Firstly, the idea of these bollards is to protect embassies. Also, funnily enough...there's not just gonna be one bollard in front of an embassy, it will surround any roads leading up to it there is no chance of getting in. I happened to see this episode and afterwards. the show that the bollard is still fully operational and btw..there was an engine too cos they showed the remains afterwards :p

Shows how dangerous they are to normal vehicles involved in accidents. I was shunted into one in my van by a car, it caught fire, and destroyed it. Rising wheel blocks would stop just as effectively, without risking fire in the engine bay.

I do concrete work for a living and on occasion I am required to install bollards on the outside of buildings. This is by no means an average bollard. Most are simply an iron shell with a concrete center with no anchor other than 6 inches of concrete usually without rebar

Where the engine? The front of that truck collapsed far too easily. I reckon the engine bay was smpty, which would make the whole test a) very easy and dramatic and b) invalid.

Doubt it would make much difference, the engine mounts would have broken and it would have been pushed back into or under the flatbed. There's already a significant amount of weight in the truck, the engine wouldn't have added a huge amount more.

The engine may well have made a difference, I'm pretty sure if it did have an engine in it it wouldn't have crumpled up as fast as it did.
