  • BEAUTIFUL. What else can I say.

  • I never knew the words. Now I know why this nice song is used in The Godfather. It's the perfect tune for the incongruity of Mafia life

  • I love the slower tempo and her melancholy delivery, so unusual for Sissel. This is by far the most beautiful rendition of this aria that I have heard. I cannot believe some of the comments - the opera snobs are back in full force. All that crap about microphones. One of the reasons that Sissel's voice is so wonderful is that she always uses a microphone so that she can sing at a NORMAL level, which captures the sweetness and richness of that wonderful voice. BRAVA !

  • My legs and ears have just melted. Typing this as body just cannot take this most beautiful of voices. Not many pieces bring me to tears - but she has. Amazing. Thank you for posting this.

  • When she is singing her impressions do not show a lot of feelings, but her sound carries a lot of feelings.

  • She is good!

  • I don't know why she sang this in such a somber mood. The opera is, after all, a COMEDY, and this piece is also comedic. She did manage to get into the spirit of the aria in another posting of her doing this piece here on YouTube. For the real essence of how it is played on-stage, check out Renata Scotto performing it, also here on YouTube.

  • Wow. I wish I could say it better than that but words fail to express how beautiful this is. Thanks for posting it.

  • jackie evancho is better .:). she is goood but jackie is better. adn jackie is 10.

  • jackie evancho is better .:).

  • Wow...the way she just floats up to those Ab's (especially the first one)... Stunning.

  • It's been a year since I made my last comment, and my opinion hasn't changed. The slowness enables the longest, most poignant notes, which she holds to their completion. Exquisite, transcendent, heavenly.

  • @tissetatten, lack of mic is always a sign of bad quality. Without mic while audience is further away than five meters, the singer must ruin the fine nuance of her voice by adding power so that everybody can listen well.

  • @Vocalallusive what lack of mic?.....don't you see it?.....this is not bad quality although I will say it is pretty unexciting dramatically. Opera on the popstage does not do it justice.

  • @NordicSanger, maybe you should understand the text you reply to before replying?

btw, no scenery can justify any music performance. Close your eyes if you have to.

  • @Idol2011no .... o come on ...your comment makes absolutely no sense in response to my comment...You must have the wrong comment......I am an opera singer and KNOW this piece. Opera on the 'pop stage does not do it justice. and this performance is downright unexciting.

  • @NordicSanger, let me clarify. You obviously need it. It started by a comment from me to "tissetassen" where I pointed out that lack of mic in the hands of a opera singer is always a sign of bad quality, motivated by the fact that a high volume voice can never produce the dynamics and nuances. This reply was motivated by a claim from "tissetassen" that a good opera singer would loose the mic, while it being quite the opposite.

Then you come along with the moronic reply "what lack of mic?"

  • @Idol2011no Whatever. "Always"...."Never" ......really...I repeat...."This performance is pretty unexciting dramatically."

  • @NordicSanger, so you are not to pardon for your misplaced reply directed to me?

  • @Idol2011no Being argmentative doesn't make you more intelligent or necessarily correct.(as evidenced by several other comments at various videos)" I pointed out that lack of mic in the hands of a opera singer is always a sign of bad quality,".....Well the mic is not in her hands but it doesn't have to be when it is only inches away,so there was no lack of mic.and her quality was not bad, but simply unexciting. No mic will change that.....I will waste no more time with you.....

  • @NordicSanger, Now I understand you're not the sharpest knife in the tray and I don't care for further explanation. Bye.

  • one word...beautiful..

  • Please tell me this is on DVD or CD!

  • Krásný hlas, úžasný cit- to je úžasná Sissel!!! Díky za krásné zážitky

  • Sissel will be touring in Norway from November to December this year, and then in Sweden from January to March next year. If you can, go to one these concerts. Sissel will perform new songs from her new album TO YOU, and also some of her greatest hits.

  • very good voice, but not so powerful.... and i think she's not a very good actress. bit boring...

  • Is this available on DVD?

  • The clever photography makes the most of her attractive face and lips and this, coupled with a lovely voice, contributes to the impact of this a marvellous rendition but I think that it would an exaggeration to elevate this too high: Victoria de Los Angeles (amongst others) has some staggering good versions to listen to. But Sissel's version is better than some current sopranos. A soprano called Dorothy Kirsten was also, like Sissel, able to successfully move between different types of music.

  • How lovely. She makes the aria very personal by drawing the listener in with her eyes, as if she were singing to you..

  • Thanks for posting this video.

  • As a boy i dont know if i should say this or not

    But i think...

    1. am in LOVE

    2. everything about it absolutely everything was extraordinary

    3. i am officially speechless

    Just Magnificent !!!!!!!!!!

  • The nine people that voted this down i feel sorry for you if you can't appreciate this.

  • i love this is song...you are beautiful..

  • Fantastic

  • Goosebumps and tears. Thank you.

  • Enchanting....!!!!! Thank you!

  • This is my favourite operatic song I have ever heard!!! There is so much emotion portrayed through the lyrics and the freedom in which it can be acted. Very BEAUTIFUL <3 xx

  • WOW! Her voice is indeed thrilling and full of emotion. She has great depth, phrasing and her pronouncation is very distinguished. There are not many who can sing like Sissel, her voice is the most wonderful voice a human being can hear today. This is the most beautiful version I have ever heard in my whole life

  • I have heard many versions of this, and never heard it at this slow tempo, but it is VERY effective. Plus since starting to study Italian after many years, the diction makes it very easy to understand. Capisco facilmente! Grazie!

Since I am not a professional singer, would it take a lot of control to sing it at that slow tempo? Any experts available to answer this?

Why didn't I become a Singer instead of Violinist?? How glamorous!

  • @jtrstrings Depends it much easier some notes others are harder to sustain, this tempo suits the drama of the aria, I wonder if she picked this key because she was feeling tired she usually sings this higher

  • @jtrstrings, when you first have learnt how to sing with as little air as possible it's not harder to sing slow. In fact, it's easier. I think the other version of hers is more developed.

  • es una voz de CRISTAL.

  • Abeautiful voice and lovely demeaner. The tempo is very slow however and i find that a bit distracting. Certainly a voice to follow. shirleysvoice

  • The slow pace allows her to use her very attractive face and wonderful eye contact to entice and fix the observer. This is presumably very deliberate, and I believe very successful. Coupled with a clear soprano voice, this is a unique and wonderful rendition. Gosh she's good.

  • impressive...!

  • She is beautiful - a stunning rendition!

  • A big too slow, She has the right voice, sweet childish and SHE RESPECTS the Puccini dynamic. Good may be oratorio could be her best.

  • @joanabanyeres couldnt agree more... really love her eyes as she sings ... so fantastic...

  • Lovely. Thank you.

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • beautiful voice, not necessarily an operatic voice, but gorgeous none the less.

  • In my opinion, she is as good as Maria Callas.

  • @heihachiable I agree with you very much.

  • @SisselFanForever if you agree then you to clearly dont know anything about opera. This is pretty, and eazy. Opera takes effort, there is no michrophone.

  • @heihachiable hahahahahahaha

    then you dont know mutch

  • @heihachiable I think Sissel is better.

  • Gorgeous voice, but holy frick it was soo slow.

But still...amazing lyrical connection, clear as a bell and just generally quite beautiful.

  • Sweet, beautiful, young voice. Maybe some day a great voice.

  • Beautifully done in a tender and introspective way

  • fantastic!!

  • Done very tenderly. And she's quite pretty as well.

  • 100000x better than Sarah Brightman...

  • Very kind of you uplaoding this vedio!

    Precious music,pure heart!

  • Soul Touching, Elegant, Beautiful, and in more simple terms, a tearjerker! what a voice, such spirit and bottomless emotion! A Beautiful piece of work!

  • How a human being hipinotizado cannot be for Sissel? She is wonderful! Tks for posting! Walter (Brazil)

  • SisselFanForever, One of my favorite operatic arias. Truly a brilliant performance by Sissel. This shining star of Norway & the entire international music community, was blessed with a voice that sings any genre of music, like a beautiful angel. Tusen takk, penny

  • I rated 5 STARS!

    I LOVE!

  • BEAUTIFUL. 5 *****

  • Sissel never fails to take my breath away! Thanks for a great post, Richard, and for sharing. I wish I had found her 15 years ago. May she have many years of continued success. —Tom

  • If ever an aria could bring tears to my eyes, it is this one... and I personally love the slowness - I think that it adds emotion and shows her skill and power through her vocal control.

  • Brava!

  • Her performance, as always, is exquisite, her voice quality flawless. She seems a bit more somber and sad here than in other video recordings of the same aria, and the tempo is slower.

    Regardless, it's lovely, lovely, lovely.

  • Yes, you`re so right. I think this is the best perfomance I have seen of Sissel singing this great aria. This is more melancolic, soft and sadder than in other versions here on YouTube. I love her long soft notes on this version.

  • The sound of HEAVEN.

    Regards to all.

  • Absolutely beautiful. Extraordinary talent. One would travel to Norway just to see her.

  • 素晴らしい

  • Christal clear beauty!

  • Tempo is slightly slow for me, but this is quibbling.

    Beautiful.

    Magnificent voice.

  • A piece of Heaven.

  • She is & sings Absolutely Beautiful

Wow, AWESOME VIdoe & thanks for sharing it
