The storyline of the original game Max Payne 1 was even more complex and interesting than this. I think Nicole Horne is mentioned once, but we never see her as the villain behind the drug Valkyr. No mention of the nordic myth Valhalla, no Alfred Wooden, no Mona Sax, no nothing. Even if there was a Mona Sax character it doesn't really matter because her part must have been so pointless or twisted that I forgot about her.
I remember when I went to toilet at some story moment in cinema and after I came back my friend told me I didnt loose anything. This movie was boring, I agree. Story plot was only a pretext and even shooting scenes werent special. Almost no bullettime moments (I remember just one and also nothing special), but bullettimes were a fucking essence of this game!

I'd have to agree that the game is a lot better. The reason why this movie wasn't the best is because of the story. The acting was great. Mark Wahlberg did a great job. The problem was that the story was almost completely different. B.B. was not supposed to be the main antagonist. And there should have been more bullet time. And the whole movie for some reason just seemed a lot lighter than the game, figuratively speaking. This may be because the game took place at night.
the snow effects were bad but at times it was the only thing that gave up the max payne [game] feeling, afterall the game took part in the winter of a century. Movie is a joke - check games cutscenes they are amazing ;)

Honestly, you can't make a review of this movie unless you've played the game, and by played the game i mean you actually paid attention to the story and didn't just run around and shoot everything. Personaly i thought the movie was good because it focused on the story and not just on the action. Yes the movie could have used some more action scenes, but all and all i still thought it was pretty good. It played to the story of the game instead of just being a shootum up like most movies today.
The film as a whole is a joke that reeks of 6 weeks of action-cut-next scene. But as a geek I find it nourishes with attention to detail even with low production values. I own the blu-ray and I won't apologies because now and again it gives me my shamefull 'hit'.
None of the characters are inspiring, the script is laughable, but it transports me for the duration of the film into the world of Max Payne. That's all I can ask for with politics.

You could at least have tried the game a little because without it, your movie-review misses its main goal: telling the target consumer (fans of the game) whether or not the film is worth being watched. this movie had no twist. they showed the answers you had to seek at the edge of your seat, unlike the game. most of the money was spent on the casts (celebs) and nothing went towards the storyline. acting was terrible at best as it was funny seeing people get so serious for no reason. game was 100% better with action pack just in the comic cinemas itself, had more mystery leaving the player wantign to go further in. thanks for fuckin up a good game

It does a great job of telling the same (true) story but from a different angel so that we learn new things about the story of MP while the action remains somewhat unpredictable.

Ok, the film's definately NOT true to the game. Sure, some aspects of it are, the snow, the drugs, etc. But not the plot. Yes Payne spends the game trying to avenge his family, but that leads him into a big conspiracy revolving around the drug the thugs who whacked his wife were high on. Payne gets framed for offing his contact in the DEA after he's gone undercover to try to find the source of the drug. The whole Natasha subplot in the movie is complete BS. It has nothing to do with either game.

None of the characters are inspiring, the script is laughable, but it transports me for the duration of the film into the world of Max Payne. That's all I can ask for with politics.

You could at least have tried the game a little because without it, your movie-review misses its main goal: telling the target consumer (fans of the game) whether or not the film is worth being watched. The good news is: The result of your review should be about the same xD The game was brilliant, the movie had only few things to do with it... and the makers failed even there. the max payne movie amzingly true to the game, COMPARED to the rest of the videogame movies.. take the hitman movie as an example,, just took the core element of the games and threw it out the window.. when taking the rest of the videogame movies and comparing them.. max payne is prolly the 1 the best of them, it captures the mood of the games amazingly well.. not that im saying it is good.. rather its the least horrible...

i played both max payne games. and the movie was aweful. it based on the story of the first game but still in the game the presentation was way better. i dont understand why the people who make the movies that are based on video games arent taking the writers of the game to write the movie. because in most of the movies on games. the presentation in the movie is not good compare to the presentation in the video game. they should have learned their lesson by now. they are making a movie for the game fans, and they chose a game with a very good story line n atmosphere. So why dont they bring the game writers into it, and ask them to write the story-line and give the movie its atmosphere + choose actors? Maybe they did do this? I would love to see the making of the moive documentary. The main thing is atmosphere, and they should use the classic music obviously. Havent seen the movie, but i see the comments!

If you wanted to see a movie EXACTLY LIKE THE GAME... Then go play the game. It would be a waste for them to make a movie exactly like the game. And Max Payne 1 Dimensional? If you would have stayed after the Credits, You would have seen that Max Payne and Mona Sax's relationship is starting to develop and that they set themselves up for a sequel. this movie had no twist. they showed the answers you had to seek at the edge of your seat, unlike the game. most of the money was spent on the casts (celebs) and nothing went towards the storyline. acting was terrible at best as it was funny seeing people get so serious for no reason. game was 100% better with action pack just in the comic cinemas itself, had more mystery leaving the player wantign to go further in. thanks for fuckin up a good game

I played both games and the thing I liked most about them was the narration and wit that Max had. His Jack Webb like monologue kept my interest throughout the levels. Without it, the movie just seems under developed.

This movie had more of a Dirty Harry feel than the John Woo feel of the games, and I can actually respect that. And since you say anyone can make a movie better than this, do it! this movie followed the games story almost exactly, only thing is that this movie lacked the one thing that made the game enjoyable..ACTION...the game is him killin so many ppl to find answers, and i didnt see that til the end...but it followed the story which most game movies dont, so i wont complain...street fighter had action and strayed away from the original story...i rather see the movie show the story of the games...doom was fucked up too..action but a story not from the game.

what was so bad about silent hill? i loved how they made the beginning just like the first game from goin down the alley waking up in the store, goin back to the car and finding the MAP...then at the end mixed the stories for SH1 and 2 to make the final boss from 2 be cheryl, everything was familiar, they didnt follow exactly but they set it up where if they wanted to make a sequel the dad from the movie could play out the story of SH2 lookin for his wife in SH. what didnt u like?

I'm glad to see that most people agree that the game is way better than the movie. Where as the movie is a good one to past the time when you are bored and have nothing to do, it disgraces the game.
I keep seeing everyone reference the demonic stuff, that was in a part of the game where max finally confronts lupino who is all about the dark arts.
If you played the game you can clearly see its better, if not then you were suckered into a disappointment.

It does a great job of telling the same (true) story but from a different angel so that we learn new things about the story of MP while the action remains somewhat unpredictable.
Ya Max Payne could prolly have used a lil more build up and the mystery as well but as alot of the people going to see this film have played the game. Tt's kinda neat for us that they don't waste our time.
Besides the movie was exciting and the action scenes were badass...

Ok, the film's definately NOT true to the game. Sure, some aspects of it are, the snow, the drugs, etc. But not the plot. Yes Payne spends the game trying to avenge his family, but that leads him into a big conspiracy revolving around the drug the thugs who whacked his wife were high on. Payne gets framed for offing his contact in the DEA after he's gone undercover to try to find the source of the drug. The whole Natasha subplot in the movie is complete BS. It has nothing to do with either game.

The entire first game happens in the winter, so There is snow EVERYWHERE.
Bullet-Time is a MASSIVE part of the first game, i haven't played Fall Of Max Payne, so i can't comment on that
