@backlippy777 No, it is actually really easy. I would recommend rollers over trainers though. They will make you a much more efficient cyclist! Plus they are cooler.
@bustedbojangles I understand the "efficiency" argument to be a moot point. Trainers allow you to lay down watts and hit your maximum power however you want (better for sprinting and climbing). Rollers will "train" your muscles to TT-style, so you will be smooth and accelerate slower. In my opinion it is up to the rider. Do you want to sprint and climb? Or, do you want to to TT? Or Both? (< --- ;) ).
@pcfxer I don't use my rollers to get a solid workout in. I'll go to the climbs nearby to get my real workouts. If no hills are close, then a trainer is the next best thing I suppose. Or a strong headwind! I use rollers to add basic spinning to my week, improve efficiency, and tune bike handling. If you are use to rollers, you will ride straight as a whistle!
@bustedbojangles Unfortunately I'm snowed in so no climbs for me. I'm dying to get out again.
That's a good point with the rollers; perhaps they are better for finesse than the trainers (obviously :p.). With the trainer I can tuck my head down and focus on wrecking just my legs which is what I need (beginner)....I think.
People should just build their own "trainers" in fact, they could build one that will generate power. Maybe they could charge their phone battery.

is it hard to ride on a trainer since it doesn't move left or right at all? It seems really stiff.
