If David Gregory is representative of the best that American journalism has to offer, it's no wonder that the press has turned into lapdogs for the Republican Party.
David, this president rushed us into an unjustified war and you kissed his ass every step of the way. You were flattered that our good ol' boy president acted like your friend. Gee, he even had a nickname for you. Well Stretch, over 4000 Americans and maybe over 1 million Iraqis are dead because scum like you didn't do your jobs. How dare you try to pretend as if it didn't happen. Just because you don't dance with "MC Rove" any more doesn't take it all back. Their blood is on your hands, David.
Gregory is totally reationalizing here. Just watch the report on PBS by Bill Moyers. It shows just how much the media dropped the ball. It also showed how scripted and timid the White House press corp has been -- guess they just wanted to keep their pampered positions.
This is complete crap. I marched in the streets with tens of thousands in my city and 2 million around the world to protest this war before it happened and the press hardly covered it at all, giving it lipservice at best. If the press asked the right questions as Gregory is saying, why not show us the clips? I sure as hell dont remember the MSM as being anything more than cheerleaders for this war. Since then countless people have lost their loved ones. David Gregory, your hands are bloody.
The media has condemned the leadership, the troops, the surge, the fact that the troops have brought the "civil war" to an end pretty much destroyed Al Queda in Iraq and in the eyes of many would be terrorists in the world. One wonders how a journalist can look him/herself in the mirror in the morning and say they are telling the truth.
Iraq must be shaped like jigsaw puzzle piece because every time I turn on the news, I hear "we're turning a corner, victory is near!" We've captured Bahgdad! We found Saddam! The Iraqi's have a Constitution! AQ #2 is dead! Mosul is secure! Purple Fingers! Mosul is secure again! Basra is so boring the Brits are going home! The surge is working!
As we now know, a compliant media and Rumsfeld's "Message Force Multipliers" have committed treason.
LOL, I can understand where you are coming from, and again much has to do with the media and thier portrayal of what is happening in Iraq. It has always been about the mistakes made, what the armchair general said, how strong the insugents were, haw bad the troops behaved, how many died today, and the total for the week, the month, the year. How the Iraqi government was doing nothing, the contractor scandles, the reports from professors and think groups over how many innocent have been killed.
The chronology of what has happened is much easier to see. The invasion, the Sunni uprising, the insugents/terrorists, and Sadr. Then the surge, the reversal of the sunnis, the defeat of the insurgents/terrorists and now Sadr. The Iraq military has taken over many of the areas previously secured by the US and a rolling up of splinter groups of leftovers and diehards is beginning to take place. This is no longer the end of the beginning, its the beggining of the end of the war.
For the news media this seems to be a catastrophy, as they have portrayed it as a lost cause from the beginning. Many politicians did the same (after they voted for the war). So the Iraqi war will never be won by us in the eyes of the media it would negate thier entire telling of it. As someone told me last nite, the US troops have been portrayed as brutal soldiers torturing innocent iraqi, fighting an unjust war, while the good Chinese soldier is helping his poor country. US bad, Chinese good.
David "It's Not Our Role" Gregory.
That's who heads our media.

We can't let David Gregory get away with this rewrite of history. They did not push, they did not challenge. Someone ask Helen Thomas if he's right.
