We have those in New Orleans, LA and the very deep south eastern gulf parts parts of the US. They call them mole crickets here. I find them cute but they are considered pests to landscapers because their larva destroy grass roots

We have those here in texas. We call em mud crickets. Those little claws dont really pinch, they are incredibly strong and can cut your palm up if you try wrap you fingers around em due to their habit of burrowing to escape.

Its the reason that he was holding the little bugger by its shell with his finger tips instead of cupping it in the palm of his hand.

They're cool litttle bugs.

Mole Cricket. They have these in Florida by the billions some years, you can't take a step without crunching a bunch of them. They are usually a bit larger than the one you are holding in your video, but definitely mole crickets.

I just caught one tonight in my little bug cage after it jumped onto my leg and then onto the floor. I am in Japan, however... but yes Kera = Mole Cricket. I think I'm going to keep him in the cage overnight and then release him in the morning.

I don't know why people would be so afraid of them (as I've noticed on the web)... they seems quite adorable... like crickets with little digging paws!

I've seen them in Romania and Australia. In Romania they are considered a pest by gardeners and killed on spot. They eat the roots of vegetables and they can make a lot of damage. The adults can fly very well. When I was catching them in Romania, sometimes they were ejecting some dark brown sticky liquid to my hands, I couldn't stand it! :)
