here's the story behind this. Batista was supposed to win the Rumble CLEARLY and him toppling over the rope while trying to do the batista bomb was a botch. with both raw and smackdown gms not being available to come out to fix the situation (long and bischoff), mcmahon made the executive decision to come out himself and rectify the issue (of restarting the match). But McMahon had a legit knee injury and was off tv for several months, so him injurying himself was bound to happen with his "walk"
