Ronnie, Ronnie, Ronnie...didn't realize my comment would show up with my alias...so for any one wondering who ScarletteDeville is I am Marie Smith. We went to Park Cirlce Elem School together. You know how you always remember your first love...and Ronnie was mine.
Ronnie Garvin, we grew up together, elem school, he was my first boyfriend, so sweet....we were just kids back then 12 years old, he always loved playing guitar and said when he grew up he was gonna be in a band and travel around. I was so glad he got his dream & when The Stranger Band would come back to Charleston, he would have his sister call me & we would go see him together. I still cannot believe he is gone. He lives on in my heart & I will always love and miss him.
one of the highlights of my considerably misplaced rockdom is that i actually received the Wild Turkey bottle at a Gainesville show. Those of you that know, know what that means! :-)
Town lounge, mako`s,clancy`s,turtle club, animal house.....I never missed a show at any of these places....best damn time in a club you could ever have! R.I.P. RONNIE! We all miss the hell out of you!
Saw 'em open for UFO at the Civic in Albuquerque, Spring 82...last day of 8th grade!! I thought they really reminded me of Van Halen and I was a HALEN FANATIC so I bought their album the next day...kick ass, especially side 2...Tom Werman produced it, which is fucking cool.....
I was there right in the thick of this. I opened for these guys and made friends with Ronnie and Jan (guitar and FOH). Nobody in Florida could out rip Ronnie. The dude was always on and was always fresh. While everone else was playing Jacksons and BC Riches, Ronnie was playing a strat older and far more fucked up than SRVs Number One.
boy!! That brings back some memories !! Ive seen those guys MANY MANY times,, Fern Park Station rocked the house when they were there !! One of my favorite local bands at that time !!
OMG, this was one of my hubby's & my 1st dates. Surprised he stuck around after seeing my tongue hanging out over Ronny all night long. Guess I rocked his world later LMFAO, thanks for the video.
I feel ya...my god the stranger band was THE SHIT in florida.
I always thought they were the next Poison, except, they rock harder than Poison.
And that is actually why never hit it big...they spent more money on coke than brought in by performing...the true rock warriors, to the end...but they did it their way.
Was there for the "Romeo" days and later our weekends started with "Is Stranger in Town?"......if not , you had to go for low secondary level entertainment...
My first concert was them opening for Nazereth at the Lakeland civic center in Sept 82. Probably one of the high points of their career. Made a huge impression on me .Got stand right in front of Ronnie. To bad they got fucked over by there label & manager. They had momentum going back then but could'nt release there 2nd album till like 7 years after their first.
some genius had the foresight to shoot this vid that night at Turtle Club--they sound great. u could always count on these guys to make rock look easy. even tho could've sounded like "pop", ronnie's licks make it an irrestible party tune. thank God there's vid out there so people who never got the chance to see them can witness their magic. 3 incredibly in-synch musicians, and one unique vocalist=Fun Recipe
I always heard it was a Dimarzio PAF. He let me check out the Strat backstage at Main St. in Gainesville in 82'. It had very low action and I think he was using 8s at the time, very light gauge strings.
Ronnie really ripped on this riff. He was such a great guitar player and had that awsome rock n' roll guitar tone. Anybody know what pickups he used in the bridge of that old strat? I've heard he used a Duncan '59 and I read that he used a Dimarzio PAF somewhere online. Any players out there know?
I would like to thank Ronnie, Tom, Greg, and John Price for letting me sit in on the drums for my first live show on stage at studio 19 in clear water fla it was the best time in my life and I'v been playing the drums ever since. I played with boys about 15 times.
Ronny was one of the BEST undiscovered rock players in the country at that time, let alone Florida....Chops,funk, melodic, swampy, tasty...he HAD it...
Saw these guys back at the Agora Ballroom when they were Romeo! Without a doubt the best Florida band ever! Thanks so much for uploading these videos!

These guys were awesome. I saw them twice opening for Quite Riot and Molly Hatchet and they blew both those bands away.
