what if...ive taken to a bike shop to try to remove it but they couldnt because it was on their too tight? what are my next options? ...grinder? ...??
as crazy as it sounds im trying to convert my trek mountain bike into a single speed, are there different speeds you can have for a single speed ? and what speed is that typically in ?
if you are building a fixie, you can't just put it on there. the safest way is to just buy a wheel. there is however, the Suicide Hub. If you don't mind welding, using LocTite or JB Weld, then go right ahead. Just be very cautious.
Usually on a fixie wheelset the fixed cog side will be different to the freewheel side.
The freewheel side can be left empty or used with a single freewheel cassette.
Some help. What is the tool called used for the freewheel removal? I use fixed side only and the freewheel side rattles on rough roads so i want to get rid of it. The 2 prong thing.... Thanks
i found a cannondale frame that im converting into a fixie, but after removing the freewheel/cassette, how to make it "Fixed"?? so it wont freely spin "counter clockwise".
if anyone is trying to make a fixed gear bike with a freewheel hub it would go on but its not recommended thats what people call a suicide hub because the threads are not made for that and the fixie cog will thread off and if its at the wrong time and place you can get hurt!!!!!
@joey7288 good comment... supper important for people riding conversions... get yourself a real fixed gear back rim! i learned that sliding downhill when my cog slipped... i had to tighten it the best could with the tips of my fingers and ride home at a steady pace,,,
1972 Schwinn Le Tour. Chain and free wheel are pompletely rusted. Replaced chain, inner tubes, Rim tape, tread, bar tape (or wrap,) and re-greased all ball berrings in all parts.
trying to take off the cassette to make a fixie. can I use one of the same cogs to make it a fixed gear. thanks. PLZ REPLY TO MY EMAIL jossemangel@yahoo.com
awesome vids friend ! im got an old ccm speed bike totally original. (70s model) just needs new cables. got it out of a dumpster. i cant wait to get crusin on it. i also got a ccm mountain bike which i use for transportation everywhere i go. im thinking about experimenting with building a tricycle. also considering motorizing it. not sure on that yet. i subscribe ! great job on the vids!
@ratrodschwinnmesa is there any way you can put one of the cogs or rear chain ring things (the size desired) back on the freewheel hub? to just make it a regular freewheel singlespeed? because i have one of those old 80's rims too and i want to change the rear hub to just a single sprocket or whatever its called free wheel...
Hey man can you take off the extra gears on that?

In the real world, freewheels that have been on since 1984 don't come off that easily.

im planning to turn my dads old motobecane in to a fixie sometimes in the near future :D
sofakartafla 1 year ago
you cannot make a fixie with those same tthreads unless you jb weld the cog....
track hubs have threads going the opposite way so the lockring wont come off with the cog.
muzikfreek15 1 year ago
I'm guessing it means 'fixed gear' . No freewheeling. Single gear style, like most 20inch bikes.

Hey i have a schwinn can i turn that into a fixie..?
nomer750 1 year ago
@nomer750 probably not without a new rear wheel hub (fixie specific)
random123outburst 1 year ago
@nomer750 you can turn any bike with horizontal dropouts into a pretty decent fixie. Older Schwinns work well.
