Sounds sick man. I have a SG standard in which I vintaged out. How would those pups sound in it?? I have an old set of 57' classics in now and they sound great. But dam, those thro baks are sick.........
Those Pickups sound nice but don´t have much low end. At first you don´t heart because you paly well. But plugging my own TOKAI MIJ LP and playing along if was clear to me than the low end is week..
Hey, Let it Rain is supposed to be played on Strat..lol! The Throbacks sound great. I too broke down & ordered me a set of the 101's. Nice Playing Sky!
You read my mind on turning the reverb down. What is it with people running new hardware through effects?! Haha.
Sounded great dude, thanks for posting. It's great having someone with a bluesy touch testing guitar stuff. Have you tried the Luxe Bumblebee caps? Couldn't find a video online. Thanks again dude.
I really liked the sound you got out of that neck pickup. I replaced 57's with Timbuckers in my 98' LP Elegant. The Timbuckers sounded much better, especially thru my blackface vibroverb compared to my Aiken Sabre(Marshall type amp),but that neck pickup still sounds muddy. My buddy played his original '59 thru the Aiken and his neck pickup sounded great-maybe I should check these out. Have you ever played Timbuckers?
I think these sound and feel more like real PAF's than most others I have tried. I liked the Skatterbranes...but they're a little softer sounding...at least his alnico 2 versions. These were wound on the same machines as PAFs!!!
I tried the Scatterbranes. They weren't bad but these new pickups seem to sound like they don't bloom. It could be the reverb on the amp. Are these made by the machine that Seymour Duncan had. He bought the original PAF machine. That's what the Duncans are wound on. There's a video here on youtube. Great playing . Like to hear more from you.
jon gundry for president. great tone dan, as always, and the way the chords sound on these is incredible. and these are nice for those of us who cant afford the pafs or patent numbers on the occasion a real set shows up.
Hey Trina!! Thanks. I like the way they feel too!! They wont make your guitar perform back flips, but if you want a clear sweet pickup with good sizzle and harmonics...these are real nice!!!
.hmm...well, it's not my R9....it's my R8, that may be part of it. I'm using the DR and maybe I should have put the camera on an angle because its mic tends to compress a little?
Why would you want to change the pups in a R8?

I thought LP R8 feature a plain top ?
Would you please give an idea about the price of these pickups ?
jp6l6 2 years ago
@jp6l6 No. It depends on what year the R8 was made. Some R8's from '01 and '02 were flametops.
The pickups were about $350 I think. It's on Jon's website. Google throbak pickups.

Those are the nicest sounding PAF clones I think i've heard. Wow!

are PAFs stock in the 1958 vos les paul standard?
OhYeah729 3 years ago
Real PAF's only came in vintage 50's and 60's Gibsons. The new Historic reissues come with burstbuckers...which are copies of PAF's.

Which one are according to you the best PAF-style pickups? This ones or the skatterbanes? Or maybe other PUs?
Cheers
