good effort! Βut The pronunciation is not good....example Δ-δ is pronounced THELTA.... I am Greek! I know very much better than some foreigners who write and say so is the pronunciation. good video but still want your job in pronunciation ;)
@eleni22ish I don't know how many times I have to say it on this wall, there are HISTORICALLY 4 pronunciations of the Greek language. Just because you are Greek doesn't mean you know this or that others know it!!! We have 1) Restored Attic, 2) Modern Greek, 3) Restored Koine, and 4) Erasmian. In this video Erasmian is used. I am not attempting to pronounce modern Greek or the other 2 forms used here.
Guys, there are essential mistakes in all these videos. Β / β is pronounced Vita, not Beta. Δ / δ is pronounced Thelta (as the article THE e.x. The dog, The house), not Delta. Τ / τ is pronounced Taf, not Tau. Υ / υ is pronounced Ipsilon instead of Upsilon, e.t.c. The letters in the video are written in this way in order to match the Greek spelling, but the pronunciation is a lot more different than what we hear in the video.

@tmichaelwhalcomb You are right, I found out later that it is indeed as you say. But don't blame Greeks for that kind of comments, in our schools we don't learn anything at all about this pronunciation, other than modern Greek. It's difficult for a Greek to imagine that this is how our language was supposed to sound like. Even in the Ancient Greek lessons we were not taught that there were various accents through the years, and we use the Modern Greek way to read ancient texts.
@Phant0mDuck THANK YOU!!!! You are the first person to finally and really do their homework!!!! Now, maybe everyone else will follow suit! I can see where you are coming from with not knowing that this is how the language may have sounded. In fact, it may have not sounded like this in antiquity. This pronunciation is called "Erasmian" which was developed and adopted much later. The pronunciation used in this video is but one way of doing things.

Respond to this video...again, there are a variety of pronunciations of greek, not merely because different forms of greek existed in antiquity and throughout history, but because even in the east and west in modernity, words get inflected and spoken differently.
@tmichaelwhalcomb I understand that, all that I am saying is that the majority of greeks pronounce the letters close to how I say them with the exception of accents. I know many people from Greece in places such as Athens, Hios and Rhodes, even someone from Cyprus. You're pronunciation is more of the american way, there is nothing wrong with that, it's just what it is.
why people who dont know greek keep makin videos to mislead other people? wtf is wrong with u?:P are u supposed to be a greek person or sth? mouuu in ya face ignorant
@bubutokuneli clearly, you're not someone who realizes that there are a variety of pronunciations of greek, not merely because different forms of greek existed in antiquity and throughout history, but because even in the east and west in modernity, words get inflected and spoken differently. so, why don't you chill out?!? you're welcome to comment elsewhere but if you're gonna be toxic on here, i'll just delete your comments. say something constructive or don't say anything at all.
@tmichaelwhalcomb dear, this is not modern greek. its not ancient greek nor greek from different areas..im greek enough to know that.you should make it clear that if foreigh ppl learn this pronunciation and come here n talk like that, greek people will laugh at them. now if you believe this video is helping and teaching people then suit yourself. just stop misleading people.
@bubutokuneli actually, it IS ancient Greek pronounced in Erasmian style as is typically done here in the West. Trust me, I'm Western enough to know. I'm not misleading anyone, in fact, I'm trying to educate people. HINT HINT
This video has really helped me! I'm taking a Greek New Testament class and the pronunciation in this video is the same as what I have learned from my textbook and the online help as well! Thank you for posting this!

Ahahahahahaha, thats not greek!!!! thats ...... trash!!! if you dont know greek, at least stop teaching other people.... anw, mu nu ahahahahaha loooool tau???? its taf, not phai... its pheeeeee god damn it peopleeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!
this is koine greek! (from the author) and i will say that i have a "rough breathing" over "eta" here which makes it sound like "heta"; "eta" is the more proper pronunciation.
@tmichaelwhalcomb the correct pronunciation is Greek(english) : A(a) B(v) Γ(y{ like it isin word Yard}) Δ( TH in the word THan) E(e) Z(z) H(i) Θ(TH in the word THunder)
Sorry for the triple post but I'll try to contact some of my greek friends that Know ancient greek a little better than me...It was a really long and boring class in school!
The Main difference between Koine and modern greek is grammar and tone marks...I studied it and think of the pronunciation of the verb "to be" eimi.... or eee-mee... that's how it is used....Do you really read ancient greek text or are you just another poser?
i'm sorry but your comment has thrown me for a loop. why does your "but" say anything? how? why in the world would "mu" and "nu" be pronounced "mee" and "nee"? That's totally incorrect when it comes to Koine Greek.
@tmichaelwhalcomb This is not Modern Greek and it is definitely not "Koine" or Common Greek used for people that could not speak them...the letters are Mee, Nee.. most of the letters aren't told correctly in this video...If you know any Spanish then Gamma is like the double L not like G and this holds true for Koine..Greek is my native language and i have 3 years of Ancient...mostly Koine Greek. I moved to the USA few months ago...This pronunciation is good only for science class.
ii that's cool..but when i hear the song with the greek alphabet it's sounds like..hmm very strange to me..i am going to make a video with the correct pronunciation of the greek alphabet
i'm singing it beacuse in the U.S., a popular method of teaching (when memorizing) is to use jingles, songs, etc. songs get stuck in people's heads, so, when memorizing content, to get it stuck in your head, put it to a song. the tune is to the song Itsy Bitsy Spider :) I think...
Method of memorizing through song is not unique to modern day US. The first nations peoples of the "New World" (Americas) used song to pass on history and preserve traditions. And least we forget the
Kelts, Germanic tribes, Chinese, Hindu, Japanese, Egyptians, Aboriginals of Australia, the Papua of New Guinea, African cultures!!! and especially ancient Greeks who also incorporated theater along with song.
yeah i know...we learn ancient greek at school and believe me i have difficulties...and if someone speak to me with the ancient greek language i'll understand very little..something else...why you singing the greek aplhabet?:S
i know that many english, latin, german words, etc. are based on the grk alphabet. i also know that alpha and beta form alphabet. similiar to hebrew "alefbet". anyway, i don't know how many times i have to say it on here, ancient grk and modern are very very very different, they are close in some respects but different in many. again, its the same w/classical and modern hebrew. modern grk pronunciation is sooooo different from ancient, whether you're grk or not!
The closet pronciation to ancient Greek is modern Greek or more so the Greek Orthodox Church speakers of Koine, which have been consistent since the founding of the church (not Greek Orthodox per say but Christianity it's self).
Your Greek pronunciation is not based on ancient Greeks, but of non-Greek speakers in the age of enlightenment or even the Protestant churches interpretations.
Your efforts are good but please be unbiased and balanced in facts and logical common sense.
lol i'm greek...you're sayin' the greek alphabet very weird..you should know that many words of the eglish language are greek..for example the word:alphabet in greek is αλβάβητο(alfavito)...the word methodology in greek is μεθοδολογία(methodologia)
good effort! Βut The pronunciation is not good....example Δ-δ is pronounced THELTA.... I am Greek! I know very much better than some foreigners who write and say so is the pronunciation. good video but still want your job in pronunciation ;)
