for his poor shot selection and turnovers.
chitownmo 2 years ago
Dominated the ball. Often settled for deep shots against the physically lesser Michael Pietrus. Did not use the mid range jumpshot when overplayed. Then the media cover for him being tired despite many experts stating that he is so conditioned. Mike Brown is reseponsible as well but Lebron like he usually does goes gung ho with no consequences unlke other players Only Doug Collins, the telestrator durin those games commented on this. No one else commented on it at all. That is wrong.
chitownmo 2 years ago
Kobe was criticized for taking too many shots during games, which often were needed in the past due to the Lakers subapr team from 05 to 07 and the break downs of the Triangle offense resulting in Kobe needing to bail them out at the end of the clock but Lebron takes alot of shots it is fore the team. That is BS. Seen too many Cleveland games when James does exactly what Kobe does but gets lauded for it and Kobe villified. That is bias and wrong.

You obviously dont know sh*t about Jordan.
dre4eva 10 months ago
@grapeerickong Yes, because the NBA "suspends" players so they can go on to have hundreds of millions in financial losses due to that suspension.
Fighting with a teammate is something that happens in every team, in every league. That's what competing is all about. Also verbally challenging your teammates is part of what you need to do as a leader. If you can handle it, you become valuable like Steve Kerr and Pippen. And if you can't, you are like Brad Sellers and Dennis Hopson.

FreshWesss 2 years ago
Bulls vs. Knicks! Greatest rivalry in mordern NBA era. I grew up on this in Ottawa, Canada couldn't wait. No rivalry since can touch them. Marv Albert calling these games was classic- I miss those days.
patoutou25 2 years ago 4
Watching the NBA on NBC was brutal when CTV hijacked the broadcast and ruined things, including taking out commercials, cutting out NBA on NBC promos, inserting their own useless announcers like Suneel Joshi and Rob Faulds, and sometimes the BDU would clip out the ending of a telecast by inserting another Canadian channel overtop of NBC before the game ended.
This problem continues today as SUN-TV hijacked the ABC game on Sunday and disrupted things big time.

The 76ers and Lakers also.
scoresby33 2 years ago 5
i mean the bullls dominated everyone they played pretty much specially in the east soooo are u saying the Bulls didnt have ANY rivals in the eastern conference? (b/c the pistons werent ALWAYS contending and in the playoffs) i think the knicks would be the closest thing there
shmayy 2 years ago
There's an asterick next to the only Knicks series win, which was because of a bad call. A rivalry is a rivalry when it goes both ways. The Knicks never beat the Bulls with Jordan and shouldn't have without Jordan. You can classify the Bulls and Magic in the mid 90's as more of a rivalry because both sides won a series. The Spurs and Lakers are a rivalry. The Kings and Lakers should have been, but the refs cheated the Kings. The Knicks just weren't good enough.
scoresby33 2 years ago
Good call remembering that foul that they called on pippen...I don't remember who was shooting the three but they gave the knicks 3 free throws when there was no foul....that was game 6 tho, so the bulls would have still needed to win game 7...but that call was bs and i'll never forget that play either

1998 Finals: Bulls-Jazz game 6 at the buzzer Jordan shoves Utah's Russell out of the way with his left arm, Russell falls down and Bulls are world champs!
and many many other incidents, like then when MJ tapped a made shot from underneath the net...
etherodromos 3 years ago
1. Jordan fakes Russel on every occasion. Watch it in normal motion, like it occurred in. The "shove" was a hand placement, Russel was on his way down.
koneerok 3 years ago
Please, you're honestly telling me that Jordan was so strong he could toss a 230lb man accross the lane with his left hand? Pull your head out of your ass. Watch the play before, Jordan blows past Russel to the right for a lay-up. Russell was obviously thinking about it the next time down. Jordan starts right, stops on a dime, steadies himself with his left hand on Russell's hip, collects himself, and bang, 6 rings.
TBlake34 3 years ago
he didn't toss him bitch, Russell was on the move and Jordan shoved him IN THE SAME DIRECTION (not opposite) and made him loose his balance. If they had done it to MJ at a crucial point like that they would have called 60 flagrants and 43 technicals
etherodromos 3 years ago
Again, if you pulled your infantile little head out of your ass and watched the clip, you would notice that Jordan is mostly steadying himself. Watch the camera angle from behind the backboard he was shooting at. Russell overplayed him because he was scared Jordan was going to blow by him on the right like he did on the previous play.
You're just speculated based on a bias you've assumed exists even though your only evidence is your idiot's understanding of the game and a dunk contest.

Nique couldn't jump from the free throw line.
Jordan was robbed when Barkley got it and when Malone got it, so go figure
koneerok 3 years ago
that year Jordan didn't jump from the line but 2 shoes inside.
Be realists in here and mention the facts like men and not like Jordan's girlfriends
etherodromos 3 years ago
Again, so what? What's your point. The dunk contest was in Chicago, obviously they probably fixed it for the fans. There you go, you've uncovered a sinister reality in the NBA: All-star games are more theatre than competition. You notice how often the home-team star wins the MVP. Hell, they even gave it to Malone AND Stockton in Utah. The other players know this and let the home players dominate the ball. This is not news unless your seven years old or stupid. I think I know which you are.
TBlake34 3 years ago
Thou art a bitch and thou havest a crush on MJ that's why you don't admit clearly that throughout ALL years the refs and the NBA are unfair in favor of him and against all the teams (like the Knicks) and players (like Nique in 88 or Russell in 98 for example) that are a threat to him and the Bulls. Watch the 1996 Finals and peep the calls by the refs and even as Bulls' fan you will feel disgust.
Answer clearly right here: Have the refs helped Jordan illegally through all years yes or no?????
etherodromos 3 years ago
"Thou art...?"
TBlake34 3 years ago
When Jordan was being brutalized, his opponents were suffering hard fouls by the Bulls, too. I mean during that years, playoffs were hard and everyone was paying with pain a drive or a penetration.
So as a conclusion you support this: That Jordan was mistreated by the refs and still he won 6 rings. I see. With this horseshit opinion, everybody laughs loud except all ye Jordan groupies. Go suck his honk and as soon as you're done run to the bedroom to check if your mother is being fucked or not.
etherodromos 3 years ago
Haha, years later an a bitter, semi-retarded internet punk is trying to pretend like a few questionable calls are the difference between 6 championships and...what, exactly?
I didn't say Jordan was "mistreated," I merely noted that there was no bias in his favor. Go watch clips of those series and there are plenty of times when he gets beatdown and no foul is called. I can't even imagine what sort of nonsense runs through your fevered mind.
TBlake34 3 years ago
lol. Nicely put.
thopkin12000 3 years ago
I told you, watch the 1996 Knicks-Bulls series, games 1,2 and 4 (not so scandalous as 1 and 2). Watch it with composure and not as Jordan lover and see the ref brutalization. The only game from that series the Bulls deserved to win was game 5 when they won cleanly.
etherodromos 3 years ago
Haha, and watch game 3 as the refs desperately try to keep NY in the series so they don't get swept. The NBA benifits from popular series going many games, so why would they set it up so Jordan played 4 quick, non-competitive games against the country's biggest media market?
You're full of shit and your conspiracy theories don't even make sense. You are an incoherent child.
TBlake34 3 years ago

TBlake34 3 years ago
you answer like a fag.

And dunk contests are always jokes.

Don't take it personally when you loose, it's just a game looser.

this is exactly why the Bulls should not hire Van Gundy...he's a good coach just not welcome here.
