Hi did you ever find out what was causing this noise because right now i am having the same thing happening. It is starting to make me go crazy so if you could write me back with what you found out that would be great.
Yep! It was a loose belt in the belt drive line, and a bad tensioner. Some idiot put belt dressing all over my belt drive, so i had to take brake cleaner and scrub all of the pullies with a wire brush. I then replaced the tensioner with an OEM hydraulic one from ECStuning, and also got a new belt.
If you have the e36 m3, you will need to purchase an updated offset pulley for the new tensioner, or else it wont keep tension on the belt. You can also purchase a 1 inch smaller belt
sounds like the clutch is not wanting to engage when slowly releasing off the clutch. not sure i'd have to look at it more but my s10 did the same thing until i put a new clutch in it when servicing my transmission. it could be several other miner things so don't trip about it but it may be the tranny mounts under the car. because when you engage the clutch then release the transmission will twist making a rattling sound.
I don't think it's the clutch. If it was a clutch problem, wouldn't it slip at low rpm's? Transmissions mounts could be the issue. But I'm going to hold off on any work until I get it professionally diagnosed on Thursday. Wish me luck. :D
Hey man i have somewhat of a similar sound. I believe its coming from the power steering. Could be that their is air caught in the system and needs to be bled. The air causes the pump to work very hard and thus makes squeaking/squealing noises. The reservoir is located right under the intake boot. Take the cap off and start the vehicle and turn the wheel one side to the other and hold about 8 times or so. Hope this helps. It prob happens w/ the clutch because it adds an extra load on the engine,
best bet take it in i had a noise like that though t it was somthing random turned out it was my timing belt and if your timing belt breaks that could make this alot more spendy of a fix take it in to be safe =)
I had the same problem with a loose belt and bad tensioner. Fixed that and the car runs awesome again.
