It was probably the final 100m of his 200 race, he was only an average starter but his top end speed was awesome

Its not his top end speed. His top end speed was quite good, but the real reason why he actually got that record was his speed endurance. He could maintain his speed while the rest couldn't.

the cool part is when johnson set his world 200 meter record...all 3 of the medal winners ran times faster then the olympic record!...Heck Fredricks( the silver medalist ran 19.68, just outside of the old world record) <=)

Championship records are still recorded even if they are legal or not so It could be wind aided and still recorded as the championship record. A World Record must be legal no matter what.

I'll tell ya, spirits mean everything as well as attitude. Time sure as hell changed since then. You had everybody running at their best because of how rich the competitve spirit was at that time when the world championships were held every four years, right before an Olympic year

There's no need to be offensive KKKK1213, I'm not US american and I'm not a Johnson supporter. I just watch athletics at the Olympics and World championships, and what Johnson did in '96 was so damn impressive to me. But a new hero is born (Bolt) and I'm happy to see that kind of performances again.
