  • very cool thx

  • I also have a friend who plays the violin very well. He already taught me the basics. :) I fell in love with music two years ago and I really wanted to join our junior band but we don't have enough money to buy an instrument. Now, my dreams are coming true. My mom bought me a violin 4 days ago. I think that your videos can help me a lot. :) Thank you! :)

  • Sir, what is the brand of your violin? See, I'm going to start my violin lessons tomorrow and I'm watching some of your videos. I find it really effective! :) I will watch all of these, I swear. It can really help me a lot. :)

  • @professorV Hey, looks like You're doing a very effective tutorial. :)

As this is a Bow Tutorial Video, I wanted to ask for some advice.

I did some home exercise today and had troubles with my bow.

As I was playing, I often had an extremely high sound besides the regular ones.

Could it be possible that a bow hair is going to fly apart? It seems that one hair isn't as stretched as the others and has some curves.

  • Thank you, it was very clear.

  • haha my teacher does the same thing ive only just begun with the bow and playing but she tells me to spread my fingers pretty wide and ive always seen it close in books and stuff and i have a problem of stiffness i guess that makes sense now, thx!!

  • Hey Prof V,

Thanks for the tutorials they are great, ive just started playing however im getting more and more frustrated everyday because of little things such as

    - the shoulder muscle on my right side gets tired quickly is this normal??

    - my left hand which is holding the violin, my thumb gets sore after playing for like 1 minute, like the muscle in between my thumb and index finger, it means i put it down more often and dont feel like picking it up again

    I DONT WANT TO QUIT!

    Thanks

    Eoin

  • @EwanMcGreggor This is likely all very normal! since you have just started playing it is very likely that you have never used those muscles before in that manner. Because the shoulder muscle and hand muscles have not been used in the way a violin requires they do tire rather quickly at first. The best thing to do is to keep practicing form everyday to strengthen these muscles. Another possibility is try and relax - loosen yourself and let it all sit naturally - dont force anything

  • thank you for the vid

  • I am about to audition for college this week and I have NEVER been taught how to hold a bow properly, therefore, I would like to thank you for making these videos, I know I should know all of this by now, but I came into my orchestra class later in the year so another student taught me the basics. I have been used to way I have held my instrument and bow for 7 years so it will be very difficult to change it, but it cannot be avoided any longer if I want to get better. Thanks again!

  • @whitegirlgotaDONK SAME! I've reached a stage after 7 years and I'm not really improving very quickly now, my teacher just made me practice pieces until they sounded good, without ever giving me such detailed lessons on fundamentals like bowhold etc. :D Anyways, I think I'll stop having lessons and use some of these videos sometimes ;)

  • @tomgray100 Or you could change a teacher

  • @Wishrachi

    lessons are so expensive :/

  • i cant wait to get my first violin in next week i will be looking to your videos for guidance and inspiration.

  • Thank you so much for posting this video. I noticed you also have one for the curved pinky on the left hand. However, the problem that you are addressing for the left hand, happens with my right hand, my pinky locks into a straight line and I can't get it to straighten no matter how I hold the bow. Can you give me some pointers, please? Thank you

  • All the time when I play, my thumb finger touch the hair. Is this good ?

  • I've been watching this baasic video like 10 times and still can't learn to hold the bow properly... Something that's not clear -clear- is where exactly in the thumb you apply the pressure to the wood (either in the pencil or in the bow) I'd like to see you marking with a whiteboard marker the exact point where you (I assume) developed your callus, very much like your video on the finger contact points on the fingerboard. Awesome classes!

  • Actually, the bow hold is EXTREMELY important to violin playing and it is extremely tricky to get right. It must be approached with the utmost caution and patience or the player will have years of difficulty. While he does not do everything as I teach it, he presents a very good method for developing a bow hold. Finding those spots for the fingers is greatly helped by the various techniques he mentions, and one actually spends years developing a good bow hold in a student.

  • still, its just gripping the bow... I dont see why one needs to practice or make 3 videos solely related to the topic o_o just show the proper position then explain a bit on where which finger goes and whoosh. Bow grip :P im not hating, im just saying in my opinion its simpler than it should be. +_+

  • @xKJx25 Why don't you try explaining it to all of us through a video. I'm still struggling with it.

  • @alobosk mhmm well, sorry to you then =\

Which part are you having trouble at? you could just pause his video where u can see an exact clear image of how he holds it and copy it instead...

but srsly tell me, where are u having trouble at?

  • @xKJx25 I don't get the exact contact point on the thumb. Yesterday it seems I got the creases on the other fingers and I feel more relaxed and in control of the bow but I feel I'm cutting now with my nail into the thumb rest. It wasn't clear for me if I have to oppose the thumb completely to my other fingers or I can keep a somewhat 45 degree angle (more relaxed and natural).

  • @alobosk thumb huh... you know there's another video of this with a female instructor =\ she's pretty good aswell, just letting you know

but the thumb doesn't necessarily have to be pressed upward (with the nail). as he said its only when ur starting out. try flattening ur thumb letting its flesh hold the bow up =\

  • I like how he said "I don't do that" and "I might do that" the tone is just humorous to me XD his voice is so comforting :D perfect teacher xD

  • If you need the free violin lessons with a teacher, write me a message.

  • You're execution in teaching is perfect.

  • Mr. Ehle, what is the best thing to do to eliminate shaking bows? my bow usually shakes when i turn the bow in some parts when play Air on G string. I dont usually have this problem with fast and short bow stroke.

  • i'm also a fingerstyle guitarist... i need my thumbnail..... sigh...

  • I can't speack english very well than I understand only few words!is not possible to have subtitles? Please!it's really interesting for me which I teach!

  • hi i've playing violin at my school for 3 years and i've built very bad posture habits; I'm left -handed and i struggle curving my pinkie & thumb i can curve both fingers on a pencil but when i want to do it on the bow the pinkie & thumb straighten. Any suggestions?? - Guadalupe

  • @gua3547354 Keep trying. You'll build the strength. I'm also a lefty. Correct yourself after every minute until you get it.

  • I would really want to take up violin, but only as a hobby, I don't really think that music will turn into more than that for me... but I was wondering, is 17 an inappropriate age to learn to play such a difficult instrument? and will my experience with the guitar be of any help? thanks in advance, these are probably the best lessons on YouTube from what I've seen..

  • @DarkLionInteractive I bought my violin at 32 yo (first one was a $60 chinese POC which was more than enough for me to compromise and buy a Czech $600 one). I've seven months practicing for a couple of hours 4 to 5 days a week and it's been a blast. It's impressive to hear myself playing it. Everyone is surprised in my house too given the horror of the first three months... My goal is to record myself over sampled strings to make them sound totally realistic. What's your goal?

  • @alobosk I love the instrument, I have my own music that uses it, but the violin simulators sound very artificial... so I'm learning in the hopes that I can combine the guitar, the piano and the violin to make something beautiful out of them.. so far, I only have experience with the guitar..... but it's great to hear your story about learning to play the violin... it's one of the very few stories that actually motivates me.... I'll be watching more of your videos once I purchase my first violin

  • I wish you were my teacher

  • I learned the method that you show at 3:08, with the fingers spread out (this was 20 years ago). I always felt like I was really stretching to try to keep my fingers in that position.

  • Hello and a happy New Year! Finally I've found somebody on YT who explains the beginners bowhand and at what ages it should be tought. Thanx a lot for that!!!

  • hi mr.ehle, i've been playing the violin for a few years now but i noticed that the way i hold my bow is different from yours, my pinky is on the end of the bow and my thumb does not fall on either my index or middle finger, it is all separated. I understand that this way of holding is wrong, but it is the most comfortable for me and if i were to use your way my hand would cramp up or fall back into the old position. Is this a very critical problem which i must correct?

  • Thank you so much for all these lessons. I think that you are an amazing teacher.

  • Is it okay if your pinky is not curved?

If it is curved and rested on the top of the bow, the whole thing collapses.

  • I'm an adult beginner. I appreciate your videos, very helpful.

  • wow

  • Hi, professorv, I have a question. Why does my right pinky want to lock in hyperextension when I play?

Thank you very much for the time you've invested in making these videos, as well as responding to comments and questions :)

  • I'm a beginner and attending lessons once a week for an hour. Watching your tutorials greatly refreshes my memory. Thank You!

  • Thanks. It really helped me for my music class.

  • Thanks for the video teacher, it's help me a lot!!!

    Bye :-)

  • i really love you vid..... Create more vids...!!

  • wow I like so much see your class , my daugther has 14 yo and she begin whit violin'class, she love this instrument, and I hope your videos supported at she (she have a teacher but only 2 hours at the week, I think is a little time) thanks for all

  • you are trully a good teacher. :) a big two thumbs up

  • you are trully a good teacher.

  • hey dude this is brilliant!!! im starting to give lessons myself !!! you have a great way of explaining things

  • Hi professorV I'm a violin teacher from Perú. Your lessons always give new ideas about introducing technique concepts, keep going!

  • Thank you! 0:36-0:47 You are so right! I was taught a beginner bow hold where I put my thumb on the flat metal ring. When I switched to the adult bow hold nearly a year later, my thumb always refused to curve inwards and instead curved the other way, as in my beginner hold. I'm just getting the right curves in my thumb and fingers now, after 1 1/2 years of the new hold. It slowed down my learning pace a lot. I wish all schools knew this. It will save everyone so much time!

  • Thanks so much Todd.

  • Another great video.

  • cannot watch video, constant static & cut offs. Good if you can see it.

  • Hi Mr Ehle. I found your videos while doing research for a piece of fiction I'm writing about a violinist. I wanted to be able to describe the hand hold/finger placement legitimately and I found both your videos 1 and 2 to be extremely useful. Also your teaching style is very good and calming - I can see young children in particular really responding well to that. You've made me want to take up playing! ;o)

    All the best.

  • Very beautiful and clear explanations!

    Thank you so much!

  • Oh thank you so much for explaining this. I had my first violin lesson and I've been a little confused at how to hold the bow. You explain so well! Thank you again!! :)

  • thank you so much for this! I'm just starting to play the violin at 27! There are too many online teachers who just rush through, forgetting that when they learned, it didn't all magically come to them in 2 secs flat! Thanks for your detailed explanations!

  • Hello Mr Ehle , you're an amazing teacher !

You know lately, I have been having problems of my bow rattling too much that it distorts the sound. :\

Do you think you know what's happening ?

    It's pretty annoying haha

  • Hello professor V. I just got a violin recently as a gift, dont know how to play but ive always dreamt of playing it! now my problem is that im not really able to tune my strings yet so plz can u give me some advice on that.. Thank u so much

  • @Meeeeeeeeee89 -You can use a piano or a chromatic guitar tuner. Try Korg brand chromatic guitar tuner. I am just starting with violin myself! I stepped on the cats tail!(sound!) just kidding! Actually I'm doing okay esp after having played guitar. Joni

  • awesome instructional video.

  • @newheavens I have been playing for 35 years and am a professional string teacher.

  • Daghang salamat sa imong paghatag ug impormasyon mahitungod sa pag-duwa ug violin. nakakat-on ko ug daghan pero may kuwang pa gamay. salamat- thanks

  • Thank you so much for these video instruction lessons Todd... they help me so much :) I have to say, you also have a very calming and soothing voice. My dog fell asleep with her head on my lap, listening to you!! :)

  • I ve played the violin for 5years

    when i played the slow-rhythm-songs

there were always a cracking sound when i bowed up to down or down to up.

its difficult to improve and avoid especially when the melody is in forte!!

i am going to have the gr 7 exam soon=(

  • Hello Mr. Ehle! Thanks for you videos. I've been playing for 3 months, and my first finger always slides to its second joint or further (like in russian school) and my hand leans forward because of that. For me it seems just natural, I just don't know how to make the finger not to slide there. Is it really important to keep the first finger like You advise? Is it bad, that my hand is leaning forward? You are talking about sliding in the video, but because of my poor english, I didn't get you(

  • NikitoZ1989, It sounds like you have a high wrist (or high forearm with a bent wrist when in the middle of the bow), which causes the sliding of the first finger. If you flatten out the wrist when you are in the middle of the bow (between frog and tip) you may find that everything works better. Good luck.

  • faithangelatomas, it doesn't matter if you are left or right handed with violin--bow is always right hand, violin in left hand.

  • Thanks for this - I am an adult just starting out with the violin, and holding the bow properly has been a big challenge for me! I'll be trying some of the tips you mentioned.

  • ahww... how about for left handed fellows?

  • @faithangelatomas do what i do just whenever he says right you need to hear left and whenever he says left just imaginary hear right!

  • hmm... my fingers are long, and it feels really weird and awkward. any suggestions how i should place my fingers then?

  • thank you sir... but i have a hard time practicing it.. my hands become a little numb and heavy :)

  • very good and thanks

  • ありがとう ございます, 先生. Thank you very much professor. :D

  • i hold my bow with my middle finger and fourth finger slightly separate, not touching. it feels more natural...

  • Proffeser, I'm a guitarist. I've been playing guitar for four years, and I know it very well. Is the violin figering similar?

  • No, not really. but the fact that you play guitar will translate over to the violin pretty well. Learning a second instrument is much easier thatn the first. I highly encourage you give it a try!

  • I don't just play guitar, I'm an orcestra timpanist, play snare drum, and most mallet instruments. It'd be more like and eighth instrument.

  • I already play several other mallet percussion instruments...

  • i'm exactly the same as you. four years on guitar

  • if ur a guitarist u wont have any troubles and u will learn fast especially if u can read notes

  • is it ok that my fingernails are long ? ?

  • Hey Professor,

I've been holding my bow with the thumb in the loop for almost a year and a half until this video where I discovered it was wrong. Should I continue with it or change it?

    thank-you.

  • profesor V......

do you know how much tension should the heir of the bow be???

thank you very much for your videos, they are very usefull ....i don't have a teacher yet so you have help me a lot

pd: forgive me for my bad english, i don't speak it very well....^///^

  • Hello Mr. Ehle! First of all, thank you for this series of videos, I've just begun practicing violin and they're very helpful. In fact, I just got my violin today and have a question: I know the bow is supposed to be a bit bent, but my bow is so bent the hair is actually touching the wood of the bow... Is it supposed to do that or do I have to get a new bow?

  • Hi westost, it sounds like you just need to tighten the hairs. Turn the silver button at the end of the stink clockwise and it should work fine. Don't make it too tight though, just a little wider than a pencil's diameter at the middle of the stick.

    Good luck.

  • Good afternoon Mr. Ehle.

Have you removed some of your lessons? I'm a 53 yr old novice who GREATLY appreciates your productions and will sadly miss your lessons if you are retracting them.

Please continue to forward your thoughts and experience as they are greatly appreciated by many.

Please believe me when I say that without your YouTube lessons, I will be in a quandary.

I take private lessons but can't tell you how much your sessons add to my development.

Please, please , please don't stop

  • Hi r1Johnny,

Lessons 22-26 were about wrist and arm vibrato and I have replaced them with two new videos (hopefully clearer, but on the same subject) which you can find on my channel. I'll re-number the lessons as soon as I can.

Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the very kind note!

    Todd

  • @professorV Hey I need your help on the bow hold =[ my teacher taught me to put my whole thumb at the frog but still at a curved angle. Is that bad? cuz u said half at the frog and half at the grip =[

  • @r1johnny I just started taking lessons. I'm 40, just wondering you stuck with it and still playing.

  • wer is the violin mr?

  • This helped me so much! I've recently picked up violin after not playing for a couple of years (my main instrument is flute), and it feels so much more natural now! Sometimes I guess we just need reminders... =]

  • thanks master for sharing this is great help for me, i been doing self study on violin and your videos are great help for me..thanks

  • you are such a great teacher, thanks a lot.

  • trina1623 you should try some finger push ups with a pencil...they help flex your fingers. But just practice...any d, a, or e you can play 4th finger do it. Practice makes perfect

  • -♪thanks for the lessons!♪-

    ♪bhom♪

  • ♪this lessons can help me...thanks todd ehle!!...

  • hey.i'm a violinist too.i find it difficult to hold the bow as well as use my 4th finger.how can I overcome this?

  • my small finger is going numb i'm not pressing it' he weight of the bow what can i do to ix this

  • Thanks a lot Man:)

  • I am a beginner, and i love practicing! i'll practice 1-2 hours a day...anyways, i have a problem with my bow thumb going numb. this happened to me about a year ago and my thumb was numb for 3 days...i quit practicing for 8 months after that and now i'm back at it! anyways, is this normal!?

  • Hi, It is not normal and could lead to problems later on. I'd guess you are squeezing the bow too hard! Try to let the violin support the weight of the bow and be very aware of the amount of pressure you are applying to the stick. Good luck.

  • please...in spanish...help me en español

  • Thank you very much! This help me alot!

  • i am a guitarrist since i was 11, now im 16 does it helps learning violin? i mean, fingerspeed, hand muscles anything?

  • Being a guitarist sort of can help as it is similar in... a few ways. I could pick up using my left hand on the violin quite quickly as I simply pictured it as a guitar with different tunings. They're totally different instruments though xD

  • Hi! I really appreciate your videos. I have been wanting to play the violing but haven't found the time nor the money to do so. I haven't bought a violin yet, but I was just wondering, what brand, size, price range should the violin be? I found one for $60.00 brand new. Does that seem right? I just wana buy a good violin. Thanks

    Wajma

  • You probably won't get a decent sounding violin for anywhere near 60$..not even for 600$

if your a beginner its much more practical to rent one, cuz you can get a good violin for a cheap monthy rate..

  • actually, it really depends on you. you need a violin that sounds good, and feels good in your grip, and when you place the bow on it, and when you string or sound the violin. since you're a beginner, i would suggest asking a person who plays violin to help you judge on the second half, but the sound quality is entirely up to you. some people like violins with a more "eeh" sound to it, or some, like me, like "ah" and oh's" better. there's also richness, sharpness, and softness.

  • so you can find a violin costing only $60.00 and have it be the perfect one for you, but generally the more expensive ones ranging over $1000.00 are better, although as i've said before that's not always the case.

you also want to know about what country the violin was imprted from, or the maker. some violins, especially ones from china, don't have wood that has been dried long enough, so over time the violin will shrink, causing sound problems and in some worse cases cracks. (srry for two posts

  • thaks all the way from Guadalajara mexico!

    tood you rock!!!

  • Dear Todd, I would like to thank you for the precious resource your videos represent for me as a violin beginner!

  • You do an exceptional job teaching the bow hold. My only gripe is that I disagree with planning any amount of space between the fingers. If one shakes out his hand and lets it hang loose, and takes note of this most natural spacing, this is what the spacing should be on the bowhold as well. I feel to prescribe a certain amount of space induces tension. But everything else, in your other videos as well, is magnificent and you present everything extremely well

  • Do you have any suggestions for classical guitarists who are trying to learn fiddle in regards to the thumb placement with the bow grip? I'm struggling with the way the thumb curves into the grip because of the thumbnail that I need for my guitar playing. I hope it's not a situation where I have to give up one for the other. Thanks re

  • Gee, if I had read all of the posts starting last year, I would have had your answer. Sorry about bringing up an old subject unnecessarily. re

  • You are soo great. Saludos.

  • Thanks! But when i did some research, they said that we have to put our pointer on the pad...is it true???BDW,thanks for the lessons!

  • this is soo great! Thank you so much! I am a girl from Germany and I couldn't effort to get some lessons so far. I rented myself a violin from school, and studying by myself is perfect with your videos:)

  • a question... are there different ways to hold the bow? or your way is the only one or it's the right one? i've seen people holding the bow like you and people holding it in a different way. thank you for the answer and sorry for my english.

  • oh there are many, many different ways to hold the bow! with some research, you'll see how many ways there are. how people hold it depends mainly on what their teacher have taught them, and on individual preferences as well

    =)

  • does having a long thumb affect the bow hold in any way?

  • thank you very much!!

    i really needed this

  • Hi professorV,

I have one question regarding holding the bow. Basically, I'm a grade 3 violinist and have been holding the bow in a wrong way until recently. I have now been able to hold to bow the right way, thanks to your video.

However, I have two questions concerning bow holding. First, when I hold the bow, I can sense tension on my pinky (4th finger) and by the time I practice, I find that my pinky becomes straight, instead of being curved.

  • What could be wrong that I'm doing, or is this feeling of tension & change in pinky position expected, experienced and usual?

Secondly, when I play using the bow (with the new bow handling that I got to know), I find the bow shaking when I strike a note or even play normally, which at many times makes my playing sounds as if it were a little bit shaky, when I'm holding the bow both either firmly or delicately. What can I do to eliminate this shaky bow behavior?

    Thank you!

    ~Sam A.

  • not trying to be a smartass, but why change your bowing technique after so much time, if the original worked?

  • Well, I was told by new teacher that I am holding the bow in a fashion that isn't correct. I kind of agreed with her, since I kept feeling a slight sense of tension. Even the shaking of the bow, was due to my wrong hands positioning on the bow. Reasons that really were legitimate.

But anyways, I practiced my bow holding and it didn't take me more than week. I even realized that my overall all playing is smoother and lesser in tension.

My thanks to the "Bunny" hand placement. Thanks Prof.V! :D

  • Thank you very much sir! Please, never take these videos away! I really need them. I will by a violin (I am 16 years old), but I don't think that I have many enough yet. How much does a violin cost? Do you know what it costs in swedish kronor? Thank you for posting this, sir!

  • that was a reply......

  • By the way... you teach really well... i hope you post a video of you playing a piece...

  • how will you know which violin to choose when buying?? i mean... does it matter if your violin is not so expensive? lastly, which method do you usually use while playing... the suzuki or the other one??

  • it doesnt matter the price as long as it is in good shape. you should look of theres scraches and wobles. you should also test it if its good as well. well thats all i can think of....hope you buy a good violin unless you already bought one...

  • it doesnt matter the price as long as it is in good shape. you should look of theres scraches and wobles. you should also test it if its good as well. well thats all i can think of....hope you buy a good violin unless you already bought one...

  • thanks! I've been playing awhile and am looking to improve bowing. I was pleasantly surprised to learn and to then decide to modify my bow grip. looking forward to the rest of the story

  • So, if you hold the bow up straight("lighter"), the thumb goes kind of through the u shape of the thing with the dot on it, and the tip of the thumb is a little on the wood and a little on the black part before the metal? (really hard to keep it curved by the way - if I really bend my thumb it causes the whole bow to slightly rotate away from me because I push it that way with my thumb, is that right?)

  • THANKS 5 STARS. You are a real professor.

  • hmm..

is it wrong if my 4th finger's 1st knuckle is dropping and just relax?

  • i'm a novice, and taking my first lessons from a private teacher,i thank you very much couse i've found yours very useful to improve and have a stored lessons to watch again, couse at the first there is a lot to be uncertain of.

I think my bow holding is progressing. My thumb doesn´t bother any more and I can hold it during a long time very relaxed.Maybe I must curve my right-hand fingers a little more.

In the end of the video, you´ll see I got bored and placed some fingers !! ja ja ja

  • hi, i am from sud america,i have 22 years and i start with the violin a bit more than 5 years i know that is no a lot time but can you tell me if i have hope in this way?? sorry but my english is very bad

  • Yes, you have hope! You are never too old to play. You may never be Perlman or Heifetz, but you can still enjoy the learning process. How far you go will depend on many factors, but most of all: determination and patience. Good luck!

  • Or how much you enjoy it. I hear people saying they practice guitar for 8 hours a day, but I PLAYED for 6. I'm on the way to getting as good as them.

ps, I like your vid's, I want to learn this now.

  • ProfessorV, I've been watching a couple of videos and I'm impressed with the detail you go into the technique. However, I have a question. If I want to learn Violin, do you think that your own video source is a proper substitute for a real life teacher? I do not have the money for steady lessons or anything, but I would love to learn to play such a beautiful instrument.

  • On a side note, I have been playing guitar for a bit more than two years now and I have a proper understanding of music theory and my ear is developing quite fine as well.

  • Hi Tom64, No, I do not think these videos can replace a qualified teacher. You need feedback from a pro if you want to do your best work. Regards, TE

  • Oo, thanks for the video! I had my first lesson and she taught me to hold my bow with the thumb on the metal (and I don't like it), but I'm 16. Not 3 or 4. This has been most helpful.

  • yeeey!!!its a rabbit!!

thanks anyway...im planning to take violin lessons..

    and so excited bout it!!

  • chuckle...

  • I'm going to have to practice this--my hand isn't quite used to this position yet! But thank you for such valuable instruction--it helps someone like me who hasn't picked up a violin in a dozen years.

  • my bow hand stinks i got used to curving my hand the oposite way. and when i try to curve it the other way my bow hand becomes weak and i feel like my bow is going to just fall

  • Hi professor. Thank you very much for this detailed lessons! I am learning a lot.

  • Hi ryuutenshi29 - you are welcome!

  • Hi meshkat19,

Thanks! I've seen this problem with guitarist/violinists before. The goal is to have a curved - "springy" thumb. Try bringing the thumbnail to the side of the stick. The nail will probably touch the middle finger, but that's okay. You may not be on the very tip of the thumb but you should still be able to curve it a little. Good luck!

  • Hi, this is an awesome video you made!! but there is a problem for me. i play the classical guitar and i have to keep my thumb nail long which makes difficulty for curving my thumb. do u know any other way of holding the bow without curving the thumb?
