  • Hell yeah!!!! Unbelievable

  • I am doing this for my end of the year MATH project?? 2:25 <-- Because of what she says there means something to do with math :/ Like come on? But I really agree with this video Thumbs up :)

  • Wow that was awesome!! I don't think racism is the point here.. The point is to be proud of your culture, ethnicity and who you are.

    MAORI HARD!! :)

  • she is wearing make up at the bus stop...why? mixed message

  • great/ but the girl in the video is wearing make up at the bus stop

  • I'm trying to create a forum where you can discuss anit-racism and and anything involving that.

    iaar(dot)webs(dot)com

  • amazing.

  • freaking amazing. saw this in my asian american studies film and video class today and had to watch it again.

  • couple of years after i first heard this, and it still gives me chills (the good kind)

  • Thank You! This is SO Blessed & Lovely.

  • I'm curious why this comment is spammed.

  • Me too, lol.

I was simply saying it was amazing! =)

  • This is sick!

  • simply amazing

  • Real beauty does not come from make up. It comes from the beauty of who you are and what you are. That's what the vid is all about.

  • wow you guys all suck. This video's purpose isn't to say that people shouldn't wear makeup, it's trying to say that the girl's ethic background isn't due to her makeup, but the makeup is there to aid in people understanding that she is a certain ethnicity and gender. She doesn't like how girl's feel the need to wear makeup to cover up their true selves.

  • You're obviously an idiot. Racism accounts for the Holocaust, American segregation/heart ache, and not to mention millions and millions of other deaths and agony. You have to be an idiot to not think that Racism is horrible.

  • There's nothing wrong with wearing makeup contrary to what people may say.

  • An obvious culture distinction :)

  • So, it's no ok for Asians to wear makeup?

  • No, I was saying that it's a lot more routine to wear make up in the modern American culture as apposed to an assimilated Asian one.

  • dope

  • i bet you all the people dissing do not have pride in what they have or are just dumbasses.

"danm girl you must be traffic ticket cuz you got fine written all over you"

  • I'm not going to use that line on a girl again.

  • that was deep <3

  • Damn i love that.

  • this guy is bombbbb!

  • deep

  • and the vid is great

  • WELL i Love this poem becuz its so deep and it tells the truth

  • idk what daqrlritethurr was replying to, but all the comments below his all the way down to and including st34k123 have nothing to do with the message of this video. you have completely missed the point of this video and obviously didn't absorb the very true and deep message it sends. and to all you who flame this comment or say it doesnt make sanse, you need to watch the video again and listen to it, not jsut hearing it, but absorbing and understanding it. once every1 can do that,we can move on

  • How lovely... because that was the point of the video. I mean come on what the fuck!

  • this guy is the bomb

  • This guy is great.

  • It's a matter of semantics. There are no words saying anything against "white" people. This short holds true for all races, including those represented by the word "white". The analogy drawn to mass media and makeup was used to illustrate the issue of having no roots in a globalized world. Turn down the heat and ask yourself who you are and where you come from. If you have an answer then you are fortunate as many don't.

  • Of course i dont believe whites created every civilisations i never said that. I think my comments were a reflection at my frustration at this rampant anti-white bs that seems to be going around. I take people as people, its just the media that makes everything black and white. Of course im going to be angry, if i comment ony mass immigration cause here in the UK we are running out space i am called a nazi for trying to point out the problems. Dont try and guilt trip me you dont even know me.

  • rampant anti-white bs? what are you talking about?

just think of this as the voice of the people who are being suppressed by american and european corporations.

no one is saying that americans and europeans are the only ones doing it.

and i say this with all due respect.

  • very very good short film

i noticed that this was featured at the 6th Annual "Media that Matters" film festival....so was "A Girl Like Me" by Kiri Davis

    Excellent good Karen Lum

  • this is fucking great

amazing. i wish i could just write it all down <3

  • go fucking die you moron.

  • i don't waste my time for long ass flames like you do. i have better things to do. go play in traffic.

  • Yet your comments to other people comments above so so educated...

  • then dont watch it..

    your so ignorant.

i hope that one day you find out what its really like to be discriminated against... and then i hope that day scars you for life..

then you look back on this and you'll wish you were more educated when you wrote your comment here.

  • I hope you are not commenting about me because that would be extremely ignorant assuming what i have been through in my life. Why would you hope someone is scared thats a bit wrong? You seem to be bitter and perhaps slightly twisted, descrimination is a not a black and white thing as the media would have you believe.

  • are you talking to me? cause i wasnt referring what i said up there to you. i replied to your comment. but its down there.

and i said scarred. not scared. i was talking to slickskillet123.

im not bitter.. and i know that discrimination is not black and white only.

  • k then np

  • damn this is sweet

    i fucking love it

    <3

  • whoa tat girl is like me

<<<no make up, smart, and will get on yo ass if u try 2 hit on her

  • love it

  • go karen! we love you!

    -skyline film crew

  • this is amazing

    i love love love it!

  • does anybody have the lyrics to this?

  • HEAD EXLPLODING!!

was funny too fast but fast makes it funny :P

  • nice bro

  • he was speakin to fast lol but it was good

  • that was pure raw talent, and the topic u chose couldn't have been better. awesome work!

  • That man can talk..well done 4outa 5 fer me

  • excellent you can talk mad fast

  • DAMN DUDE, YOU FUCKIN SERVED IT!!

  • I like this one better than the one he performed at UCLA. That one connected with the audience a lot more but this one is what caught my attention in the first place, and this one still does.

  • I love this video. My language arts teacher showed this to me in class.

People need to realize that all humans are equal. No one race is better than the other. But people also need to realize that white people aren't the only ones who can be racist. At my school, mostly everybody is African American and they judge me because of what my ancestors did to their ancestors. What happened in the past is, well, the past.

  • exactly girl, u hit it dead on. i'm sorry about the school thing. BTW i am african american

  • Exactly, that has been my thoughts for a very long time.

  • <3 it =)

  • Here's a good question; why is it that all the time, anti-racism is always against white racism, and never pays attention to the REAL racial problems caused by blacks all the time? I was called racist in middle shcool just for standing there, I didn't do shit, I was minidng my own fucking business and got my ass kicked by black people. It's like us whites have no choice BUT racism.

  • you're right though.

  • Racism goes both ways, and there is about just as much racism to blacks as there is blacks to whites. However the reason why it usually focuses on racism against non-whites is because HISTORICALLY it has been the whites who have slaughtered and oppressed other cultures and races(same goes with sexism).

As for the middle school thing. Those are middle school kids, they are just stupid and will come up with anything to call you, and stuff. I was called a rapist when I was 10 so ya you get it.

  • that was beautiful.

  • WORDD.

  • what the hell, why should accent even FUCKING matter. This poem is great!

  • I went to high school with Adriel, and I have to let people know that in our city hip hop culture is HUGE. White, black, asian, latino, whatever--talking with a "black accent" (whatever the hell that is, but what many people have coined his accent) is nothing strange or seen as racist.I know that Adriel is not trying to rip off a culture, piss off a culture, or mock anybody. He honest to God loves what he does and puts 100% of himself into it.

  • Ethnic pride and remembering your heritage is...

    well pointless(:

  • remembering where you come from and what you are is pointless, you say? get your priorities straight, fucker.

  • this should so be featured

  • and you are the only person who didn't get what this video is about...

  • yea but that dosent answer my question..

  • Because you're too stupid to understand the meaning of the video.

  • wow you must be really ignorant. dont think rap only relates to black people. and for your question, he doesnt "talk" like he's black, he talks the way he wants to talk. theres a certain extent when you can tell that somebody is trying to talk like their black. but this guy talks way far from it. you dont hear him saying "nigga" or anything like that. you dont hear him trying to sound hella hard and raw. he talks the way he learned how to talk.

  • lol are you serious??! he is obviously trying to talk like an african american. its prety pathetic and hypocritical considering the meaning of his poem.

  • Pathetic? *laughs* Its pathetic that you disregard the very meaning of his words since you are just representing the close-minded, judgemental, stereotypical, and ignorant people that this video seems to be against. Especially by labeling the way her personifies his words as being "African american" which reveals your own negativity towards those who you consider "posers" even though you obviously cannot distiguish what you see from reality.

  • What does an African American sound like exactly? I always thought that people have accents based on where they live and not the color of their skin. That was very judgmental of you. And, what's really sad is that this poem was about not judging people based on their skin color...you missed the whole point of the poem. That is sad.

  • just shut up already. its done. Your question was just plain stupid. hoykuneho, LilMsDiva4u, and bryantphan just answered your question.

  • exactly. And he've got style I say :D

  • To answer this pathetic question...the style of poetry is called performance poetry or slam poetry. The rythms are different. You can listen to any slam poet and hear similarities. It's not a "black" thing. Furthermore, there's no such thing as "talking black"--finally, the poet has what sounds like an NY accent, not a "black accent"

  • Yes! That is what I'm talking about. There is no such thing as "talking black" or have a "black accent." It's all about how you play with words in my opinion.

  • Where did you get that idea?

If most people are like "there is no such thing as a

'black accent'" then I don't know where you got that idea from. All I'm saying is, you can't link 2 races together unless they actually says it.

  • Check out my video- Black police officer assaults a white skateboarder

  • That was awesome! white people really don't know how the rest of us feel

  • Some really do

  • they sympathize, but I think it would be really hard to place your self in a situation regarding ethnic beauty

  • I've unwillingly placed myself in a situation regarding complete social rejection, not only with diffrent ethnic groups, but human society in general.

  • I can't say I've had social rejection with ethnic groups and stuff, but I've been socially rejected completely from human society when I was in middle school. People are accepting me now that I'm in high school, but I had become depressed and I'm pretty much the guy that sits at the back of the class and doesn't get noticed. Although I'm trying to reach out more now.

  • THAT"S RACIST!

But for your comment, it is impossible to know how those kinds of situations feel unless you yourself were in those situations, which may have/is happening although probably on extremely small scales. This counts for many scenarios.

  • this video makes me think about racism a lot

  • Ok, Im going to proove to some racist neo-nazis, that not all black people are racist. All black people who are not racist: go to my profile and type 'I'

  • damn that was a good video

  • you go girl! woo..

  • Oh my goooooooooodness - that video is SO good! I mean I'm here feeling like tears could come. Beautiful.

Check out my films dude - think you might like them.

for a minute. This video and the jam packed creativity,

makes me feel like an unburdened parent. Thanks!

  • DAMN STRAIGHT. terrific

  • DAMN, thats exactly what i am learning in my leadership class. That was so cool.

  • Wait, You are talking about how she is trying to be real by not being white, but you're trying to act black? You are trying to "imitate" and you are being a phony. You don't even have pride in yourself, you have to copy somebody else.

  • He isn't copying anybody. His rapping is not generic and one race doesn't own a style of music. He is talking abotu satying true to your roots. What so do caucasians own rock, classical and pop music? So I guess asians can't perform any of these? He is not a phony. He is amazing and his lyrics are great!

  • I didn't think he tried to talk like he is black. Why do you think that?

  • wow... just WOW

  • I have a dream...

  • lolz but this stuff war real. we need more of this shit.

  • wow...

  • I love this.

  • mmmm, i love this.

    I've always felt like this.

  • Whoa. This is so true. I love it!

  • I've already commented on this but what the hey. I have this as a favourite. Its nothing short of amazing! He gets across such a relevant message in such a direct way that leaves you thinking.

  • *my mouth drops*

    CRAZY.. MADDD KNOWLEDGE!!

    props!

  • So uh, what does European/American government have to do with race?

  • it's not about race... it's about how the european and american media portray how women/women of color are "supposed" to look like.. like... giving them a "guideline" to follow just to look beautiful or what they say is beautiful.

  • I love it.

  • I first saw this video months ago, and it still keeps its relevency. F A V O R I T E. My communication technology techer would love you for this.

  • Right On! I am of color too so I know first-hand how garbage can leak into your subconscious and distort one's self-image. When you don't see enough raw images of people who resemble yourself (outside of your biological family), you began to question your God-given features. May sound insane to those who can't relate, but it's real. Bravo, to the people who put this together!!!

  • That was freakin awesome.

  • right on.

  • Excellent!

  • I absolutely loved this! What an amazingly brilliant work of performance art. Such a deep poem.. a definate favorite! =)

  • Wow, that was deep. Thanks for sharing this. It's cool on so many levels, I'm listening to it again....

  • This is the arrogance and fear typical of those who percieve themselves to be 'white victims'. There aren't any less of you, just more of others. The media focuses on you because there are still so many clueless people like you in the world spouting and believing this utter nonsense. Are you really so arrogant and ignorant to think that white races are the creators of all things technological.

  • Are you dumb enough to think that every civilation has white founders? Repaid?!?! No one owes you a DAMN THING. You and every other person on this planet OWE IT TO EACH OTHER to be decent human beings. We are doomed to failure if backwards thinking like yours isn't stamped out. You really need to wake up and stop deluding yourself.

  • One word: Colonization. We may have given advanced technology and such, but we stamped out millions of people on the way to it. Religion suffered, people died and Africa is for the most part the way it is because white people thought that they were all knowing. It wasn't just whites though. The disappearance and suppression of indigenous people is a problem in a lot of countries. Whites aren't the only ones who came up with scientific explanations either. Try not to generalize.

  • Yet your paragraph is full of generalizations, i think secret societies and mad rich elites are to blame. Look at mass immigration they want rampant miscengenation of the common white person with non-whites.

  • Are you serious? Go back to the era of t
