  • thank you. this gave me a more accurate look at what this looks like for my project

  • I'm glad it helped. The world has such interesting cultures. It is good to be able to share knowledge of them in any way.

  • is it alive? T[]T

    me fear.

  • This is amazing. I saw this in my Art class at school today. I can't believe it's from 2002.

  • I know that this is probably going to come off as being insensitive, but it sounds like the puppet is busting out into "banraku-rap" style at 1:47

  • @Sarahchu83 I kinda thought the same thing too

  • should have a black background, but awesome as well though

  • What play is this? :)

  • @khnmsunshmara

It's "Meiboku Sendai Hagi" and the lady in red is Masaoka who has just watched her little son Senmatsu die. Due to complicated circumstances she couldn't even show her feelings then, and only now when she is alone, she can give way to her grief.

  • Awesome. More, more, more.

  • im reading a book called master puppeteer... now i got the chance to see how a puppet show looks like.

  • Alienpandaprincess@axium403

That's a good book. It's one of my favorites. ^_^

  • It really looks like the puppet is alive when one of those hooded dudes handed her a white pamphlet ^^ XD

  • This Bunraku is cool! The napkin from her kimono and the closing of her eyes!

  • can someone translate the lyrics, feel utter

  • youll have to get someone japanese thats into bunraku to translate that. they have subtitle screens on the sides of these puppet shows (live) because the speech is so oldskool.

  • Is this Love Suicides at Sonezaki?

  • could you give the details of this footage: when where and name of the gidayu singer/recitant, (s)he sounds very good..

  • I don't know the singer's name but I believe that this was recorded in 2002 in Miyajima as part of a circumnavigation cruise around Japan.

  • I had no idea. So articulate. And I so lack, at the moment, the vocabulary to praise it. Must work this out.
