@lag0000Hojo's meddling and experimentation of Cloud with Mako poisoning and Jenova Cell's left Cloud in a mentally unstable state and people seem to forget that. It wasn't until the very end of ff7 that Cloud is finally able to regain his former memories and ultimately live up to be the living legacy that Zack entrusted Cloud to be.

I wonder, Cloud didn't make it into SOLDIER, but he was keeping up with a 1st class when a Turk didn't. How does Shinra test their SOLDIER-to-be? Making them guess a number?

Well, even if Shinra didn't we know Cloud really had potential. After all he stayed 4 years in a tube after being experimented and he came out quite well, more or less. Zack doesn't count because before the experiments he had been exposed to Mako and Jenova cells before, while Cloud didn't.

That said I also like Zack.

@DerangedSlayer13 Cloud's 14 to start with and by the end he's 21. Here Zack is actually only 18, but the story spans 16-23...he never reaches mid 20s :'(. They aren't very good at really making their characters look like they are aging, but it's still such a good story.

He's fourteen here, four years as prisoner to Hojo, three years between Crisis Core and Advent Children, so that makes him twenty-one in Advent Children. That's why Hojo used him as an experiment-the new sepiroth. I mean look at it this way, a child of merely fourteen beat Sepiroth, his big pride-and-joy and successful experiment.

When they escape the lab on up to some of when they were on the run Zack is 22 and Cloud is 20. At the end of the game Zack is 23 and Cloud is 21. That's what I've heard, I think that it's accurate. It sounds accurate to me.

After Angeal died, it jumped to almost two years later so in Nibelheim Tragedy their ages are Zack (18), Aerith (17), Cloud (16), and Tifa (15).

Then, Zack and Cloud inprisoned in Shinra Manor for 4 years, they escaped for 9 month, and FF VII begun 2 weeks later after Zack died. So, the last is Zack (23), Aerith (22), Cloud (21), and Tifa (20).
