  • No one, I repeat NO ONE, does pomp and ceremony like we British do and I am proud to be an Englishman!

  • @kylebarlow93 that is a minor proportion of the whole country you imbecile even in enfield there are majority English people. go into hertfordshire or most other places apart from big cities and its still 99% English. all cities attract immigrants.

  • @3210Mit More like one of the greatest composers who has ever lived.

  • I love the Queen and the monarchy but this should be the official English national anthem. The Scots, Welsh and Irish all have theirs. Keep God save the Queen for the British national anthem. A national anthem such as this may help bring back some much needed national spirit and pride back before it's too late!

  • Makes me proud to be British - just a shame that its not a land of hope or glory anymore

  • Lol, at 1:50. It someone graduating? I honestly never knew this song was British or even had lyrics, I just think of high school graduation when I hear it.

  • @cmurphy2826 This song is to the United Kingdom as hockey is to Canada.

  • What's that noise at whirring sound at 1:52? This should be played when a Brit wins an F1 race to make the moment last longer :D

  • @TheStig3566 One of those long baloons you let go and they fly around a room, they are an adult toy during conferences...fun when drunk...... I wonder who the drunk idiot was that let it go.. lolololol

  • Actually, it's something of a tradition to release them during Land of Hope and Glory.

  • @TheStig3566 That's the air being let out of balloon; it's something of a tradition to let the air out of a balloon when Land of Hope and Glory is played.

  • IF EVER UNDER FIRE BRITISH SOLDIERS SHOULD SING THIS TO BOOST MORALE THERE IS NO GREATER POWER THAN THIS SONG AND BRITISH MORALE!!!

  • @JackSamuelMusic Just like Apocolypse Now!! awesome!

  • Man i love bbc proms and I can't belive i missed this one ;( but thanks for uploading it this is a FANTASTIC peice of music XD

  • When you start saying or acting like your the best nation in the world like that's when you gain enemies. The english are modest people, it isn't that we aren't patriotic people we just don't feel the need to boast our achievements and such to the whole world unless we our defending ourselves. They don't call us the lions for nothing.

  • Gay composer?

  • Filled my heart with joy after all that has happened in our wonderful country. Let's fight back Britain we won't take this off these idiots! Reclaim our streets once and for all

!!!! UNITED WE STAND... DIVIDED WE FALL

  • Breathtaking! Such a huge orchestra (since Holst's the Planets was part of their repertoire that evening) - Makes my shine shiver. The organ that becomes more noticeable towards the very end also adds a magnificent touch!

  • the british have 3 awesome patriotic songs (Rule Britannia, Land of Hope and Glory, Jerusalem), but no, their national anthem is the dreadful God Save The Queen. Go figure.

  • That was a rather tame crowd. The '07 performance was more exuberant.

  • Magic... sheer magic.

  • So proud to be English

  • If this does not want to make you stand up and throw your arms wide open and sing out loud...you are not human!!!

  • This should SO be our National Anthem!

I can't describe the pride I feel every time I listen to this!!!

  • OMG this blows that lame American version right out of the fucking WATER! I wish we played this one at graduations—there wouldn't be quite so much god-damned repetition, and the band wouldn't fall into that blechy hypnotic stupor. Hope and Glory! Yea!

  • you know. i felt that all patriotisum was lost in our union, being from Noethern Irland, we fell that it's the last place left of British patriotisum. but seeing all these flags, and scottish flags and welsh together for our nation. i must say. im breth taken. but if scotland broke away, the magin of the UK will be lost. and we will lose to the powers evil.

  • Ahhhhhhhhhh Last Night of the Proms....is there any better performance from the public...yes the public!!!! Everywhere I have conducted, every Proms concert I have directed...there is none like the true British one!!!

  • Long live Britain !

  • How come us Americans can't be so prideful as other cultures in music?

  • @Violinkid05 your allowed to be proud of your nationalitiy, over here in england patriotism gets confused with racial bigotry.

  • Rupert Jones thanks for posting this on the internet. We in Australia love the Proms. It would be great if the BBC had a live Australian audience from the Opera House to join the Last Night. Anyway the Proms represents the best of British culture and thanks again

  • Well...it's been 300 or more years since my family came over, but our Yankee blood and mother tongue are both still English.

  • The ones who disliked this are clearly jealous.

  • I just love Sir Edward.

  • Great conducting very vibrant as befits the occasion I guess thanks for this

  • Was there in 2008, this song is the highlight. Just simply stunning.

  • I notice that you didn't post this year Rupert - i hope everything is alright with you.

  • this is the old europe we loooooooove sooo much !

  • @tommyderthomas old europe? you mean Great Britain...

  • @tommyderthomas Old Europe? lol dont think so some how!!!!

  • Brings a tear to my eye everytime.

  • Judging by all the flags of other European nations swaying I would call this a true European anthem!!

This is what Europe is all about.

  • @thedoc241000 If you point out the flags that aren't UK origin I'll let it go... This is British whether you like it or not.. We have the Welsh Flag, ST.Davids Flag, George Cross, saint andrew's cross, the Lions, the Union Jack and probably hundreds more

  • love it

  • I love it!!!

  • this should be our national anthem!!!!

  • Land of Hope and Glory,

    Mother of the free,

    How shall we extole thee,

    Who are born of thee,

    Wider and still wider,

    Shall thy bounds be set,

    God who made the mighty,

    Make thee mightier yet!!,

    God who made thee mighty,

    Make thee mightier yet!

  • THANK YOU GREAT VIDEO

  • What a formidable nation we were!!! And we still are!! God Save the Queen!!

  • Grandios, Ich bekomm immer eine Gänsehaut.

  • Come on England!!

  • wow, thats the way to do it britannia

  • Words don't do justice just how fantastic and patriotic this is. And it's as English as tea and crumpets.

Land of hope and Glory, Mother of the free.

How shall we extol thee, who are born of thee.

Wider still, and wider, shall thy bounds be set.

God who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet.

God who made thee might, make thee mightier yet.

  • @tonester09 Hey! you said "English", It's British! Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland FTW! :P

  • Comment removed

  • @LolFishFail It's not British, it's English. Elgar was English born and bred. The sweaty socks and sheep lovers have their own pieces of music, this is ours.

  • @tonester09 Land of Hope and Glory is British.

  • Thanks for the re-upload RuperJones do you know why the sound went wrong in the first place & have you ever had it happen to you before or is it just one of those technical gliches that happen from time to time

  • First time it's happened musicmad1982 and I'm hoping it's the last ;)

  • i doubt this will ever happen in the USA but i want it to

  • It would be very nice to see something like this in the US maybe an interaction between the two...hmm now ther is a thought...

  • @adserg No thanks. This is something we do alone.

  • @adserg a bad thought :P

  • @Eirinn967 @thrawnsbro

Yeah after some thought folks, your probably right..... consider that foolish thought retracted :) A pleasent evening to you.... I am now of to punish myself very badly..

  • @ryantortallini Our country is nowhere near cool enough or interested enough to do so in my opinion.

  • @ryantortallini Fourth of July celebrations.

  • @ryantortallini Fourth of July celebrations, depending on your location.

  • @reserveporto Yeah, but I wish our 4th celebrations felt more organic (like this) and less slick and produced than they do.

  • @ryantortallini This is as English as our tea and crumpets but unfortunatly our beautiful Country isn't English anymore. If you ever come to England take a drive through Hackney, Enfield, Edmonton, Wood Green. That's what people call English these days.. lol

  • very very good!!!!! congratulations and l wait for more!!!!

  • is fabulus

    is amazing

    is very very big.!!
