"Working Man / The Price Of Coal" has now been released on iTunes with all proceeds going to the families of the Gleision Miners' Appeal Fund. Please search iTunes for 'The Price Of Coal'
This is a song that makes big welsh men stand up and cry with pride and means a lot in my family because of my uncles from up pontypool way, and because of my Grampa big Ted Lear from cwmbran."God bless you all"
Thank you for singing this beautiful song! Rita MacNeil was so powerful in her creation of this song, and also sings it most beautifully in Canada from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
This song reminds me so much of my dad God rest his soul who passed 14 years ago just gone on the 4th this month. He deserves as much a medal as the soldiers who has passed. I miss you so much dad You are and always were my hero xxxxxxxxx
i remember last year, i went to wales...to the valleys with my paerents, it was nyc weather so we had the lid down on the convertable and we had a CD player, we had this on CD (wales forever, paul child) so we put the volume u and belted it out, we went past a pub, nd al the guys driking 'skullattak' (Brains) were all raising their glasses and cheering us on, people were waving to us and it was soo funy.i am part welsh...and wales is by far the best country ever'!!!!!!
i went down the pit in 1976 at the age of 16 years and my dad dint want me to, it was the best 16 years of my working life, im a health care worker now but coal dust still and always will run through my veins, long live scargill.
@SwingingHips ey up bud soz. i just seen your message, i worked at nostell pit from The age of 16 for 10 years then Mrs Thatcher got her way and shut it, so i went to the big K some great geordies worked their but it wasnt my cup ov tea. i then went in to health care in prisons. i love my job but my heart is still in the pit. i would not swap the great full year ov 1984 for nawt. I DINT SCAB will be on my head stone, ROB.
This was played at my grandfathers funeral last year, after this song had finished there wasnt a dry eye, He always told great stories from the pit. RIP Bamp
wow. what a good job. I am speaking as a geologist(u of t 87) have been trapped twice and I always thought about this song when I was with darkness all around.
Not a bad job, but you have to see Rita Mac Neil (she wrote this song) in person sing this along with the Men of the Deeps who are actual coal miners who worked the mines of Cape Breton. They wear their mining gear and turn their hard hat lights on as they sing. It gives you goose bumps.
Pray for me lost deep beneath, with only the company of your memory, I drift to sleep, Pray for me lost as shadows creep, I hold you close in faith and belief, That one day soon I shall see the light of love, of you that lit my darkness from above, Hold me close now in prayer and heart, for we are here and never apart. Pray for me and not let go for you sustain me now lost below.. pray for me.. pray for me...
i am a gentleman that is never speechless except when we qualified for the soul olympics but i am speechless my prays are with the family as well as to the workers may they rest in peace may god bless them as well as the family
this song is so meaningful very touchy i love nova scotia i have adopted it as my province i live in ontario do not mean to be silly but i feel a nova scotian i love canada greatest country in the world
