In HeartGold and SoulSilver there's a little device in Celadon city that you get from your friend that allows you to switch the upgraded gameplay music to the old version music, its kinda cool.
The Dragon's Den music in GSC is the worst music of any Pokemon game ever, including spinoffs. I would even prefer the music of Lavanille (sorry, don't know its English name, as I play Pokemon only in French, since I'm from Europe) to this, as it actually has some kind of melody. No wonder why people get headaches from it.
Lavanville? That'd be Lavender Town. Why do I know? No idea. (Gotta love how Violet City becomes Mauville, and then in English Hoenn Mauville shows up. Oops.)
But yeah, even that's better. Though Vermilion in HGSS is pretty bad too, sounds like a friggin' lullaby.
When I first played G/S/C I was still extremely ignorant in regard to Pokemon (my team at that point- Meganium, Piloswine, Sudowoodo, Ampharos... yeah, don't ask) and so Claire actually did put up a very good fight. In between helpings of Dragonbreath, Surf and Ice Beam, I was flogged quite badly. I know it took at least three attempts and maybe a metric ton of luck before Meganium outlasted Kingdra and she was done. Imagine how angry I was when the bitch denied me a badge.
I remember taking down Kingdra with my Typhlosion, using strength (yeah, I teached it strength at the time xD ). Hard fight it was...hard fight...

Yeah, I think that Clair is your only challenging Johto Gym Leader thus far, ever since Whitney. Congrats on your final Gym Battle in Johto. ^_^
