  • DAFUQ IS THAT SH*T???Srsly though thats probably the worst rip off ever...

  • WTF where is the crew other than Criton???

  • Awful story, bad jokes, unnecissary dialouge, bad acting, horrible picture quality, bad continuity, In short; READ THE TOP COMMENT!/keshihead85's comment

  • Why couldn't they just watch the proper Red Dwarf? Bastards.

  • @Saskatchewan00 I watched the original one and others did on PBS. Same goes with Life on Mars, Being Human, Office, etc... They still tried to remake them despite US popularity and exposure to the originals.

  • @TheSnappySneezer It's always great talking to Americans who are into their English TV shows. Have you ever seen Black Books? But yeah, I wasn't having a pop at Americans - Americans are great. That's just my weird scouse humour shining through. Hahaha.

  • @Saskatchewan00 No offense taken, just wanted ya to know Red Dwarf was available over here at the time and had and has some following.

I have seen Black Books, I own it on DVD. Actually I imported the DVD from the UK long before it was actually released in the US. I have also imported Spaced, Omega Factor, Blakes 7, Hancock's Half Hour, Adam Adamant Lives, Hi-De-Hi, You Rang M'Lord, the Carry On films and a number of others that were not released her though some have since then

  • Ha made me laugh so much!! Deffo prefer the English version :)

  • picture quality sucks

  • awful

  • americans spoil everything

  • Joke recycling much?

  • Is it just me or is the guy in the intro a lot fatter?

  • Lol they even changed the original cat the new cat is black haha funny

  • 'Junk heap' IS the word. Thank god this didn't air! It's an insult to the Top british comedy that was and is Red Dwarf!

  • what the smeg is this????

  • usa pawwww not good

  • "so basically my sex life is unchanged" the most stupid joke that i ever heard, just see his face expression what a stupid.

  • This is dreadful ! on par with the spaced pilot........... why re-write the whole show? why dumb it down so much ? dreadful

  • Kryten sounds just the same as in the UK version... Huh.

  • @TheIronicTea he is played by the same actor

  • @Kimm4 O_o. Why?

  • @TheIronicTea Same actor

  • so is rimmer gay in this one?

  • Englands one was better than the stupid crappy American version :/

  • FUN FUN FUUUUUN IN THE SUN SUN SUUUUN

  • 'Rimmer' just doesn't sound the same when it's said with such a plain American accent like that :/

  • why do Americans love to remake everything, I will never know...also, it's in the same language, just why would you do that

  • @Kimm4 just to warn you the americans are making an only fools and horses now. david jason isent happy, an american del boy what the hell are they thinking,

  • That's Lister???? THAT'S FUCKING LISTER!?!? THAT'S NOT FUCKING LISTER. FUCK YOU AMERICA.

  • Omg i watch less than 1 min and turned off. Guess Robert was just in it for the money.

  • I got to 2:30 when Rimmer says "goofing off" before I changed it. No. Just, no.

  • This physically makes me sick..

  • Ok time to watch the perfect and only version, this is just hard to watch

  • WHY Robert Llewellyn? WWWWHHHHHYYYY???????????

  • so... bad. And I thought the digitilization of the original series was in bad taste. I like the grainy look of the series in its original form.

  • Wow i wish i had never come across this remake, my eyes and ears are bleeding.

  • @TheARMAProductions inbetweeners? pretty freaking raunchy...

  • why did robert llewellyn even do this???

  • @BigWill942 A lot of the cast were convinced the British show was going to end. So probably because it was a job that he thought he would need.

  • What the hell is this crap?

  • and I thought rape was outlawed

  • Why did they bother? Nothing wrong with the original!

  • the casting for lister and rimmer is terrible =\

  • this wasnt half bad. Pity it never continued

  • @wolfman8325

You're right, cause that'd mean only half of it was terrible.

  • @TheARMAProductions red dwarf, bottom, the young ones, black adder, fawlty towers. the good old days of comedy have sadly died and i doubt we will see television shows comparable too these anytime soon

  • the audience go over the top at unfunny gags

  • thank god this never made it!

  • us can not do a classic uk stuff like red dwarf,

the us is for ncis and the likes, there great but coping the uk

    prog is poor.

  • stange that lister an rimmers real names are still craig and chris

  • Brains dribbling out of my ears.

  • big fan of the original this is very painful to watch.

  • oh....... god.......... Now I know where the terrorists are coming from

  • this upsets me.

  • You gotta love how they went with Holly explaining everything like they do in later episodes for people who misses the first one, instead of actually acting everything out to establish the universe. Really- thats the thing that kind of sums up the differences to me.

  • Kryton almost makes this watchable.

  • Music is defo worse than it is in the UK

  • The guy playing Lister is actually pretty good - but the problem is he doesn't look/act like a Lister. More like someone you'd see on the Firefly crew

Also I'd like to note there's far too many people walking in the background!

  • smeg'n lol..opening credits sounds like porn ;)

  • Robert played as Kryten in this series , only good thing.

American comedy shown here , many one liners shouted out and over exaggeration.

  • Oh My God! It's bloody awful.

  • it is not funny at all.. omg what have they done.

  • OH GOD

    MY EYEBALLS

    IT'S RAPING THEM

    ITS RAPING THEEEEMMM

  • Oh this is all so wrong..

  • Its things like this which proove America isnt the real leader where creative ingenuity and freshness is concerned. Some countries come up with thier own ideas for shows, US just steals them off everyone else, lame.

  • This is NOT MADE by Americans. Rob Grant & Doug Naylor (the creators of Red Dwarf) made this. They intended to make Red Dwarf US but abandoned the idea after this pilot.

  • @Tkhaikovski Not entirely, Rob Grant and Doug Naylor brought their screenplay to the American producers. The American Producers said, "Yeah, that's nice." binned the screenplay and went with their own thing.

  • @Brittonsp I thought that this was just Grant and Naylor's work. Now, I see I was wrong.

  • @Tkhaikovski On the series 5 DVD, there's a documentary called "Dwarfing USA" which explains in great detail how and why the US Red Dwarf was what it was and why it failed so miserably.

  • They way they've done it it looks like it's from a comedian's sketch show.

  • the krighten character sounds alot like the one from the orginal red dwarf

  • @charlie77771 That's because Kryten in the American pilot was protrated by Robert Llewyn (sp?) who also protrayed Kryten in the UK series :-)

  • @charlie77771 it's the same actor only good thing i can see from this pilot.

  • Worst thing ever

  • -.-

  • If you listen very closely you can still hear the collective sound of a thousand tv channels being changed at once

  • @Railx22 Hahaha best comment I've ever read!

  • @Railx22 It never aired on TV anywhere on Earth. This is from a bootleg.

  • I think the only thing that makes the brittish one funnier is because of the way they say it ,sarcastic and just hilarious where as the americans say it all hollywood-ised and its just not as funny

  • LOL 720p for a show made in 1992. Classic.

  • LOL

  • how many ep did this do ??

  • Oh myyy godddd .. hod bad is this !!! haahahahahaha

  • Even the opening theme sounds half-assed.

  • the fuck is this shit

  • I'm embarrassed to admit that I did actually listen to the theme song 4 or 5 times because I thought it was pretty catchy. The rest was shit.

  • I like to consider myself a fan of the series...and sadly "American" but British humor is naturally funny on all levels from phd. down to pre-school, it does not need to be interpreted. This American dwarf shit sucks, and blows more then a $2 American dollar hooker, the fact that they felt the need to translate British gold into US garbage disgust me...almost 10 min. of my life I will not get back..what next redo "Fawlty Towers"

  • @FortApacheArmory They already tried Fawlty Towers 3 times, 2 completely failed and 1 didn't even get made.

  • As an American, and a Red Dwarf fan, I'm embarrassed . We tried and failed with Coupling too. Another great show.

  • lylwellan got a huge salary thats why he did it,he was going to sign a very lucrative 5 year contract, and got sucked into all the glitz and glamour

  • @guitarnashelter - American series have better salaries, to indirectly quote Nicola Bryant ( Peri from " Doctor Who " ), but good salaries don't always mean the series won't suck. What I've seen of the U.S. version of RD is only marginally as funny / interesting as watching mayonaise spoil.

Now - Futurama, that has some pretty funny moments.

  • yes the british version is better but this is ok, don't know why our kryton's in it though and daphne from frasier is so fitxx

  • you just cant immatate british comedy

  • why the hell is the actual Kryten in this diabolic version of the cult brit classic, its crap............the humours well plain and boring and since when did they already have a hollogram on board?

  • @NORFIE123456 While I agree with your points, the answer to your question is series 1, episode 1....

  • they really don't have the same comic timing as the original (apart from robert llewellyn of course).

  • I'd so totally thumbs down this piece of crap U.S. imitation of the BRITISH COMEDY CLASSIC...... Red Dwarf.

  • why did the doppy yank prick's try to rip it then change it and fuck it right up epick fail dick head's

  • God this is dreadful, I can understand why the american version didn't take off so well. It's not even funny.

  • written by Linwood Boomer, starring Hinton Battle. lol. this is actually hurting my eys. I got to 2.31...

  • @richardellipsis I actually got a few seconds further, wished I stopped as quickly as you did.

  • Comment removed

  • The jokes are basically the same but the delivery is like they don't care or don't want to be there. Can't say I blame them. :)

  • Why oh why did they feel the need to make this version? They speak english don't they? There is no need for this disgrace.

  • another american mess !

  • Well At Least Kryten Is Still Funny But The Reest of Them Completley Ruined It

  • as an American, I must say how sorry I am that this version even exists :(

  • I hate when they try to Americanize good British TV. SciFi or otherwise. Most Americans understand British humor just fine, without dumbing it down. its pathetic.

  • No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no

if only there was a emoticon for *face plam*........

  • Jeez this is stoopid. Love how in the US version they have to give the audience a tutorial just to explain our wit and humour.

  • What is this bollocks? they try to make the English jokes funny and they just ruin it...

  • Its Meh at best, large amount of just stolen jokes really..., but nice to see the characters different way

And american accents don't really seem to suit Sci-fi at all

  • I can't even finish watching this clip!

    All the awesome jokes are just repeated by terrible actors X.x;

  • Thank fuck they didn't make any more, how dare they! I honestly don't know what Robert Llewellyn was thinking. Chris Barrie was the only other original cast member offered the role of Rimmer for the US pilot but saw the sense to turn it down.

Dave is supposed to be doing series 10 (for some reason no series 9, I don't class Back To Earth as series 9). I really would like to know what happened immediately after the series 8 cliffhanger, Rimmer kneed Death in the balls and ran off, that was it.

  • No. Nooooo. Not liking this ONE bit.

  • What. The fuck. Is THIS?

  • British scenes and the main ship Red Dwarf was copied by USA USA USA!

Copy cats just like the X factor and Thunderbirds.

  • nonononononononono Red Dwarf is ENGLISH and ONLY ENGLISH

  • This is good. I don't care what anyone says. It's like the first few US The Offices - it's genuine Red Dwarf - bit condensed, but it is funny! They should be kicking themselves for not picking it up.

By the way, don't get the wrong idea, I am a purist and the first six seasons are all there is.

  • Linwood Boomer is a Great wrighter, but this show is i think the beginning of he's career behind the scenes, he's was a actor mostly famous as Adam Kendall in Little house on the prairie, and he is also the creator of malcolm in the middle!

  • WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!! why is America copying one of my favorite British shows i mean I dont like what they did to Torchwood and now i find out they copied Red Dwarf too?! they need o make their own goddamn shows and stop copying the real stuff.

  • Why do Americans always try to copy good Brit shows and turn them into pale, horrendous imitations? We don't change their programmes - why are they so insecure that they have to change our formats into their formats?

  • @Gandalf606 It's mostly because they run on 20+ episode seasons, whereas typically British sitcoms run on 6 episode series, ergo; it wouldn't fit their schedule very well.

  • @2601andrew - That surely can't be true - that's got to be the lamest excuse for abusing someone else’s creativity that I've ever heard. In reality - most Americans who've seen a British original, from Fawlty Towers to Top Gear unanimously prefer the British version. To be fair, the American actor who played 'Lister' - hated the American version and said so in a TV interview. Fair play to him for being so honest.

  • @Gandalf606 I'm pretty sure that's the reason, if you look at current American series like 'The Big Bang Theory', 'How I Met Your Mother' or whatever, their seasons run from September to May, that's a time period that 6 episodes couldn't cover. You're absolutely right though, most Americans I've spoken to prefer the original versions of shows, espicially 'Top Gear' but the producers want what the producers want... unfortunately.

  • @Gandalf606 Somethings are best left in the hands of the british and I am American.

  • @Gandalf606

It's all about ratings,I'm afraid. The major networks in the States can never leave well enough alone.

  • @Gandalf606 there's a list on wikipedia of both original UK shows with US remakes and vice versa. so don't be lying

  • They reused so many jokes from the real Red Dwarf in this pilot. Jokes from a number of different episodes. They some off so weird too as I know the original contexts they were all in it hearing them differently is strange indeed.

  • CAPSLOCK ANGER!!!

  • ... Why are the audiences laughing at this shit... ?

  • At least Holy is hot :)

  • FUCK YOU ROBERT

  • THIS IS THE WORST FUCKING AWFULL WANKIEST CORPORATE DICKHEAD CUNTIEST PISS STAINED WANK EVER

  • SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT WANK ARSEHOLES WANKERS

  • WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT. FUCK OFF. FUCK RIGHT OFF.

  • I think it was because you just can't replace Craig Charles and Chris Barrie.

  • I think it was because you just can't replace Craig Charles and Chris Barrie.

  • USA version: SHIT

    UK version: Awseome

  • This version is better, in other news Greedo shot first and everyone loves Jar Jar

  • The IT Crowd...Reggie Perrin...Fawlty Towers...Dr Who...Torchwood...Queer as Folk...Red Dwarf...

What do they all have in common? Good British shows with abysmal American remakes. If only there were some kind of pattern....

  • @KapStuf : Dr Who and Torchwood? They had some Coproduction with US-Stations, but no Remakes. And i have to confess i liked QaF US a lot more than the UK version.

    But otherwise your right...

  • tragic...

  • This is utter Hell

  • Ooh, it's Daphne!

  • whats with the theme tune??????

  • God, what is this mockery of one of the best shows?... I may be american, and a kid... but the british was way better, they didn't need to change it, its not like it was in chinese or anything

  • This actually has some decent humor to it, though Lister is miscast. Seems like it had potential to not suck, and I say this as a MASSIVE fan of Red Dwarf

  • God it's like Love Boat!!

  • not as tragic as the US version of dads army

  • so sad

  • Jane Leeves was in this :OOOOOOOOOO WHHAAAAT

  • sorry no offence to any one but the British version was already great there was no need for another version we don't do that with you, we dont say ok let's steal American Dad and call it British Dad, this was a waste of money I hate it when other countries steel our ideas and it seems to be America alot just let us have our idea's and stop trying to copy us.

  • What's with this theme song? It sounds a little bit too much like my copy of "More Lift Porn classics from the 23rd century."

  • the only good actor is robert

  • they have to ruin every good british comedy :(

  • for the love of god please please usa never do a uk show again. stick with things your good at like makeing weapons and being abducted by aliens from area 51 lol

  • Comment removed

  • The british one is better

  • @insainewolf777 Hell yes!!!!!!!!.

  • @insainewolf777

why do you think they didn't make a full version after the pilot episodes?

  • does anyone else feel dirty after watching this?

  • It's like agony watching this... it's terrible.

  • Thank god this is such bad quality, if it was any better, I would shit in my own eyes.

  • WHY???????????????

  • Okay, um, I'm American, and I just have to ask...What is this SHIT??!!!!

  • dreadfull! bland yet cheesy at the same time. kryton is the only decent thing about. no wonder it never took off
