@Argon165 so lets say theirs 25 workers inside the building these 'terrorists' want to attack, this bollar saves all their lives. What price do you put on each life inside the protected building? i'll hazard a guess you didn't think this far ahead.
People are so much lacking imagination these days. Its always a car bombing or suicide bombing or a hijack. Duh.
For example, you could follow traintracks at night, and derail them all. Derailing a passenger train full of people would be so efficient, if killing people is what you want. But even better would be derailing supply trains. They transport so much supplies and goods with trains, derailing even a few would have a crucial impact. And its so easy to derail them, too. Imagination, people
amazing.. these stable reinforced bollards effetively stop & destroy malicious vehicles even arriving at high speed. So the attacker won't be able to escape.
Firstly, the idea of these bollards is to protect embassies. Also, funnily enough...there's not just gonna be one bollard in front of an embassy, it will surround any roads leading up to it there is no chance of getting in. I happened to see this episode and afterwards. the show that the bollard is still fully operational and btw..there was an engine too cos they showed the remains afterwards :p
Shows how dangerous they are to normal vehicles involved in accidents. I was shunted into one in my van by a car, it caught fire, and destroyed it. Rising wheel blocks would stop just as effectively, without risking fire in the engine bay.
I do concrete work for a living and on occasion I am required to install bollards on the outside of buildings. This is by no means an average bollard. Most are simply an iron shell with a concrete center with no anchor other than 6 inches of concrete usually without rebar
thats the way make the roads more deadly than they already are..
speed bumps, trees in the centre of roads, islands ay T junctions, trees within 20meters, roundabouts and now these bastards cause more accidents than stop terriorists..
How about some simple flat smooth roads with no obsticals and lets not piss the terrorists for a better solution.
This anti-terrorist hysteria was a joke to me back then. Eight months later I'm curious to see how many of these were ever actually sold. If it's more than 0 color me surprised.
More than you think. They're all over the places, especially if you live in a city with lots of important government buildings and stuff of that nature.
Its a 1987 Ford Cargo, they also have them in America. I think the test would have been done late 04, or in 05. This is the I.D. details i found The vehicle details for D989 DRF are: Date of Liability 12 09 2005 Date of First Registration 01 06 1987 Year of Manufacture 1987 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 0CC CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type Heavy Oil Export Marker Not Applicable Vehicle Status Unlicensed Vehicle Colour YELLOW
I don't see how this is useful against terrorism. Maybe for a private parking area but other than that this stupid thing will only fuck up people's cars. Most pussies that get their cars fucked are simply like,"uh, ok, there's nothing I can do about it", and just walk off. Then there are others like myself where if anything happens to the car (Even if somebody puts their hand on the hood...shit, it leaves a fucking handprint, totally ruining a good wash and wax)I fuck up the one responsible.
Where the engine? The front of that truck collapsed far too easily. I reckon the engine bay was smpty, which would make the whole test a) very easy and dramatic and b) invalid.
Doubt it would make much difference, the engine mounts would have broken and it would have been pushed back into or under the flatbed. There's already a significant amount of weight in the truck, the engine wouldn't have added a huge amount more.
There was an engine knucklehead, it was demolished. The whole point of the test was to prevent someone from driving a truck into a building. Not someone towing a truck into a building.

Argon165 2 years ago
@Argon165 Um, no, not really. Bollards are relatively cheap - it's just a steel post with a hydraulic lift, most models cost only a few thousand.
Try getting through any surgery with less than twenty thousand dollars - the hospital staff will fall over laughing!

ROFL, you think the truck would be in any better condition if it had an engine?
sunnygtir 5 years ago
No, but the post might not come off so well.
skipweasel 5 years ago
Doubt it would make much difference, the engine mounts would have broken and it would have been pushed back into or under the flatbed. There's already a significant amount of weight in the truck, the engine wouldn't have added a huge amount more.
sunnygtir 5 years ago
There was an engine in there, look at the puddle of oil after the truck is pulled back.
SimonSNJ 5 years ago
Doesn't necessarily mean there was an engine there, could have been from any other part of the truck (ie, axle)
The engine may well have made a difference, I'm pretty sure if it did have an engine in it it wouldn't have crumpled up as fast as it did.
volvomantom 5 years ago
The gearbox hanging out of the wreck is also a giveaway
