Dat's a great projec' yinz made up 'ere. I live aht Vegas now, and it's always nice ta hear from da burgh. Yinz yard apes keep studyin and make su-um a yerselves!
Growing up, and even going to college (in state) I thought that where I grew up we spoke perfect English. It wasn't until I moved to the South that I realized that I spoke diffrently. Once I realized that do you think I adjusted my way of talkin? No. Because it is where I am from. I'm proud of Pittsburgh and the way I speak, even if it is not in Pittsburgh, it is my identity and the people here where I live have come to accept it and love it,
yinz and youz come from scotland...thats why theres an H on the end of Pittsburgh, thats how scottish people spell it and they also pronounce it BURRA...should be Pittsburra but......daht sahndz a lil queer so we cahl DA BUUURRRG
Excellent project! I live here in the 'burgh and I went to the state of Indiana a few years back and myself and a few friends were in a grocery store at the deli. I looked at my one friend and said watch this. The lady asked can I help you, I said yeah yinz guys got any chipped ham an'nat? She looked at me and said you must be from Pittsburgh, I replied yes I am and she said my sister lives in Irwin, good stuff.
I will move back one of these days...it's where I grew up and it will always be my home. This is reporting at its best! When I go home to my family during the holidays, you can't help but soak in the Pittsburghese with friends.
