If you choose not to believe that this came from Peoples Temple, you are entitled to that. I'm not sure where else it could have come from.

I had no idea! I knew he was horrible and full of sh-- but as a teen I used to hear their radio shows inviting people to the "paradise" they had established, and I assumed they had retained some semblance of "churchianity", if only to maintain his power over them. Jones would tell people that he will send people around tonight loyal to him, pretending to want to leave and you better turn them in because you may might be being tested. Think about that.

People should not judge anyone who was involved w/ Jonestown- shouldn't judge anyone period. Without looking closely at the socio-economical implications of the times & the people involved, there is no way to understand any of it. Times are very different now than what they were then- but many things still remain the same.... rich get richer- poor get poorer. These days the rich get poor even... The idea of the Peoples Temple was sound it's basically a Spin Off from the Hippie Movement of the 60's of Commuitarian Living (I hope thats a real term) where people live together in one large Community living off each other and the land. The went to Guyana to escape their Horrible Reality in America. Which they did but discovered a new Horrible Reality living under a Mad Man.
The problem with Jonestown was that it was run by a Mad Man Jim Jones.

@tamaram55 I believe I was trying to say that if he was accused of sex acts that were molestation, sex by coercion, religious compulsion or duress, intimidation or threat, rather than purely by free will, then he is being accused of a violent act, violating their free will, forcing them to act in a way they wouldn't choose. This isn't a matter of sexual orientation; It is criminal. I felt people were discussing things he did that were abhorrent, not that being gay or bisexual was abhorrent.

Sherwin would be in Georgetown on Nov 18 trying to save their daughter. That night Sharon Amos killed her older daughter and two small adopted kids even though they were in the relative safety of Georgetown, not Jonestown. It is remarkable that Sherwin was allowed to leave the house alive.
