You would expect Hasbro or Wizards Of The Coast to run Magic the Gathering, but you're wrong. Shops like StarCityGames have ruined MTG by making the game too costly for kids and young adults to enter and play without spending $700-$1000 just to play standard FNM.

For $400 you can buy an xbox360, 1 yr subscription to xbox live and 5-8 games

Or a PS3 and 3-4 games

those shops are giving kickbacks to the designers and destroying the Hasbro company at same time

Game did finally come out. It wasnt too bad, the gameplay itself was a lot of fun, but as someone else posted before me, it uses a "booster pack" system. You have to pay $3 for a digital booster pack to improve your deck in order to really build up anything impressive.

There are only 5 single player matches that you can do (you only get rewards the first time you do them) and one daily game to build up cards and gold without having to pay. Free to play is a term used lightly with this game.

The game itself is actually pretty fun. The problem is, they put a booster system in place. This means that in order to play the game you have to contunually pump money into it. Otherwise I would've bought it actually.

My prediction is that since they are removing the client of MTGO come Masters Edition 4 later on this game is pivotal to WOTC's strategy of cross platform inter-connectivity. If I am understand Mark Rosewater's article correctly, where he talks about the iPad, I would hope they have the same line of thinking I do. If MTGO will be browser based, it would follow that Tactics should and could connect to it. Making MTGO way better thanks to support of this game...

Where do you buy your cards? I get three booster packs for $10 at the card shop where I live. I can buy a booster box for 90. Plus, some people really like the art on the cards and like to collect them. They also have good resell value to other collectors on the internet.

This game trailer looks Cheesy. I'm not sure how long they've been working on this game, & if they've been working on it for a long time then it might be good. But if its a very short period of time, they might as well not bother with it, because this game is probably going to flop. Trying to create an RPG or MMORPG type game would take a lot of time to make it decent. The website doesn't look like something I would be excited over. I already paid enough money to play MTGO already

The one thing I would want for this is proper support. DOTP only got one patch after several months of the game being out. Also for the others, MTGO is coming out for mac as a web browser based thing. Check out the new User Interface they're planning.

With that being said, you got too campare card too card, Why is Lotus selling for a couple of grand? Well maybe for starters, its close too 20 years old. Giving only around 10000 where printed with that age will make any cards value shoot through the roof. Secondly, magic (as much as I love it) has had it's dark age, look at the Urza block, or Mirrodin, where design was poor (arguable for Urza Block), and sales where low.

Why is all of Wizads marketing aimed at kids, The major market is teenagers and adults. Adults can't admit to playing a kids card game and expect to be taken seriosuly and teenages are trying to be older than they are and to earn the respect of their peers, no one would want to admit to playing this game if the impression people get of magic is the one they give from adverts like these :(

I find it funny that you needed to mention Yugioh in your argument, about how magic is the superior game. Gameplay wise magic is better, and player support wise, magic is also better. However popularity wise and sales wise, Yugioh kills MTG. It's even listed in the guiness book of world records as the best selling card ever. Also the most expensive card in MTG is about 50 dollars, while the most expensive card in yugioh is about 200 dollars.

There's a reason Black Lotus and friends are banned in legacy and restricted in Vintage.

And why Tarmogoyf and Baneslapyer Angel break $50 (granted, the latter is also because of, surprise!, it's "Mythic" rarity).

Given balance, the game would be have higher variety, more viable decks, and lower prices.

In Magic, Baneslayer Angel is in M10, fetch lands and new Wrath of God are in Zendikar. They have sold out every printing of these sets. Future Sight cost a lot because of Tarmogoyf, Morningtide because of Bitterblossom.

I mentioned the sales of Yugioh in general because the guy said that Yugioh was dead (no I do not agree with him) In general I think that Magic is a much better game. I play a lot of TCG's and in everyone there's always a large group a people that feel they need to bash Yugioh in order to make thier own game look better. Price and sales aren't necessarily a sign of health. In my opinion, more packs cracked for fewer players overall, and very high demand for several powerful cards is a sign of degeneration in Yu-Gi-Oh, not strength.

You said Magic is better design-wise. I agree. However, I don't know why you have to mention it kills Magic in sales. It can be irrelevant to the health of the game.

The ad was kinda cheesy. I'm almost worried that the game is basically gonna be like duels of the planeswalkers but with more animations and creatures coming to life and stuff like in the Yu-Gi-Oh show. But this ad did introduce the game and now people are talking and blogging about. Creating this type of buzz is important. I'm interested to see what this will be, but frankly I don't think it will be about the card game. Probably more like an RPG base on the magic universe. We'll see
