You can put a bright light behind the scratch off and read the card to see if it is a winner before you buy it. You must have a friend who works behind the counter to team up with.

@mattcain18 Ahhh you only feel that way because you haven't won anything big, Once you do, you start to buy a few more and so on but if you win big and spend say 10 percent of the winnings on more scratchies, obviously not going overboard ie the guy in the vid, then what's the harm in it? honestly if you drink I can guarantee that you spend more on alcohol then they do on scratchies considering they are both "practise" it regularly enough.

Im a skydiver and I have 2 decent bikes, last year I was in Japan for 10 days, I think Iam doing quite well.
But yes lottery is a money consuming habit, but the thrill is so cool, and maybe one day all my financial issues will vanish.

@tronist - its not lottery companies, at least not here in the US. The lottery is government run gambling, and most of the states that have the lottery ban other forms of gambling giving them a monopoly on it even though the lottery is probably the worst bet someone can make. The lottery is a tax on the poor and uneducated.

The lotto is pretty fun and it's easy to see why it's addicting. I play the lotto every week, 5 dollars 5 numbers. If it goes over 100mil then I might go 10 a week. You don't really expect to win, but imagining winning all that money is the fun part.

This guy is smart, based on how much he wins occasionally, he should be able to cover *SOME of his lottery spending. Could be half even or more. I had £500 saved up which i spent on lottery tickets, i have won only on 5 of those tickets totalling £3500 and never ever spending more then £2 a week for a lotto ticket :D

To be honest with you $1000 a month isn't that much, considering he had won 12k earlier, that's about a year's worth of more lottery tickers IF he decides to use it on that. You can try to steal it from the counter and see if you win. Just make sure that the cashier doesn't see you. And bend over and grab as much as you can and put them in your pocket immediately. If the cashier then come and ask what you was doing, tell him that you're looking for a place and need direction.

I only spend about $2 per lottery game, which cost me about $4 dollars per week. A set of quick picks and then my own numbers. I spend what I can afford and it only takes one set of numbers to win. I think it is not gambling when limit your self on what you can afford. But if you spend more than you can afford, you have more chances of loosing too much money and it is gambling.

Well, people with addictive personalities are always showcased. Same with alcoholism. Just because alcohol is addictive, it doesn't mean Everyone is addicted. That's why most people can play/drink with moderation, because it makes them feel good. If they had to stop, they could, it's just they'd probably be a little bitchy about taking a good thing away from them in their eyes. Sooner or later, however, they would get over it. Addictive people don't. It's all in the brain, physically.

A Toronto-area father and son who worked in a Canadian lottery outlet have been charged with stealing a winning ticket in 2003.
Jun-Chul Chung, 60, and Kenneth Chung, 28, face charges that include money laundering, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. Kenneth's sister, Kathleen Chung, 29, who allegedly falsely claimed to be the buyer of the winning ticket, has also been charged.

Well, it's his money. If that's what he wants to do with it, that's his business. I just hope he's not neglecting his daily obligations, such as taking care of his family, paying bills, and things of that nature. Personally, this is a problem I don't have, as I don't have that kind of money to spend. But if I did have it, who knows. I might be be doing the same thing. That would not be my intention, which is why one has to careful. Compulsive gambling starts with small bets.
