@MrDrDudeMan No, they don't have to be brass. I've seen other metals used, too, even wood! Brass is going to be most common for a modern seal though, because it's inexpensive, easy to machine, and performs well for the task.
@thecapone45 Same as the butane lighter here, just slower. The more traditional way to use a candle is to actually cut off a small piece of wax and melt it in a small spoon over the candle flame, then pour it onto the paper and press the seal.
@thecapone45 Sure will...but if you're using a candle, it's best to use a small spoon. I personally don't do this method because it's not very fast, but it is more true to the way it used to be done.
Great Video! Do you think the weight of that seal will effect postage? I was interested in doing a wax seal for wedding invitations but I don't know if the weight is significant. thx again!
@retropacgirl, everything I used here (except that specific handle, which I made) is made by J. Herbin, and I along with other retailers sell the regularly.
@surfflyfish4striper, I and many other retailers sell them. J. Herbin makes the seals in France, and you can see a list of all the retailers in the US at J. Herbin's website (for some reason, I can't post the link here in the comments).
It's surprisingly easy with the right tools. The ice pack trick helps a ton too. I found the cooler the brass, the better and faster it makes the seal in the wax.
awesome...i've been wondering about wax seals for like 2 years but figured it'd be too complicated for me to get into. but now that i saw ur video u made it seem mad easy...thanks for posting!
I like to drop the wax rather than smear on the paper. I also do a single drop 1.5mm away from the "big island" to give it a casual-messy touch.

Hey, do the seals always have to be brass or is there an alternative?

@alartundo1, it does take a little practice, but you're going to be a pro for sure with how many you're likely going to do for your wedding :)

Seems really easy to do.!!!! Looking forward to trying it out for my weddin invites.!!!

@sonyfxi, it's possible, but not likely. With the amount of wax I used here, it shouldn't be a problem. If you put a LOT of wax on though, you could.
