  • bloody hell. Roy died in 1990. I did not realise that. I have been listening to the corries since i was born and i was born in 1991!

  • Roy's taken the high road. Just discovered the Corries this evening - I know I'm a behind the time American. Beautiful music. Thank you for posting.

  • you can see the loss on his face his pal gawn too soon from us all

  • I saw the Corries many times, years ago! They always were a class act, and Scottish to the core. Now that I live abroad, they are my anchor still, to my scottish musical heritage. This is the music I was brought up with!!!

  • Ronnie Brown's tribute to his friend and partner is so touching and oozes total class and respect.

For those who never saw them live, it is an era past. There will never be the likes again.

  • this guy oozes class . hes a legend.

  • R.I.P. Roy the corries are legends and will always be remembered im scottish and proud just like yous i was brought up with the corries and andy stewart think your music is awesome wish u all the best in the future Ronnie SCOTLAND THE BRAVE

  • not only a very good musician but also a very intelligent man. class act all round.

  • I can't imagine what it must be like to have written the song which subsequently became a national anthem - that must just feel so good.

  • I can't imagine what it must be like to have written the song which subsequently became a national anthem - that must just feel so good.

  • Scottish Icons.

  • I have only came upon the Corries music because of going to the Scotland matches and singing the "national anthem". More young people need to be taught about there roots once again no matter how modern these tunes are,

Two great guys and Scotlands youth needs to know!...............ow yeah im a normal Scottish drunken failure at the age of 24 but just wish this country would sort its prioritys out.

    Love the corries.

  • im 31 and was 2 brought up on the corries :) every new yr hogmanay without fail!!! and this new yr 2 x

  • I am now 32 years old. I grew up listening to them when my Dad used to play their videos and records at home. This kind of music should never be allowed to vanish.

  • Who the HELL are the four people who disliked this!!

  • @KoteVode

I think some people like "disliking" anything.

Who can "dislike" an obituary? It's like disliking a gravestone or booing a funeral address.

Whatever you think of the rights and wrongs of the Scottish political situation and the viability of independence, "disliking" this is pointless.

  • as always ronnie has epic hair

  • can i just say this is this is why im pround to be scottish. what a fantastic person. this is why we are "FLOWER OF SCOTLAND" . we owe them a debt .

  • what a normal guy and what a loss. Thanks for it all.

  • Heres tae them, none like them.....and never shall there be

  • R.I.P Roy

  • RIP a wonderful man and fantastic singer

  • legends

  • when did he die? i was a kid at time but cant mind what year???

  • @skyepup999 1990 im sure, year i was born

  • I have just discovered this tribute to Roy and feel very moved by it.I had the pleasure of meeting The Corries on many occasions when they came to Aberdeen. The music and love will never be forgotten.

His memory will live forever through Flower of Scotland

We will never forget rest in peace

  • i love the corries, weep ye by athol

  • I've always had pride in my Scots heritage, you can really feel it in the pipes when your heart races as you hear them playing, but it wasn't until I heard "Flower of Scotland" on You Tube, sung by a crowd of fans at the games that I realized just how powerfully felt your anthem has become. I'm proud to be an American, but a part of being American is your pride in where your people came from.

  • i saw the corries loadsa times in pubs in aberdeen, proper minstrels that told the history of scotland its so heartbreaking to hear this mans loss of a good friend & scotlands loss of a much loved son

  • I was lucky to see them perform live in Edinburgh in March 1974 -- we were living in Scotland that year for my dad's job -- anyway, I love all that Scottish folk music they sung. They are definitely a credit to Scotland.

    Beautiful tribute!!

  • One word........Magic.

  • Is it possible to buy the complete interview? How about the entire Roy Williamson tribute program? Does anybody know who owns the rights to it and if it's available to order?

  • They, along with a few other good souls stopped scottish music turning into something you hear in lifts.RIP

  • terrible loss but i hope ronnie goes on bless them both

  • Roy was a legend. Such a sad loss to Scotland. I wish I'd seen them perform, but The Corries music lives on forever.

  • my son introduced me to the music of the corries and i'm so glad he did,r.i.p. roy, great music, great people, mick ireland

  • What a fabulous tribute to one half of a great band. RIP Roy xx

  • Scotland the brave!

  • Saw them in concert many times and loved every one. The Corries are a huge miss to the music and culture of Scotland but lives on in Ronnie and other singers of that ilk. RIP Roy xx

  • R.I.P Roy. I love the Corries music and wish I'd seen them perform live. My son is 17 and he loves it too, the legacy goes on.

  • you've got my support ronnie

  • thank you lain for sharing this..i,m a great fan of the corries, sinds i heart the song whil you go lassie go on the funerol of my brother he whas 53 years old thnx for sharing

  • Ronnie it a very intelligent person.

  • I am proud to have had the privelage to have heard a little of the their music, but I have missed so much

A little of the Corries is better than none at all

They are a credit to themselves and To Scotland

  • A night at the city Halls in Glasgow with them was not to be missed and I didn't. Apart from one or two classical orchestras they are the only live act i've ever seen and none can match them. As Arkle was on the race track so were they on stage and Roy is sorely missed. As Ronnie rightly said how he would have loved Murrayfield 1990. Surely Scotland's finest sporting moment.

  • I'm sure I saw Ronnie Brown walking through Kirrie recently, does he live there?

  • Ronnie lives in the east side of Edinburgh, but he travels all around Scotland, so you might well have seen him in Kirrie

  • @Iain40

I saw ronnie in concert, a true legend and Roy was amazing, shame so many never got to see them 2!!!!

  • R.I.P from bonnie scotland

  • very nice tribute...."educated fingers"...thats so true of Roy. He played almost every instrument that exists!

    RIP Roy

  • God Bless Roy's soul. May he rest in peace.

  • I do have one regret....never getting to see the Corries in person.

  • I was so sad when I read that Roy had died.

  • RIP Roy, you will live on, through your music.

  • Ronnie says he will continue alone. This isn't strictly true, because not only will Roy be by your side for ever, you also carry the best wishes and affection from millions who have been heartened by your music.

  • RIP Roy. Roy n Ronnie were to Scottish folk music to what Luke Kelly was to Irish. God Bless x

  • I met Ronnie a couple of times when I worked in a wee cheese shop in Edinburgh and it was a great moment for me to meet a living legend. Who can honestly say there eyes have never filled up when singing or listening to the flower of Scotland.Well done the corries for hitting the emotional button of the scottish people and long may it be sang over the world.

  • Both Roy and Ronnie have allowed us through their music to have a pride in who we are. Heaven must be a happier place since Roy joined them. Thanks

  • The Corries was was one of only about half a dozen big live music acts I've seen in my life, and the most memorable. Sorry to think I'll never be able to hear Roy live again. Thanks for the music.

  • a bit late in responding to tribute to Roy , I first saw the corries here in Canada back in the 80's & have been hooked on them ever since they will be missed as a great team

  • I must say, better late than never, have been listening all day to Corries and they really touch the core of my soul. I´m so thankful I found them.

  • R.I.P Roy If it wasnae fir you and Ronnie we wouldnt have the anthem that we hold so dearly, and you both will live on as legends in the scottish history as the people that gave us the song that made the rest of the world see how dedicated and proud we are of our counry. LONG LIVE SCOTLAND

  • sorry mate hit the wrong peg couldn't agree more with you

  • superb!!!! only way i can describe this

  • Magic!

  • i came to south africa when i was six. im 43 this year and the corries played a huge part in keeping me scottish. my one wish was that i could see them perform live. unfortunately each time i was home i missed them. this dream will never be realised but i sang the flower of scotland to my children as babies and their music is a constant in their lives now even though they have never been to scotland themselves. long may the corries music continued to be heard.

  • R.I.P Roy Williamson, We Always Miss You

  • This s for you Rosie !! Hpy Birthday!!!!!

  • Greatest Scottish band i've known. Excellent video.

    Excellent song aswell.

  • rip roy god be with you my friend :( the corries will live on

  • We wini see his like again... God Bless u Roy

  • there music will always be in my heart

  • Make no mistake our day will come, it might be sooner it might be later, but it will come.

And the day it does Roy will be up their dancin a jig!.!.!.!.!.

    INDEPENDANT SCOTLAND NOW.............

  • Hi All, The understatement and modesty of a true Scottish Gentleman .

Ronnie and Roy , All of Scotland know .

    The Flower of Scotland .

and so do all of we .

  • Well said!

  • And Roy, may you look down on the battlements of Edinburgh when the day comes, and come it will, when the Union Jack is lowered, the Scottish Saltire is raised at the moment of Independence, with Flower of Scotland or Scots Wae Hae sung by a choir. I know that another choir will sing along, with you as the led singer. Sweet dreams dear Prince and from Scot's everwhere thank you, humbly from the bottom of our hearts. And thank you Ronnie as well. I hope to see you on TV on our Independence day.

  • The Corries, I have known really through videos recorded by my Dad many moons ago. Yet they seem more up to date, with their patriotic songs than many a musician would be nowadays. The Corries to me, opitomised the very essence of Patriotism that most politicians, (in Westminster anyway) dispises, but which the true Scot grasps to his bossom. Love of Country, Raising the expectations of the Scots,nd keeping alive a Culture, that is blessed in breadth as well as depth. Sweet dreams Roy.

  • spot on with what its all about what a great duo they were and will live on in the hearts and homes of there fans xx

  • As a Scot living in Southern England, I do stick the Corries on from time to time, normally to boost myself in time for Televisied Sporting events like the the Rugby games etc.

I´ve taken the music to Seville and my Spanish girlfriend´s parents love them.

Who knows where you might hear thier music playing!

The Corries, an invaluable asset and treasure for Scots & Scotland

  • Spot on Ronnie, Live your life and have no regrets, Its a shame our country is not our own anymore. Still life goes on, The corries take me back to the 70`s, when life was a lot more simple.

The Corries captured `Scottishness` so easily is it any wonder Roy penned our national anthem?

    INDEPENDANT SCOTLAND NOW

  • It doesn't seem like we lost Roy so long ago. Time passes and memories fade, but in his case, the memories don't fade and are as strong as when he lived and touched so many lives.

The Corries love of Scotland and their fight for independence will be their greatest legacy. "Braveheart" was important to the movement, but Roy and Ronnie pushed for independence and helped to keep the movement going when it stalled. They will be remembered for what they did for Scotland, not just for folk music.

  • your no wrong there pal 18 yrs have passed and theres no a day goes past i dont have a corrie song on

  • What a thought. 18 years this August 12th. I remember when I heard the news; couldn't believe it. Was not a glorious 12th that year. Sad, sad loss and Ronnie's tribute was so touching from one dear friend about the other. Yes they did capture the movement in Scotland at the time but now it is even more poignant. I also hardly ever passs a day without a Corries tune.

  • yes and we can still rise and be a nation again............. gone but never forgotton god bless yi roy williamson

  • Thank you Ian for putting the clips on the tube!

    They are Magic.

  • Deprived of their culture, deprived of seeng their national team playing the countries national sport, what use is the BBC to Scotland. Apart from feeding us Unionist Propaganda.

  • The only reason I know of the Corries is i'm old enough to have seen them. Why does BBC Scotland never play them on any of their Celtic Music radio shows,(or the TV) . Young Scots are not getting the chance to hear their music.

Why does BBC Scotland never show Scottish International football games, young people can't go into pubs to watch the games on SKY

  • I am proud to say that I am Scottish and I pass that pride on to my children who are now enjoying the music of the Roy and Ronnie. A new generation will grow up knowing of their heritage through the fine music of the Corries. I know that the Heavenly Band is more the sweeter because Roy has joined them. Many thanks.

  • In my opinion a most gifted man who with Ronnie formed the Corries and together gave joy to so many people. Thank goodness that their partnership will live on forever on CD and video.

    RIP Roy.

  • I LOVED the Corries. So sad to hear about Roy's passing. I'm Cornish myself, but enjoy all the ethnic songs of Greater Britian.

    Thanks for the good memorries!

  • Brilliant!! Never fear Roy for you are immortal!

  • you are the stars of scotland - the national anthem at scotland v italy was the most emotional ever and i know you were thinking of roy

  • Roy & Ronnie, the two R's, the Rolls Royce of Scottish Music, thanks for the memories , RIP, Roy.

  • A real star

  • Ronnie as elequent and articulate as ever on such a sad occassion but the Corries will live on forever through their wonderful music and what a great achievement for Roy to write his country's national anthem, an anthem chosen by the people themselves. Heres tae ye, wha's like ye.

  • roy williamson lives on forever.

  • Ronnie made a fitting tribute to his partner for almost 30yrs i daresay he'll think of him every once in awhile Roy's songs/and his dry wit were a "ONE OFF"

  • A fitting tribute to one Fine Scotsman straight and true from the heart of another.

  • We´re proud of both Roy n Ronnie.

    "Flower o Scotland" fer Aye.

  • Absolutely brilliant.

Thank you so much for posting this. Though I've never really been familiar with much of the Corries work, I am eternally grateful to both of them for giving us "Flower Of Scotland"

    True Legend.

    R.I.P

  • roy will nevere be forgoten . he will live on in memery for the best song in the world

  • The Corries were and ur fantastic.... a scottish institution

  • a shame roy never lived to see the success of his greatest song,i seen ronnie sing it at hampden before the georgia game though, anybody there would agree the fire still burns in his belly,it was amazing.

the corries are superb ALBA GU BRATH

  • Alba gu Brath? Scotland the Brave?

  • A heart ripper, Roy was a great singer of folk, it was a long time ago when I first listened to the lads, they gave us great pleasure.

  • I haven't seen these segments since the programme originally aired.

    Cheers.

  • I'm glad that The Corries legacy is living on - Scotland wouldn't be the same if we'd never known them.

  • i so agree with nawarack....a tear in the eye..and praise for technology

  • I dare anyone who loves the corries to watch this without a tear in their eye.

First time I seen this footage was on Utube. The internet has, for me, in one seven minute video proved its worth.

  • theres a lot of us out here who wish that we had a "smiggen" of roy williamson's talent.

  • A beautiful tribute. The world is much poorer for Roy's passing.

  • Aye, Roy Williamson, we're going to miss him.

  • that was a real lovely tribute to a real scotsman...thanks for all these songs and vids

  • Roy died August 1990 this was one of the programs broadcast a few days after he died.

  • Great tribute Iain. What year was that he was interviewed?

    thanks again

    Scotty

  • Thanx Iain for putting this on as it was a very sad day when Roy died and I saw Ronnie on his own after but it was never the same :(
