In this case, the original call of a lateral stood because the call was so close, that there was no way Phil Luckkett could say that there is pure evidence to there being a foward pass. This is a legal lateral no question about it.....Bills fans should get over it. Wychek is throwing the football ACROSS his body (not over the top) so the football leaves past the 25yrd line. And Dyson is straddling the 25 yrd line catches the ball right in the stomach. Even if you did win you guys were never gonna get to the super bowl let alone win it...not with the 2 journeymen qb's.

As a Bills fan my thinking is, given the whole 'not where the feet are but where the ball is' rule, I don't see how anyone can say that it was definitely a forward or backward pass. Either way, when it's the playoffs and the opposing team's season is seconds away from ending you have to be ready for a potential trick play and we were not. The Titans won fair and square.

Something funny about this I remember is falling asleep with ESPN on. I awoke the next day and the very first thing my eyes focused on was the bottom line on ESPN. It read "Bills fire special teams coach John Doe" I can't remember his name, but I'll bet long time Bills fans do.

That was like a Princeton backdoor cut in basketball. Love how they drew the defense all the way over to one side of the field, then caught them with the lateral. Brilliant play. ESPN found this play was done in 1982 to win a college game as well.

@cuterscooter1 When the ball was thrown, it was in front of the line, the ball traveled backwards so when Dyson caught it it was behind the line. Therefore, not a forward pass.

@austincardona No, the play was barely legal, really caught Buffalo's special teams by surprise. Man, ever since this game, the Buffalo Bills franchise has vanished; kind of what happened with the pro basketball Washiongton Bullets after the 1970's ended (and then poof!...they became Wizards).

The ball was laterelled right along the 25 yard line and you can CLEARLY see on the replay that the ball is going backwards...it wasn't going backwards a LOT, but clearly went backwards hense a legal lateral. @gluserty Thing is, the lateral wasn't forward or bacvkward; simply even to the line of scrimmage. One Ryan Fitzpatrick was installed at starting QB,there is no doubt the Bills became more entertaining and became a threat. It's just so weird for me because when I was younger, the Bills were one of the best teams going. Buffalo is a great sports town; the fans could use a contender.

I was 10 when i saw this...and even before whycheck caught it...i was like "hes going to throw it back the other way" and he did and then they scored..... i was a 10 yr old boy and saw that coming...how didnt the bills..and NFL pro team?? they can say all they want it was forward and blame it on the refs...but at the end of the day..IT WAS SHITTY kick off Coverage and DEEP DOWN every bills fan know it... not a fan of either team BUT this was a Great play

This is a legal lateral no question about it.....Bills fans should get over it. Wychek is throwing the football ACROSS his body (not over the top) so the football leaves past the 25yrd line. And Dyson is straddling the 25 yrd line catches the ball right in the stomach. Even if you did win you guys were never gonna get to the super bowl let alone win it...not with the 2 journeymen qb's.

As a Bills fan my thinking is, given the whole 'not where the feet are but where the ball is' rule, I don't see how anyone can say that it was definitely a forward or backward pass. Either way, when it's the playoffs and the opposing team's season is seconds away from ending you have to be ready for a potential trick play and we were not. The Titans won fair and square.

Whether or not it was a lateral is completely irrelevant. I don't care what the rules are... when you let a guy run past your entire coverage unit and you can't lay a hand on him... you deserve to lose. It's the end of the game, do or die for the Titans, loser goes home. The Bills should have been prepared for a trick. They didn't deserve to have the play reviewed, much less expect the call to be overturned. Absolutely pathetic. PS I'm from Buffalo.

Something funny about this I remember is falling asleep with ESPN on. I awoke the next day and the very first thing my eyes focused on was the bottom line on ESPN. It read "Bills fire special teams coach John Doe" I can't remember his name, but I'll bet long time Bills fans do.

That was like a Princeton backdoor cut in basketball. Love how they drew the defense all the way over to one side of the field, then caught them with the lateral. Brilliant play. ESPN found this play was done in 1982 to win a college game as well.
