  • That is one sweeeet sounding bass. Nicely done!

  • horrible

  • Wish I had a smidgen of your talent, I'd be a happier musican.....I like your natural feel for the timing 'n' the groove.

  • Did I hear some Stanley Clarke in there?

  • Seems to be a lot of Iron Maiden influence in the beginning of that tune

  • Gostei do vídeo....octave....

  • Who on earth would dislike this video? I don't get what there is to dislike...

  • un azco el sonido y el instrumento

  • RIP man.

  • how much was one of these

  • what is luthier?

  • @ItsThatToolGuy makes guitars and basses and all that shit i think

  • ooohhh darkstars

  • Laying down a really funky groove there! That 8-string has such a full and rich sound, but not too full that it sounds cluttered and muddy. I'd like to get an 8-string bass as my next music-related purchase.

  • R.I.P

  • I know it isn't but the bass kinda looks like the peavey T-40

  • RIP David...you are still missed.

  • what did he die from?

  • awesome bass playing and cool bass

  • RIP david!

  • Very sorry to hear this. RIP.

  • rest in peace bros (R.I.P)

  • Are the other 4 strings the G,D,A,E strings of a guitar?

  • I am so sorry to hear of your passing, just a week before you passed on, I was seriously considering ordering this bass, just for the unique idea and amazing sound....R.I.P.

  • He's dead, why are you adressing him?

    And yes, he was good.

  • I don't know why I wrote it that way. Huh...

  • because it shows respect

  • Shit no! mY condolences to all who knew this hell of a guy personally

  • RIP

  • rip

  • David was an amazing Luthier and Bassist... I will Miss you cousin!!! R.I.P David Minnieweather

  • RIP. his work inspired a lot of things about my current builds. truly a very sad day. i don't know what else to say..... RIP

  • Rest In Peace David!

  • sweet darkstar pickups :D

  • If that eight string had stereo outputs, it wouldnt be that bad....its ont bad now but that would set it off.

  • is the bass very small or you have giant hands?

  • i say, if you want a bass with that 8-string octave sound, just get a four string and a whammy pedal set to one octave up

  • This is one of the nicest sound of a Bass that I EVER heard !

Its a bit better than the sound of a Hagstrom HB-8

    GREAT VIDEO!!!

  • great sound dude! keep up the great work!best...

  • great octave sounding stuff bro absolutely love that

  • Sweet.

  • Memory serves.

  • awesome.

    nice sustain!

  • i love the sound of the dark stars

  • i have an 8 string too and i think its got some of the sickest sounds. unfortunantyl one of my higher octave strings snapped when i was trying to give it this funky tuning and i have no idea where to get a set of 8 strings

  • You could probably just replace it with a regular guitar string.

I'm not sure if you can just buy one string, though.

  • Some companies do sell single strings but it's ultimately cheaper to buy a set, plus you have extra strings and some different gauges to work with.

  • radioshack has them

  • great playn

  • That is a really good looking bass guitar. Very cool

  • Very nice, looks like a comfortable bass to play, good looking and sounds cool too.

  • :29 sounds like spain by chick corea

  • All black people are automatically good at music. Amazing.

  • lol , reminds me of south park !

  • imagine how that would sound with a piezo bridge! Currently making an 8 string semi-hollowbody bass in woodshop class. hope it is half as good as this beast!!

  • The piezo would be a killer, for sure...

  • Awesome! But what's this thing tuned to?

  • its tuned the same as normal, but after every bass string there's a normal electric guitar string, thats 1 octave higher.

  • The heck with all the fx boxes.the more you go from axe to amp the better.let your talent do the talking. Not the toys.

  • what if your talent is the noise you make with the toys?

  • Good demonstration!

  • Couldn't you get an octaver thing to get the same sound?

  • Hehe. Probably.

  • It wouldn't be perfect, but you could get close enough for no one to tell the difference.

  • Yeah, but I'd rather pay $100 to get an octaver than $400+ for a new bass.

  • Same here.

  • i strung my bass as a piccolo and used an octave pedal and it didnt work as well as you might think, most octavers dont track that well, and you cant play chords and drone stuff which would sound wicked cool with an actual 8. But i suppose it worked ok.

  • imagine a 8 string bass on an octive peddle

  • I was at the local music store, and I managed to get a 3 octave sound out of an 8 string bass. I split the signal with a pre-amp, and sent one to an octave pedal that dropped it an octave, and the other to a whammy pedal, and put that up an octave, and I ran the two outputs to 2 different amps. yea...it sounded fucking wicked!!!! lol.

    Joseph.

  • Octavers have a problem with chords... they just don't like em at all and start wavering, turning on and off and generally malfunctioning.

  • hmm. How did a body design like that get out of the design pad phase?!

  • sounds really good, but how would you apply a 8+ string bass to any other music other than solos and funk or jazz? I'd kinda like to use one, but I'm not sure how well it'd sound with metal or rock.

  • think Rush, how sick would an 8 string be? metal, you could try some distortion for a fatter rhythm (maybe have one distorted line and mix it with a clean line to preserve the bass) or just dont hit/remove the E and A harmony strings. for rock it would totally be worth it

  • way more rock players use 8 and 12 string basses than guys who play jazz or funk.

  • that was a beauty of a bass, 8 string are flippin' sweet (and expensive).

  • that is such a nice bass,

i gotta go clean my underwear its so nice.

    i just pissed myself

  • wow! that's easy to play!

  • dam dude the shit a7 0.40 to 1.05 was sick shit

  • Hey I went downstairs in the studio and played that groove as soon as I heard it...lmao..That mite be the grooviest simple groove ever!!!!...David you are the shit....

  • 0:48-1:05 was sick sounding

  • now THAT was cool

  • ah man nice job but ver funky body digging the sound aswell keep it up man

  • cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

    cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool t e a c h m e

  • i'd love to hear a fretless version too

  • no shit that tone lol. great riff, gorgeous tone, beautiful bass. i'd LOVE one of my own.

  • Anything Is Possible. A 12 string Bass would be a very Custom job.

  • paul gilbert 12/12

    search it

  • That's a hot sound!

  • I would love to be a luthier, particularly making basses. Any suggestions on how I could get started? Message me please!

    -Joey

  • Start off by looking at Roscoe Basses and a few other luthier videos right here in YouTube. If you still want to do this, take some woodworking classes at school then take a bass or guitar building class if available. Start a parts bass project or practice fixing up a very inexpensive bass. Level the frets, do a setup job or just upgrade Pups and EQ. Then try to duplicate a bass with inexpensive wood/parts. This will take some cash but you will gain experience. Hope this helps.

  • Thank you very much my friend!

  • nice. really liking the dark stars. can u slap or use a pick on a 8 string?

  • The setup is more for finger-style but Yes. Just stay away from the pickups and don't dig in too much when slapping.
