The NT advocates against polygyny because there is no reference to it? Okay, I'll play that game. There is also no reference that Janey was at that party Friday afternoon. No one can vouch for her. Does that mean that she wasn't there? Possibly, but the evidence is not conlcusive. She might have been there and no one took notice or she might not have. Unless you find evidence that she was indeed elsewhere and not just not at the party, you can't charge her of sin. The same case here.
You know, I honestly don't understand why a lot of Christians are against polygyny, at from a legal perspective. You're telling me that a GOD who abhorred polygyny so much would choose a man who was married to four women, of whom two were blood sisters I might add, as the father of the Twelve Tribes, HIS chosen people? Sorry, I just find that hard to sallow. On top of that, it wasn't even Jacobs idea or want to marry Leah or the handmaidens. I see the hand of GOD in this and not Jacob's sin.
Shawn forgot to mention that Jacob also had more than one wife. Adam and Eve weren't married? God commanded them to commit fornication? He commanded them to multiply and replenish the earth (sex). Shawn was right God didn't speak out against having more than one wife as he spoke against all forms of sexual sin, gotta ask why that would be. The only reason polygamy causes problems is because of mans fallen state, the lust of the flesh and pride of the heart. I'm not for polygamy.
So Mormons are saying that Jesus (the literal son) was the result of the Heavenly Father (in physical form) having sex with his (pre-existent and now born and grown) daughter Mary .... any comments???
Morgs use Abraham as example for there "Co-hab' religion. Abe Left Ur wandered in a strange land. He listened to his wife and thumped Hagar. There is the first clue:: Listening to your wife and thumping the help isn't smart.Hagar was a concubine and there is no marriage ceremony, etc. Further, where was Abe when he did this? Using mans law and customs, anywhere, doesn't make it right. God gave Abe circumcision as a reminder not to go astray. It wasn't a reward. And We Christians are Free of it
@RPM11111 Davids sin was not polygamy it was ADULTRY he was with another mans wife then had him killed. Although I do not believe a responsible beliver should practice it. I do see how people can be mislead into it and justify it based on the bible.
David decided to have Uriah killed so that he could hide his adultery and have Bathsheba as is wife.
GOD must only have tolerated David's many wives based on Deut 17:17.
Based on letters to Timothy and Titus I can't see how any professing Christian could be mislead other than it appealed to their adulterous/polygamous tendencies in the first instance.
@RPM11111 That verse is only applicable to the king....but it is interesting that it does say that he should not take many or multiple wives (hebrew word - Yarbeh=Multiply)
@flacola its ok to critique mormons for their polygamy doctrines and historical practice (because they are unbiblical) they say were from God, but we must make sure that we are objective and truthful to the word of God (the Bible).

Joseph didn't believe in slavery of black people. A racist, YES. Josephs slavery was focused at women.

Doesn't Deuteronomy 14:15-20 speak against polygamy?
Also David's 'polygamist' tendancies led to the death of Uriah and the son that David and Bathsheba had.
