I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Mercedes vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and EFi injectors clean as new!
@MrMrPaparazzi I did not had any problems since i bought it. thats like last 4 years. and im driving aggressive. So i can say in my case it is reliable.
I just don't know why Jaguar didn't just put an updated version of this engine when they made the decision to revive the S Type. That 3.0 was one nasty engine, took away from the regular silky smoothness that Jag is well known for.
Nice car BTW. I can see that the valvetrain noise is further accentuated by the camera so I doubt it's a real biggie.
hear in england we can pick them up for as little as £500 ruffly $750 on e bay but be kerfull the timing chain rattles on higher mileage cars or when they have had some hammer
I`ve tried to do video clips of my Jaguars engines with the bonnet open, but it always sounds tappety & you dont hear the bass either, so I dont upload them.
It sounds fine - just like mine. It's the injectors you can hear clicking, it's absolutely normal. It is a really early primative injection system, thats all
I was in service last week. Jaguar technician sad that everything is ok. So maybe kamera mic make some noise of machine sound. I recorded with JVC ZD710
6000 rpm of a jag my dad who had a 1987 jaguar got 7000 out of it but still to many revs

Nice car , take care of it . Maybe a valve or something needs adjusting or something is loose in the engine .
fontheking5 3 years ago
Thanks. But what adjusting? Car goes on service every year. Ill ask them
xyperox 3 years ago
sounds like you have a valve that needs adjusting or are the injectors really that loud? mine does the same thing. I've got a 91 4.0 Any ideas?
DQ81 3 years ago
I thinkg that dont needs adjusting. Inside the car is no sound and outside i like the sound of big engine otherwise ill should buy some toyota...
