The piano technique used it awful to be honest - too much smashing. The actual orchestrated aria (for two orchestras) is light, soft, and detached, and none of this driven-in technique. The pianist also makes a lot of playing errors which are detracting. The first sopranist is fine, but the second sopranist does not have any confidence at all, and sings rather sharply.
Sorry if I seem a bit cruel, but I don't believe this is really played to it's intended performance type.
And, actually, the sopranos you are hearing were teached by one of the sopranos of the L'Orfeo with Savall that you liked so much.. so... it's all good. :-)
