If I'm not mistaken, that's a LTD 2 or a Fairmont wagon. They share the same platform as the 79-93 Mustangs, so a lot of the parts are the same. Wagons have much better weight transfer than a sedan or a hatchback.

Plenty of younger guys, especially these days, get them off used lots and don't really know enough about them to significantly modify them. At best, they put on new rims and a "sound system", maybe a new exhaust if they can even be bothered with anything resembling performance. I see what you mean about them being complete cheap mod cars - which they are - but there are plenty of people out there who run them as they are.
