@5150VanAlien Yeah, I use the pedal for several types of music. It will work with everything. I suppose for really heavy, you might want to go with a Boss DD-3 or similar digital delay. I just love analog delays though!
The AD900 and 999 sound very similar. I couldn't tell them apart. I think the 999 is a tab bit darker but they both sound great. The 999 uses a regular 9V adapter, I have a Voodoo Power Pedal, so this was a factor for me choosing it over the 900. The carbon copy sounds pretty good too but I never had the chance to compare it in my set up? Pedals are ridiculously overpriced, even these...Ive build fuzz and od pedals but these and chorus pedals are way too hard to build.
Looking back at this recording, I was going direct, and there was no reverb. This made for a very dry, sterile sound. I did that to get a sense of what the pedal sounded like completely on it's own. Had I used my Twin Reverb, and miked it, this review would have sounded way different. This is an awesome pedal. You might not give up on it just yet!
This is a nice pedal but the price that Maxon is asking for the new AD-999 reissue is just out of hand. At most it's a simple no frills analog delay, there are many other delays that do the same thing for much less. Good demo though bro thanks again. How old is this one?
Yeah, I'm not quite sure how the AD-999 compares to the AD-900 sound-wise. All I know is that I just love this pedal. It has such an amazing - warm sound.
I'm really not sure how old it is. I have had it for about five years and I actually bought it off Ebay from someone in Japan. It was used when I bought it.
I have the ibanez DE7 delay-echo pedal. It's really a good digital delay pedal. But I don't know the difference in sounds between digital and analog. Is it that digital is more crisp/harsh sounding than analog?
Yeah. You pretty much nailed the difference. I have a Boss DD-3 also and I have compared them back to back. There is a warmth and richness that is very obvious with the analog Maxon. The digital delay is really great and I do like it a lot, but it is what it is. The digital delay sounds....digital! It's more sterile sounding. Like I said, I still love the digital delay and it's great for certain things, but once you get an analog delay, you'll know what all the fuzz is about! :)
DD is not really sterile, a dd plays the sound back almost exactly as it is, its a near perfect copy. An Analogue d uses the only technolgy they had at the time, they wanted to get a perfect copy but it wasn't posible, when DD came out people were pleased to now have a perfect copy, BUT the sound created by the Analogue technology had a sound which was an effect in itself not just a delay and the watery sound was a by product of not being to achieve a perfect copy, we have now rediscovered it.
I totally agree. I do love my Boss DD-3, but it can't touch the incredible sound of the Maxon Analog Delay. It's in a tottaly different league! But, I do hear what StefanPriceUK is saying. He is right about the digital delay being an exact copy and analog delay coloring the sound. That coloring is what makes the analog delay so much more righteous!
Well, the AD-900 is no longer made. You can still get a used on on Ebay for around $250. or so. The AD-900 is available at Musicians Friend for $340. There's nothing like Analog Delay!!!
No... it won't self-oscillate. It reapeats for a very long time, but it always tapers off eventually. I know that there is another
AD-900 with a different chip in it that might? I'm really not sure. I still REALLY love this delay. Definitely the best I have ever played or heard. I'd love to have another!
This video is light on "review" and heavy on "demo."

@DSilvergun I suppose you are right. I'll have to change it to say demo.

@DSilvergun It's a good demo nonetheless :)

Thanks for the demo bro...can you use this pedal for hard rock and modern metal or is it more for vintage/retro/cleaner music.

I think it sounds pretty damn good...doesn't seem to add any volume boost whatsoever...next in my list! how much does it cost?

Aside from tape delay, the AD-900 the the very best delay I've ever used. Sounds gorgeous in the studio. Youtube really doesn't do it justice at all.

i only trust my ear, and my ear tells me analog delays are better sounding, ive played with many brands of different digital and analog delays.
