  • Mickey Rooney was the best in B@T! Funny as hell.

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • wow, paying close attention to this video just reveals that the man speaking in it is totally up his own ass. Yes, he doesn't like that movie, understandable. But he says "how racist Mickey Rooney is." Um, actually Mickey Rooney isn't any more racist than the guy in this video. But Rooney certainly has a better sense of humor.

  • Oh and by the way... this movie is still incredibly terrible

  • @TheSeanracer Still? How did it change to not being? Who said it was a great movie? Why do you feel the need to call a movie terrible when nobody debated or contested that point with you? Insecurity, maybe?

  • @Tripo1iSamson Well, not sure why you would come to page that clearly said "Breakfast at Tiffany's Syndrome", unless you either liked the movie or didn't. Anyone with any concept of reality would know why it's offensive, unless of course... you came here to troll. Judging by your lengthy rebuttals, I go with the latter. Dude, go to sleep. Merry Christmas!

  • @TheSeanracer used in debate that has no merit: statements such as "anyone who isn't x (racist, dumb, illogical) would agree that y." I can't remember the formal term for that argumentative (dis)method. And I didn't come to "troll," that term is so annoying, and I didn't come here to insult people who disagreed with me, and in fact that seems to be what some other people did. "Judging by your lengthy rebuttals, I go with the latter." Okay, so you assume by my lengthy rebuttals

  • @TheSeanracer that you never once directly addressed that I came here solely to work people up? Sorry, man, but that's not what I'm in to. I don't enjoy seeing the worst brought out in people simply because I don't see eye to eye with them. But if someone insults (trolls?) me simply for disagreeing, then I will use a well structure argument to defend myself. That's called practicing reason. So is that a good enough explanation for you?

  • @TheSeanracer well structured**, and I'm serious about asking if you see what I'm saying. Right, I'm being fair enough, aren't I? I didn't resort to name-calling, insults, classic distraction, or anything of that low-brow stuff people use first and then don't think about later. I addressed comments, reasoning, points, unlike anyone who's replied to me tonight. So who's trolling who? Who's being "unbalanced" or immature? Considering idiot means "foolish" or "retarded," I fail

  • Comment removed

  • @TheSeanracer Eh, I'm quite happy. And did you mean silhouette? I respond to a sentence or two of yours with a human outline? What? I would be much happier though if you simply addressed what I've said to you directly. It's the online equivalent of looking someone in the eye, if you can actually respond to something a person says directly. You said I was likely trolling and posed some questions/statements and I explained. And you say I respond with a human shadow. What in the hell?

  • @Tripo1iSamson "soliloquy", did you read the last comment?

  • @Tripo1iSamson I say a few sentences and you respond with a soliloquy. I didn't think I had to spell out common sense to point out why something like a buck tooth white dude pretending to be asian was insulting and pretty racist... yea that term gets thrown around too much and yea, a lot of people need to stop being overly sensitive, but in this film that anger was justified... plus, it's a really bad movie to protect.

  • @TheSeanracer Actually, the character was a buck-toothed and aloof Japanese man, not just an "asian." So would it have been better had an actual buck-toothed Japanese actor who fit the role played the character, for comedic effect? Would that garner your approval of it not being racist? If a book or movie calls for a certain type of character, it's generally damaging to that tale to tweak the character too much. And there weren't too many buck-toothed Japanese actors at the time,

  • @Tripo1iSamson Probably.. because at least it would be played by the proper race. Using cartoony characteristics to point fun of a group of people (ie. blackface) is pretty racist; I don't know what dictionary you're looking at.

  • @TheSeanracer Here we go again. The definition of racism is "a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others. " Also "a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination." and "hatred or intolerance of another race." None of those are exhibited by his portrayal in this film

  • @TheSeanracer And I think its preposterous to assume that a member of one race must be portrayed by a member of that race. It would provide realism, but it isn't necessary in film. Though it should be preferred, I think. Anyway, Mickey Rooney's character doesn't use "cartoony characteristics to point fun of a group of people," he uses cartoon-like characteristics to portray a character that's meant to be funny. He isn't targeting every Japanese male out there, and if you believe

  • @TheSeanracer that, I'd contest your belief. If you think seeing a portrayal of one individual means that said portrayal is portraying or mocking everyone of a particular race, then you better go crusade against White Chicks and every other movie that every played puns on things regarding race. Gee, that would be an uphill battle, with dirt on everyone, of almost every race. See what I mean?

  • @TheSeanracer Oh and I think black face was absurd. That was different than this in some regards. Black face occurred in times of particular hard segregation and discrimination, and was used specifically to cause people to laugh at blacks en masse. It was done in absolutely horrid taste, specifically to point out lips and noses of black people, in a time in which a black person couldn't act on stage or in films as much as they can today. That is markedly different than what's going

  • @TheSeanracer in Rooney's singular portrayal of an aloof, goofy character.

  • @TheSeanracer And considering the still-prevalent racism, segregation and discrimination going on in Japan to this day, (whites are called geijin in a derogatory manner, and Japan won't accept most third worlders to become citizens), I think this one portrayal of a comical Japanese man who has glasses and large teeth in no way can be defined as racism, unless you decide to change the meaning of racism to fit your beliefs.

  • @TheSeanracer I was looking up the random house dictionary. Shall I also look up Merriam-Webster's to prove my point, or shall I just use your subjective dictionary?

  • @TheSeanracer And somehow I fail to see how showcasing an authentically ugly, buck-toothed, glasses-wearing Japanese man to play the role of a goofy, comedic character is any different than using the obviously easier-to-use Rooney. "Casting call: looking for buck-toothed Japanese man with glasses who is clumsy and goofy and speaks English poorly." Yeah.

  • @TheSeanracer Aye, I read your last comment since I replied, I see that you meant soliloquy now. Anyway, I'm not "protecting" this movie, rather I'm trying to defend my position that it's not racist (perhaps you could call it brutish, even bad in taste) in any definition of the word. Mickey Rooney's character isn't an "everyman" for the Japanese, you aren't supposed to believe he is. If one did think that, and based their notion of Japanese males off of this movie, they'd be fools.

  • @TheSeanracer to see how simply defending my thoughts with attempting logical arguments is classified as making me an "idiot." But I do seem name-calling as being foolish, so perhaps that would make you a non-retarded idiot. Perhaps by your own example provided here, you show to no one particular that it is you who is idiotic, or foolish, and not me. Unless by calling me an idiot you merely meant to say that anyone who doesn't agree with you is an idiot, and if so, then you must be

  • @TheSeanracer either a genius or overly defensive, if anyone who disagrees with you is an idiot. . Note that I didn't call you an idiot. I merely posed a scenario, a question, a progression of logic.

  • hahaha.. i just came here because of /watch?v=3RGiepIoOt8

  • @redplanesarefun and to type something rather immature such as "No wonder Americans have a reputation for being idiots... " That's right up there in awesome logic power with "everyone who doesn't agree with me is a racist."

  • quite fairly in relation to gender, though not equally, as those are two completely different things, equality and fairness.

  • Oh, but I would like to hear someone actually respond to what I said about that school district in Arizona who's going to base their entire punishment system around race, so more well-behaved kids will receive more punishments simply because they're the majority, while a more problematic minority will be excused on more incidents that deserve punishment. I'd like to hear a response to that as well as a response to that activist feminist bill that demands women get paid more, even though jobs pay

  • be able to respond to people weakly reaffirming their own attitudes by immaturely insulting me to people they believe agree with them. Gosh, I'm really going to be missing out.

  • I forget that traditional argument does nothing with people on youtube, as even anonymously people want to defend their ego to the point of never addressing an actual argument for fear of being "incorrect" or some other weak thing that many people do. Just call anyone who doesn't agree an idiot, while complaining of racism/bigotry in one instance and practicing it in the next. Awesome what people have shown me about themselves. Alright, I've got a paper to type, I'm off of here to no longer

  • @Tripo1iSamson Are you okay? I'm serious.. you seem a bit unbalanced. The truth hurts, but just take it easy... it's just the internet.. it's just the internet

  • @TheSeanracer Disagreeing isn't immature or wrong, but it can be said that insulting while refusing to debate points with attempted reason is. Yeah, "the truth hurts." Even in two sentences you seem to be unable to be original. Night buddy. Keep your beliefs real mature and logical, it's going to help you go far.

  • @TheSeanracer Oh, and I'm sure if you could actually read and debate a single point I state instead of just trying to use your obviously insecure ego, you'd find that I'm not "unbalanced." Though were you even intellectually honest you'd just admit you're only calling me "unbalanced" because I don't see things your way. But I guess the truth hurts too much, huh?

  • @TheSeanracer Now, time for your favorite thing, the all-important last word. Who cares if you prove a point or use logic? It's about who types last to you, isn't it my mature opponent who can't seem to debate? Nighty night. Enjoy some cheap shot in order to make yourself feel better.

  • @Tripo1iSamson Don't really need a comeback when you've already done a great job attacking yourself! Good nite and Merry Christmas, bud!!

  • @TheSeanracer That was a comeback. So explain what exactly I did that was a "great job" of "attacking myself," if that's not too great of a task for you to do. I mean, don't struggle replying, I don't want you to have to face being unable to do simple things other than insults without an explanation.

  • @TheSeanracer By the way, you resorted to asking some guy to not assume you were an idiot simply because you assumed I was an idiot, based on our shared nationality. That is a very mentally weak thought process on your part. And you resorted to high-brow terms such as "idiot" simply because I disagreed with you. You've offered nothing but insults to defend your position. That's not how information is exchanged, or how debates are won.

  • you guys are all nutjobs...

  • @redplanesarefun Right, everyone's a nutjob who doesn't agree with you, who replies to you with more than a few words, who doesn't see things your way. Obviously you're not suffering from the age-old human condition of assuming anyone who doesn't see things your way is a "nutjob." And actually, I don't subscribe to any religions or conspiracy theories, so I'm not sure if I fit your description of "nutjob."

  • no i thought it was terrible.. not sure why people are going crazy over it.

  • @redplanesarefun eh, it wasn't anything amazing. Boring at times.

  • and will attempt to retaliate by essentially becoming racist themselves. "Sorry Billy, I know you didn't really do anything, but since we base our punishments on race, we have to punish you because you're white." "Yeah Jamal, I would write you up for cursing, but that'd exceed my quota of black kids to write up, and I'd be deemed a racist and fired." Wow, it is so backwards.

  • Wow.. some people REALLY love Breakfast at Tiffany's

  • that women make less money than men claimed "institutional sexism against women." Gee, okay. And the bill that's being viewed by lawmakers would increase women's pay, to supposedly be "equal." Wait a minute, if I work harder than someone, or better, I don't want "equal" pay. I want "fair" pay. Huge difference. And yet some feminists saw sexism and some government-paid school workers (who are essentially responsible for the increasing worthlessness of our schools) saw institutionalized racism,

  • pay. Other factors may determine payment, such as experience and capability. Anyway, the jobs chosen by the genders tend to be different as well. There are more male business owners, construction company owners, architects, etc, than there are women. And yet, since more women are barbers than men, somebody looked at the data and concluded what? Just like that school district that looked at raw data and declared "institutional racism against blacks in schools," the ACTIVIST FEMINISTS who claimed

  • Needless to say, that's backwards. I went to a mostly black school and can say the black kids tended to break more rules than white kids or Mexican kids. It's just the way it was, it's not "racist" to say so. But a bunch of mostly black government and school workers in Arizona think so. Gee. And a new study stated that "women only make 70 cents to every dollar a man makes." Wait a minute. If I'm paid a wage and that wage is the same for a woman who has the same job, then we're receiving equal

  • treatment for various minorities in certain aspects, as it assumes America or Americans are just inherently racist but nobody else in the world is. Take this school district in Arizona that noted that it's black minority in its schools received more punishments than white children in the same school. Their idea? That the school system is inherently racist and thus all punishments must revolve around race, so if whites make up 60 percent of the school, they need that much punishment.

  • and is overly concerned about disproving her racism in the negative by constantly affirming "non racist" ways which means she has to constantly try to "fit in" anytime she's with black people, which causes her to be disingenuous. I've also seen those white kids who just start verbally whipping themselves for their vague knowledge of history whenever they meet a black person, and it just gets old, and it's also absurdly illogical. I've also noticed that "social equality" tends to equal special

  • are inherently already guilty for things that happened to blacks in the past. It's laughably illogical. I've seen a white chick look me dead in the eye and tell me "but white people ARE inexpressive and have no style" while she was trying to get me to watch Katt Williams, who I simply don't find funny. When I suggested checking out George Lopez or that white guy who died of cancer, that comedian whatshisface, she said she didn't want to see them. Because they aren't black. Because she's white,

  • By the way some interesting studies have suggested that Americans tend to obsess about race and feel overly guilty in inappropriate ways. The term "white guilt" may be apt in some instances, but it can apply to anyone, it's just plain old guilt. "My country made a movie that showed a Japanese character who had big teeth and thick glasses so that is automatically racist and I feel bad about it." You can see this backwardness today in many white school kids, who grow up believing that they are

  • Both GooGoo32 and Xersost have stated that anyone who can't see racism in this movie is racist themselves. That kind of logical fallacy attack is age old and completely immature. "My opponent can't agree with me, therefore they are guilty of x." "My opponent doesn't agree with me on X, so he is Y." Yeah, real cool. Real deep and concise, that. "See racism where I do or else you are racist!!!!1111!!11!!1oneone1!!!one!!!!"

  • i only like the party scene from this movie

  • @toefloss thats my favorite part too.

  • how dare a caucasian play a comical asian stereotyped character! I mean, what sort of evil dark racism is that? That's nowhere near the innocence and comical genius of such Hollywood gems as White Chicks........<------sarcasm

  • @Tripo1iSamson thank you for pointing this out. today it is wrong to make fun of any race but whites. White Chicks was a horrible movie and disgusting costuming and it was very racist. Why isn't anyone outraged?

  • @elpisdoll Mores and tropes of our woeful time, I guess.

  • here we go, a bunch of whiny bullshit about racism. Whine whine whine, whine whine whine. Whiney whiney whine, whine whine. Fuck the whining already. If you're offended, shove it up your arse. This movie was clever and or funny. Stop your bitching now.

  • i love and adore breakfast at tiffanys, but every scene with mickey rooney made me cringe. i felt embarrassed for the japanese and also for mickey rooney. nice that he apologized for it later, though.

  • Mickey Rooney has since apologised and expressed regret for his role in the movie as Mr Yunioshi, and also it was really just the prevailing trend of the time. We've all made some racist comment or another some time in our lives, most of us don't mean it, we're just having a laugh, so why take it so seriously? I'm Asian and I found Rooney's performance quite funny.

  • Mickey Rooney's portrayal is absolutely racist. It's also the only redeeming part of the film. Sorry, but this film sucks.

  • Anyone who doesnt think Mickey Roonie's character ISN'T racist is actually racists. Sorry...but you should be able to know the difference folks. The movie would otherwise be perfect, in my opinion.

  • @GooGoo32 too many double negatives...

  • @Benchiladas Thanks for the grammar lesson, Dear. You are correct.

  • just confused.

  • @GooGoo32 Let me geuss, you are asian?

  • @cooltroop2 Let me guess, you are stupid. What difference does it make anyway? Racism is racism.

  • @GooGoo32 IT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE!!!! YOU ARE ASIAN, I KNOW IT!!!

  • @cooltroop2 You don't know shit. Go outside, travel and learn something.

  • @GooGoo32 "Anyone who doesnt think Mickey Roonie's character ISN'T racist is actually racists. " Oh, a classic one there, mate. I've heard that one before: anyone who doesn't declare x as racist is racist.

  • @Tripo1iSamson because its obviously racist. how can you NOT see it? Thats my question.

  • @GooGoo32 I can see how oversensitive pop culture can cause people to see vicious racism in everything. Shit, in the 1960's, a feminist saw sexism in biology. So people see what they want to, but really, there's a line where it's just whiny and pointless to be so uppitty, especially when it's so selective.

  • @Tripo1iSamson People who can't see racism actually are racist; it has nothing to do with being whiny or sensitive. Since it's done in the sake of entertainment, most people view it as benign. But regardless, Breakfast at Tiffany's is a terrible movie, racism or not.

  • @Xersost supremacy and does nothing to exclude anyone from doing anything. Mind you, before even this movie was made many Americans, filmmakers included, would've given their left nut to get Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune into an American movie, which eventually happened. That aside, you're being oversensitive and rather immature by insinuating I'm racist for admitting that not every time period holds the same beliefs and politically correct/racially oversensitive views. Why don't you go

  • @Xersost denounce "White Chicks" or that movie about a Latina marrying a black that is nothing but stereotypes? Why don't you go denounce those modern movies? What about those movies that consistently portray whites as goofy inexpressive people who are scared around black people? Like Eugene Levi in that movie with Snoop Dogg? Hmmm? So shove it. Quit your whining.

  • @Xersost And yeah, a lotta people don't think this movie is amazing, but it made me laugh a bit, because I don't see racism at every corner. People can take jokes. Some Japanese guy watching Breakfast at Tiffany's doesn't immediately feel heartbroken and enraged at a single actor, and if one Japanese man did, he may be oversensitive. People are so easily offended that it's no wonder there's a double standard in movies: don't portray blacks as effeminate because that would

  • @Tripo1iSamson Damn.. Tripol, you have a life? You responded to a comment within a minute...

  • @TheSeanracer No wonder Americans have a reputation for being idiots... he's just digging a hole for himself now.

  • @redplanesarefun Well not all of us are like this.. please don't judge us based on this one idiot.

  • @TheSeanracer so you immediately resort to calling someone who disagrees with you "an idiot." You also have a Freudian slip of "please don't judge (all) based on..." Wow, do you judge entire nations based on one individual? Is that how you'd like your nation to be judged? How come you think it's okay for redplanesarefun to judge people he doesn't know and hasn't met, en masse, with a blanket statement? That seems backward to me, and rather illogical, and poorly thought out.

  • @TheSeanracer If you look at it abstractly enough, I don't resort to insults to defend a position, and I defend a position with points rather than insults. On the other hand, you expressed insecurity to redplanesarefun, who himself seems bigoted, begging him to not judge "us" (all Americans) based on what I've said. If anything, it seems you've shown your weak mentality and insecure ideas for all to see. So if anyone's "judging" entire nations here, haven't you just given

  • @Tripo1iSamson Just calling a spade a spade, man. Sorry, I just assumed you were an American... defensiveness, sensitivity to being called a racist, lengthy responses to a simple reply.. sorry those are just clear "American" stereotypes.

  • @TheSeanracer me I am automatically an idiot and an American. Gee, you reflect your own attitudes really admirable.

  • @TheSeanracer Oh, and debating isn't necessarily "defensive," it was a thing people did before they insulted during disagreements. "Lengthy responses to a simple reply," lol, you call someone an idiot and say "no wonder Americans are called idiots," and you don't like getting a long response. Perhaps if they were read aloud to you while someone wiped your butt for you, you'd be happier. Deep thinkers such as yourself can't be bothered arguing points made in said "lengthy responses"

  • @TheSeanracer and would rather address the syntax of those statements or their qualities, or address your own biases, such as "no wonder all Americans are racist."

  • @TheSeanracer "sensitivity to being called a racist....those are just clear "American" stereotypes." Oh, and people in the UK are carefree when called a racist? People in Guatemala don't care if someone else constantly rants about them being a racist? Oh okay, I didn't know that everyone in the world is okay incorrectly being called a racist by some insulting person other than Americans. Thanks for enlightening me.

  • @TheSeanracer a person (someone who judges entire nationalities based on one person) a reason to believe Americans are insecure and are concerned with how a bigoted person who insults entire nationalities (openly) thinks of them and that all Americans resort to name calling during disagreements? Or are you simply going to not acknowledge what I've just asked, or is it perhaps over your head? Thanks for insulting while arguing as well as being really weak of constitution, though.

  • @Tripo1iSamson Actually, you're doing a great job doing that yourself. I've noticed your paragraph responses... looks like someone is trying to hard to justify their stance. Keep trying, bud!

  • @TheSeanracer to insult rather than try to use logic to defend your position. Great job at insulting entire nations, though, that's very mature and obviously in 2011 that's a welcome thing to do. Thanks for showing me that you don't know how to defend your position while also at the same time revealing the total lack of brain activity of those who insult rather than use logic to debate. If you provided a decent argument that was true, I would change my view. I wish the same could

  • @TheSeanracer said for you. "Looks like someone is trying to hard to justify their stance." About that thing you said about Americans being idiots, I think you meant "too," and not "to." Oh, and when you said "someone is trying," why didn't you say who, or my name? Just "someone is trying to justify." Do you often passive aggressively reference other people? Or is this the first time, my mature friend?

  • @redplanesarefun Americans have a reputation for being idiots because people in the world are bigots sometimes, and because America's so talked about and referenced that people tend to be cynical of the nation merely because that's "cool" and "awesome" and "enlightened" to do. But thanks for saying "No wonder Americans have a reputation for being idiots." You're obviously not into bigotry or blanket statements about people you don't know. You're really awesome and original, too.

  • @redplanesarefun Oh, and instead of childishly referencing me in an insulting way (as well as insulting all Americans) to someone else who you assume agrees with you or is of a like mind, why don't you personally try to address my points? Why don't you actually act like a civilized person instead of trying to be a kid who can't reason? Or do you pride yourself on insulting anyone who doesn't think like you? That's a very sad characteristic to have, did you know that?

  • @redplanesarefun Maybe you'll just pull out the ultimate mature card and just call me a "racist" or something else while hiding behind some kind of vague moral or something similar. You're really admirable, you handle your disagreements so maturely it's a surprising refreshment from the usual youtube ways of people who are childlike, insulting, immature, and weak of mind and reason.

  • @TheSeanracer It was a coincidence that I was online, but I appreciate your personal and petty attempts at insult because you're apparently the type who insults strangers. Man, you are so cool and enlightened!

  • @Xersost somehow be racist, so these overly-masculine typically "ebonic" "urban" black people are portrayed, which is actually a huge misrepresentation as well as a disrespect to non-"urban" non-"ebonic" non-"verbally inarticulate" black people. Perhaps you don't see that or can't grasp it. Perhaps you think it's fine that often times whenever a black person walks onscreen a white is portrayed as weak and being a "fish-out-of-water," and perhaps you don't care when you see such.

  • @Xersost If I see some white guy tell a Japanese man he can't eat somewhere because he's Japanese, I can see racism. If I see blacks jump a white kid because they know he's "easy" to rob like I've seen at my high school, I know it's racism. When I see light-hearted humor from anyone, I tone it down, and relax. That's why I'm NOT on a crusade about "White Chicks" or against BET or this movie or any movie that shows stereotypes. Why? Because in stereotypes can be truth, or humor, so it's

  • @Xersost a tool to be used in comedy, drama, anything. Anyway, thanks for insinuating that I'm racist or that I can't understand your argument because YOU assumed I liked this movie.

  • @GooGoo32 He doesn't see it because he actually likes Breakfast at Tiffany's... at that point, you just kind of give up a person.

  • @Xersost actually I don't particularly enjoy this movie, though I appreciate your mature personal "attacks." My turn: you're a seriously whiny bitch.

  • I don't think Truman Capote won a Nobel Prize.

  • @euler271818 You are asbolutely correct!

  • Sean Connery slaps bitches as 007, so Bond movies are all bad because they are sexist, right?

  • @SickOmega lol Bond movies are sexist. Fun and funny but very sexist. Its okay to call things as they are.

  • Well then make a better film, you humourless dweebs! .

  • I always laugh at Mickey's portrayal of a Jap landlord. In my defense though I always hate myself for it an hour later.

  • Breakfast At Tiffany's is one of those special films that draws out my hate. The Mickey Rooney in "Yellowface", as horrifying as it is, is really just the tip of the iceberg. Hepburn's role as some shallow fop who drools over expensive jewelry, combined with the fact that huge amounts of women hold her up as some feminine ideal, insults the very core of intelligence.

Audrey Hepburn is definitely one of our most overrated movie-stars.

  • It's rather hilarious that such an association exists. What really makes a good film or a bad film is purely arbitrary. It's not a disease to like a film regardless of critical dismay or acclaim. Henry Mancini cannot be easily dismissed as "boring" just because it doesn't swoon you in today's context of what makes a good contemporary score. Rooney's role was sheer comedy. And you over-think it.

  • @bonChic20 Mickey Rooney's role in Breakfast at Tiffany's is RACIST. By dismissing his performance as 'sheer comedy' you are giving a pass to racism against Asian people.

It doesn't matter that Mickey Rooney's character is merely an annoying neighbor. He's a racist caricature of an Asian person. Then he's an annoying neighbor.

Why is Rooney's role racist? Because Rooney isn't Asian. The Asian character that he portrays looks like a character out of an Asian-hating WW2 propaganda comic book.

  • @mp197400 I am thoroughly aware of that and I'm of asian descent, actually - but if you look at other Blake Edwards titles - you'd see that act by Rooney is analogous to Edwards style of comedy. Edwards - we all know how outrageous his comedy is. I won't be surprised if he dressed Audrey Hepburn in a pink catsuit, with a tail. And if it was indeed racist, at least, it brought a footnote to the history of filmmaking - not to do it again and sensitivity to race is important

  • @mp197400 It was purely comedy that's all.......That is like claiming the Wayne's brother's are racist for doing "White Chic's". You don't see white people running around crying about it.....I'm so sick of other races screaming racism when ever white people mock other cultures but it's perfectly okay for the other races doing skit's about whites and cracker this and cracker that........People are so fucking sensitive that it's getting ridiculous

  • @M3TurboE46 I bet you're white....

  • @dp9eagle13 Latino homie

  • @dp9eagle13 what difference does it make?

  • @Sliceofcheesewithegg makes no difference at all. it's just many white people tend to be oblivious to obvious racism... it's not your fault, you can't help the way you think and I won't judge you for it.

  • @dp9eagle13 now your being racist.

  • @bonChic20 Also the point about 'Moon River' is a completely incidental and superficial joke. It doesn't matter if it's boring or not.

  • @mp197400 you have a valid point in that, I'm not going to say "Moon River" was a substantial piece of work from Mancini, yet it bagged merits from the Oscars, winning 'song of the year' and though mournful as it may sound, actually worked in the movie. I don't think moon river would be what it was then and now, had it been for the movie, otherwise.

  • That was stupid! Breakfast at Tiffanys is THE GREATEST FILM OF ALL TIME! Moon River is a classic and you can hardly call Mickey Rooney a racist, he is playing a character, being told by a director to do that

  • @MusicalsFan15 Greatest Film of All Time is pretty high praise for this film. I think Audrey Hepburn looks great and that the sets and costumes make you want to move to New York.

But there's no way they would make this movie today with Rooney's racist Asian character. People who love this film whitewash their own memories of it in order to concentrate (rightly so) on the Hepburn character. After seeing your comment I checked on the wiki, and even the director wishes he'd recast the role.

  • @MusicalsFan15 Almost took you seriously til you said Breakfast at Tiffanys is the greatest film of all time. rofl
