The communist did listen to the Vietnamese and thus they went communist. The real tragedy was the lose of life. The vietnames lost roughly one third of thier population. The American objective was not to win but rather keep the economy going. Remember war is good for the economy. To make matter worse the US soldiers were treated like shit when they came home by there own counrty men. No one won that war. It sucked from the beginning to the end. Oh PS France just walked out and the US was stuck
@crackerboxrecords France was in the First Indochinese war which is where they lost vietnam as a colony but they did have american assistance (900 men(?)), the Vietnam war that was fully arseholed by the Americans was a year later when the Communist north tried bringing down the South by supporting uprisings. The communist did listen to the Vietnamese and thus they went communist. The real tragedy was the lose of life. The vietnames lost roughly one third of thier population. The American objective was not to win but rather keep the economy going. Remember war is good for the economy. To make matter worse the US soldiers were treated like shit when they came home by there own counrty men. No one won that war. It sucked from the beginning to the end. Oh PS France just walked out and the US was stuck

@crackerboxrecords France was in the First Indochinese war which is where they lost vietnam as a colony but they did have american assistance (900 men(?)), the Vietnam war that was fully arseholed by the Americans was a year later when the Communist north tried bringing down the South by supporting uprisings. Thats what I remember anyway you might be right just wanted to put my knowledge to it :)

Understand the times The united States ended up in this war to assist France. The fear was that if France fell it would turn communist. You know red fears. Vietnam was a French cow so the US wanted to restore it to the French. The vietnamese were upset ecause they assist the allies against the Japanese. They thought they won their freedom. Instead they were repressed again. They originally fashioned a constitution after that of the US. They tried to get the allies attention to no avail.
