we are the most fortunate to love the corries and we are alwazys here for love our country and stories an song s, thaqt ye gave us xx thankyou roy and yurself ma man xx
I saw the Corries many times, years ago! They always were a class act, and Scottish to the core. Now that I live abroad, they are my anchor still, to my scottish musical heritage. This is the music I was brought up with!!!
R.I.P. Roy the corries are legends and will always be remembered im scottish and proud just like yous i was brought up with the corries and andy stewart think your music is awesome wish u all the best in the future Ronnie SCOTLAND THE BRAVE
I have only came upon the Corries music because of going to the Scotland matches and singing the "national anthem". More young people need to be taught about there roots once again no matter how modern these tunes are,
Two great guys and Scotlands youth needs to know!...............ow yeah im a normal Scottish drunken failure at the age of 24 but just wish this country would sort its prioritys out.
I am now 32 years old. I grew up listening to them when my Dad used to play their videos and records at home. This kind of music should never be allowed to vanish.
I have just discovered this tribute to Roy and feel very moved by it.I had the pleasure of meeting The Corries on many occasions when they came to Aberdeen. The music and love will never be forgotten.
His memory will live forever through Flower of Scotland
I've always had pride in my Scots heritage, you can really feel it in the pipes when your heart races as you hear them playing, but it wasn't until I heard "Flower of Scotland" on You Tube, sung by a crowd of fans at the games that I realized just how powerfully felt your anthem has become. I'm proud to be an American, but a part of being American is your pride in where your people came from.
i saw the corries loadsa times in pubs in aberdeen, proper minstrels that told the history of scotland its so heartbreaking to hear this mans loss of a good friend & scotlands loss of a much loved son
I was lucky to see them perform live in Edinburgh in March 1974 -- we were living in Scotland that year for my dad's job -- anyway, I love all that Scottish folk music they sung. They are definitely a credit to Scotland.
Is it possible to buy the complete interview? How about the entire Roy Williamson tribute program? Does anybody know who owns the rights to it and if it's available to order?
Saw them in concert many times and loved every one. The Corries are a huge miss to the music and culture of Scotland but lives on in Ronnie and other singers of that ilk. RIP Roy xx
thank you lain for sharing this..i,m a great fan of the corries, sinds i heart the song whil you go lassie go on the funerol of my brother he whas 53 years old thnx for sharing
Does anyone can tell me the title of this song I have not heard in a long time? I hope I can find it posted.
The lyrics (I remember just a few) are like this:
"Come along, come along, with your booty and your song to my hide-away..." Also " ...cause the Redcoat is gone...." and "Here's one for my King, and the other for my Queen..."
A night at the city Halls in Glasgow with them was not to be missed and I didn't. Apart from one or two classical orchestras they are the only live act i've ever seen and none can match them. As Arkle was on the race track so were they on stage and Roy is sorely missed. As Ronnie rightly said how he would have loved Murrayfield 1990. Surely Scotland's finest sporting moment.
Ronnie says he will continue alone. This isn't strictly true, because not only will Roy be by your side for ever, you also carry the best wishes and affection from millions who have been heartened by your music.
I met Ronnie a couple of times when I worked in a wee cheese shop in Edinburgh and it was a great moment for me to meet a living legend. Who can honestly say there eyes have never filled up when singing or listening to the flower of Scotland.Well done the corries for hitting the emotional button of the scottish people and long may it be sang over the world.
The Corries was was one of only about half a dozen big live music acts I've seen in my life, and the most memorable. Sorry to think I'll never be able to hear Roy live again. Thanks for the music.
a bit late in responding to tribute to Roy , I first saw the corries here in Canada back in the 80's & have been hooked on them ever since they will be missed as a great team
R.I.P Roy If it wasnae fir you and Ronnie we wouldnt have the anthem that we hold so dearly, and you both will live on as legends in the scottish history as the people that gave us the song that made the rest of the world see how dedicated and proud we are of our counry. LONG LIVE SCOTLAND
i came to south africa when i was six. im 43 this year and the corries played a huge part in keeping me scottish. my one wish was that i could see them perform live. unfortunately each time i was home i missed them. this dream will never be realised but i sang the flower of scotland to my children as babies and their music is a constant in their lives now even though they have never been to scotland themselves. long may the corries music continued to be heard.
And Roy, may you look down on the battlements of Edinburgh when the day comes, and come it will, when the Union Jack is lowered, the Scottish Saltire is raised at the moment of Independence, with Flower of Scotland or Scots Wae Hae sung by a choir. I know that another choir will sing along, with you as the led singer. Sweet dreams dear Prince and from Scot's everwhere thank you, humbly from the bottom of our hearts. And thank you Ronnie as well. I hope to see you on TV on our Independence day.
The Corries, I have known really through videos recorded by my Dad many moons ago. Yet they seem more up to date, with their patriotic songs than many a musician would be nowadays. The Corries to me, opitomised the very essence of Patriotism that most politicians, (in Westminster anyway) dispises, but which the true Scot grasps to his bossom. Love of Country, Raising the expectations of the Scots,nd keeping alive a Culture, that is blessed in breadth as well as depth. Sweet dreams Roy.
As a Scot living in Southern England, I do stick the Corries on from time to time, normally to boost myself in time for Televisied Sporting events like the the Rugby games etc.
I´ve taken the music to Seville and my Spanish girlfriend´s parents love them.
Who knows where you might hear thier music playing!
The Corries, an invaluable asset and treasure for Scots & Scotland
Spot on Ronnie, Live your life and have no regrets, Its a shame our country is not our own anymore. Still life goes on, The corries take me back to the 70`s, when life was a lot more simple.
The Corries captured `Scottishness` so easily is it any wonder Roy penned our national anthem?
It doesn't seem like we lost Roy so long ago. Time passes and memories fade, but in his case, the memories don't fade and are as strong as when he lived and touched so many lives.
The Corries love of Scotland and their fight for independence will be their greatest legacy. "Braveheart" was important to the movement, but Roy and Ronnie pushed for independence and helped to keep the movement going when it stalled. They will be remembered for what they did for Scotland, not just for folk music.
What a thought. 18 years this August 12th. I remember when I heard the news; couldn't believe it. Was not a glorious 12th that year. Sad, sad loss and Ronnie's tribute was so touching from one dear friend about the other. Yes they did capture the movement in Scotland at the time but now it is even more poignant. I also hardly ever passs a day without a Corries tune.
Deprived of their culture, deprived of seeng their national team playing the countries national sport, what use is the BBC to Scotland. Apart from feeding us Unionist Propaganda.
The only reason I know of the Corries is i'm old enough to have seen them. Why does BBC Scotland never play them on any of their Celtic Music radio shows,(or the TV) . Young Scots are not getting the chance to hear their music.
Why does BBC Scotland never show Scottish International football games, young people can't go into pubs to watch the games on SKY
I am proud to say that I am Scottish and I pass that pride on to my children who are now enjoying the music of the Roy and Ronnie. A new generation will grow up knowing of their heritage through the fine music of the Corries. I know that the Heavenly Band is more the sweeter because Roy has joined them. Many thanks.
In my opinion a most gifted man who with Ronnie formed the Corries and together gave joy to so many people. Thank goodness that their partnership will live on forever on CD and video.
Ronnie as elequent and articulate as ever on such a sad occassion but the Corries will live on forever through their wonderful music and what a great achievement for Roy to write his country's national anthem, an anthem chosen by the people themselves. Heres tae ye, wha's like ye.

Who the HELL are the four people who disliked this!!
KoteVode 1 year ago
@KoteVode
I think some people like "disliking" anything.
Who can "dislike" an obituary? It's like disliking a gravestone or booing a funeral address.
Whatever you think of the rights and wrongs of the Scottish political situation and the viability of independence, "disliking" this is pointless.

A heart ripper, Roy was a great singer of folk, it was a long time ago when I first listened to the lads, they gave us great pleasure.

I'm glad that The Corries legacy is living on - Scotland wouldn't be the same if we'd never known them.

I dare anyone who loves the corries to watch this without a tear in their eye.
First time I seen this footage was on Utube. The internet has, for me, in one seven minute video proved its worth.

A beautiful tribute. The world is much poorer for Roy's passing.

Thanx Iain for putting this on as it was a very sad day when Roy died and I saw Ronnie on his own after but it was never the same :(
