I love how a person can make such stupid comments about scientific facts when he has no scientific knowledge "What So Ever!" It's time to get these "Bible Thumping" Fools out of our education before they destroy the minds of our kids and send us back to the Bronze Age Bullshit.
Man Mad god, Not, god Made Man - This is further proof that religion and belief in Bronze Age gods Destroys Brain Cells...
"Governor Perry reappointed McLeroy, an advocate of creationism, as Chairman to a second term to last until February 1, 2011, but on May 28, 2009, the Texas Senate rejected the re-appointment by a vote of 19-11, failing to gain the necessary 2/3 majority for approval. "
never mind this thousand page book written by the doctor, read my "standard". in 50 years our children and grandchildren will be punching out plastic dogshit coated with lead paint for our master's kids living in CHINA. we'll have "god" to tell us we're better then them but we wont be inventing anything, we wont be discovering anything, we wont be doing any pure research. meanwhile china/india will be exploring the solar system. we're fucked.
@4thDimensionFilms the theory of evolution has been under a "virtual" teaching ban for the past 50 years ALREADY.
the religious right want our kids to go to a "public school" where EVERY SUBJECT is fused with THEIR theology. this episode is a small battle in a very large culture war. the long term implications are serious. mcelroy is correct in assuming that if he can fundamentaly change the way "science" is taught...? they can change the way "everything" is taught.
@MpowerdAPE Still, religious fanatics that want evolution banned dont account for an overwhelming percentage of America. even if they had there way at what's being taught, it doesnt mean theyll dissolve NASA and outlaw college research.
@4thDimensionFilms *FACEPALM* they may not "account for an overwhelming % of america" but they sure as HELL had their voices heard for the past 50 years. evolution has been "undertreated" and "under taught the entire time, in case you didnt notice. DONT YOU UNDERSTAND?!?! if they can effect the way high school is taught at a level so "fundamental" as evolution/science...? THERE ARE NO LIMITS, NONE. first its science.. then history, then english...etc etc.
@MpowerdAPE No way. I can see them taking things out of science text books that undermine the bible, but theres still about 50% of America that doesnt do that. Theres barely any religous fanatics willing to take education reform to that level where public school = bible study. And theres way too many people in America to not allow such radical reform to ever happen.
@4thDimensionFilms it sounds as if you do not care about the 50% of kids that will not be learning evolution as it is correctly. That is not fair to those kids that could possibly be less likely to get into a college and learn these important facts on evolution just so this McElroy (Dentist) and his buddy Cynthia Dunbar (Lawyer) can remain in these positions. Also, you are not taking into account that the state of Texas makes many textbooks (because of populus) for many other states.
@cmsalvagio Public school is relatively secular in spite of the teaching of evolution. People don't want school to be entirely based on relgion, (some do) but for the most part, they only want to see evolution out of the curiculum. I'm not convinced that this is a stepping stone to banning everything that science as achieved.
@4thDimensionFilms In the case of Louisiana it has stirred many problems as teachers have not taught subjects like evolution because of fear of retribution from teaching a controversial subject. I think you would agree with me that only the children lose in this case. Despite, whether or not it is a stepping stone there is no compromise when it comes to politics and educating children. I am glad we can disagree and have a discourse without being dicks per usual convos on utube.
@cmsalvagio Well first of all, I'm a mature, smart guy. I don't see any point in insulting people in a conversation. Im also pretty secular, I strongly beleive in seperation of church and state. The main point I was trying to make was that your first comment that started this conversation was an unrealistic stretch.
The context of these and numerous other flagrant misquotations read into the record by Mr McLeroy can be found on the page "Collapse of a Texas Quote Mine". Pardon the naivety, but how can creationists use such tactics in good conscience? Isn't knowingly misrepresenting an author's position DISHONEST? And isn't bearing false witness prohibited by one of the Ten Commandments? How can creationists reconcile this practice with their faith?
He wants to ask the question how did this sudden appearance in the stasis?
#1 stasis wasn't sudden it happened over a long time
#2 groups in the fossil record, are fossils. only 1 in a million dead animals actually becomes a fossil. So he wants 10,000,000,000 fossils to represent one single organism's evolutionary process and he'll say it's still not enough I want to see this turn into that and you'll need 10,000,000,000,000,000,000 diagrams and it still won't be enough for him. MORON
Great, just bloody great. How the hell did this IDiot find his way to this position? It troubles me greatly that even when exposed of his ignorance, the fine bible thumping, god fearing citizens of Texas will gladly vote to keep this creationist IDiot on the top seat of the board. If there is a way to pluck this pompous, pious, peckerhead from his lofty perch, lets hear the strategy. Anyone?
Stasis does NOT disprove evolution. When an organism adapts to it's environment so well that further change is unnecessary a state if equilibrium is attained. Sharks did much the same, much more recently. This idiot uses no common sense and has not studied the subject beyond Biology 101! Common markers throughout the genomes from the earliest bacteria on through to the newest species discovered, all point to common ancestry and display the path all life took to get where it is today.
I am so glad that I do not live in America.
Creationism is an intellectual cancer in America, and quite paradoxically, in the Islamic world.

If he believes the earth is around 6000 years why is he talking about fossils? In fact we does he drive a car and use fossil fuel?

Authoritarian compartmentalization. Read "The Authoritarians" by professor Bob Altemeyer. Available free online. Tells you exactly how this happens.

It's beyond dishonest, it's bloody weak.
But it's all they can do in terms of fundamental research!
The discovery institute is only a quote-mining startup as I call it.
They also mine for "anomalous" facts as a secondary research.
