This exercise isn't even for bodybuilding, it's for powerlifting. The hang clean isn't meant to "build huge muscles" it's a full-body exercise that builds fast twitch muscle fibers for explosion. You CANNOT do this weight in a slow controlled manner if you're doing it properly.

I would caution viewers of this video to find a strength coach with experience to show you the Olympic lifts and correct your form. Practice with a PVC pipe until you get the technique correct. There are too many variables and risk of "The last thing I remember." moments. Olympic lifts produce the most benefits for athletes. if done incorrectly, with too much weight, they can produce the most catastrophic and life changing injuries.

hang clean FAIL:
-weight should always be over center of your foot
-elbows should remain straight until the pull so that your hips generate power
-bar should come in contact much lower on the thigh, and only briefly
-feet should leave the ground
-no pulling with the arms, only the traps should shrug up
-rack position should be much higher, bar should be trapped on the shoulders and arms should be close to horizontal
-hang clean is not for bodybuilding anyway, just have people do upright rows

I would caution viewers of this video to find a strength coach with experience to show you the Olympic lifts and correct your form. Practice with a PVC pipe until you get the technique correct. There are too many variables and risk of "The last thing I remember." moments. Olympic lifts produce the most benefits for athletes. if done incorrectly, with too much weight, they can produce the most catastrophic and life changing injuries.

Yes this is a great exercise for your shoulders but this is more for legs and explosive power. YuppltzCorey is actually right your form is not good at all. when you finish the clean your grip is too tight. search for the video hang clean form/ tutorial for the correct form

Actually this is a pretty good exercise for the shoulder&traps,u just have to be careful how u do it,I'm in training to be a pro wrestler&our trainer has us doing this exercise quite often to do the body slam.

ok this guy is doing it all wrong a hang clean is you grab the bar you never set it on your thighs... then you keep a flat back bend down and explode into the lift. YOUR ELBOWS SHOULD BE OUT in front of you not at your side...

Oh yeah and one more thing- After you've cleaned (or lifted) the bar, you should be able to rest it (the bar) on both of your (front) shoulders. This is why flexibility is CRUCIAL in this exercise! STRETCH, STRETCH, STRECH!!!

COMPLETELY WORNG!!! To start, when doing hanging cleans the bar should be slightly above your knees (just touching), not in your crotch area.Cleans simulate explosion, hence,you should be using more hips to prevent back and shoulder injury.Lastly,your elbows should be pointing forward with your humerus horizontal to the ground (not perpendicular).By PROPERLY executing the rountine you effectively utIlize your larger muscle groups (burn more calories)and develop explosive power and brute strengh
