  • i just turned 18 and iv always shoot the same as you :)

  • Ears should be between knees and ankle if looking from the side.

  • Do you sell guns.

  • this video is pretty hilarious to watch with the sound off...

  • Clear gun, you say? I think I saw a casing fall :P

  • i thought this was about basketball.... fml

  • Burp @ 9:29!!!!

  • MR.Hickok, What's up with your gun vids? No heavy metal music blasting away, no "tactical clothing", no lights, lasers, bayonets, fancy futuristic stocks.and, where are all your tattoos? And why aren't you bashin the government?A seemingly normal guy, having good clean fun with firearms? well, that's just weird.

  • 3:05 OMG that is soooo 80's detective stance in the movies! hahaha

  • Hey hickock, did you say that you use your left eye when sighting down the pistol?

  • PEW! POW! YOU GOT HIM! or you miss him... Best part!

  • 2:54... sooo... we have a clear gun here... *bullet ejects*... NOW we have a clear gun. haha good thing you did that safety check right?

  • Great video!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Honestly, I think you're a freak Hickok45, as in freaking awesome. Thank you so much. Thumbs up!

  • "pew, got iiiiim, or missed iiiiiim."

  • Hickock do you prefer IWB mag clips or OWB?

  • I usually shoot in the isosceles stance but I may try the weaver in the future. Great video.

  • lol yeah, i saw that round fall out.. :-p, love your videos man, glad that i can check out these oldies. keep it up.

  • Hickok need help! I am almost sixty and find my hands now tremble a bit, making it uncomfortable and impossible to shoot accurately. Use to be I could hit dead center with one hand and a .45 at 15 yds. I don't have Parkinsons! Any suggestions on arm position or grip. Or is it just lack of practice? Always enjoy your videos.

  • Thanks for posting sir!

  • can you do a rap video?

  • you are a top shooter in the country!

  • hey hickok, PLEASE do a video about target transition thx

  • Hickok, the ok doesnt stand for oklahoma does it? and I love what you did at 2:55 hahaha

  • @ST15LE beyond belief that you don't know who Hickok was!

  • @ST15LE I thought the same thing when I first started watching his vids. He's actually from Tennessee. I think the Hickok thing is in reference to Wild Bill Hickok. The .45 is of course .45 caliber.

  • also im tryin to do an online assignment for college you old coot! stop having great videos. i could be done with my assignment! :D

  • imagine the smile on my face when i find hickock teeching me to shoot my glock! bought my g17 over the summer and im getting bored of just shooting at paper, time to learn how to hit things

  • Thxs for another well done vid ;)

  • Are you left eye dominant? Do you close your other eye when shooting a handgun?

  • Very informative and presented in an easy comprehend manner. Sometime people don't focus on the basics and think it's the guns fault they are not shooting well.

  • Brilliant- modest and effective. Thank you.

  • hey hickok45 why dont you make a video of the ruger p345??.....by the way i like the video you made of the springfield sub compact 9 mm...... :)

  • Comment removed

  • this man is like the shooting encyclopedia, every time I ask a question on youtube firearms related, he has a video of it. It's like kids telling you "Oh mythbusters did that" keep it up hickok45

  • Fundamentals, Fundamentals, Fundamentals. Great job Hickok45!

  • why do you shoot right handed and aim with your left? are you left-eye dominant?

  • Perfect illustration of why you always treat a gun like its loaded.....

    great video Hickok.

  • all you new shooters out there listen to what this man is saying

  • I love you..

    I mean, what? ;-)

  • Hey I got a question I am new to handguns... I am left eye dominant and right handed and I have been reading that you are supposed to shoot with both eyes open... this seems to be a problem with me since I habitually close my left eye... I shoot accurately with 1 eye closed but I want to learn how to shoot with both eyes open, any suggestions? When I open both eyes and look at the target I see 2 guns.. if I focus on the sights I see double/blurry targets. Thank you

  • @MeLlamoBradly me 2, if i keep both open, i see 2 of everything

  • @BlurConfusion take my advice with a grain of salt, cause I don't know shit... but I have found that if you focus on the target you will see double guns, but if you use your peripheral vision and line up the sights on the right gun and aim (you will still see 2 guns, but the one on the right you will be looking down the barrel, the one on the left will be at an angle (or vise versa I'm left eye dominant and position my body/angle my head so that the gun is in front of my left eye.

  • I"ve been practicing this with an airsoft gun and it works great, it takes a little practice though becuase it can get confusing... but I may be completely wrong there might be another way, I just can't get any decent advice

  • @BlurConfusion I"ve been practicing this with an airsoft gun and it works great, it takes a little practice though becuase it can get confusing... but I may be completely wrong there might be another way, I just can't get any decent advice

  • Jon burping at 9:30 LOL

  • @SKMYBAZZJACK Lol, don't even put hickok in the same category as lamenboring, erm.. nutnfancy.

  • are u an IPSC member?

  • Hickok, my mom is single... would you like me to send you her picture?

  • @AdoreYouInAshXI , Sounds great! Except I don't think I'd get my wife's blessing on that. :-)

  • @hickok45 I can ask her if she would be down for a one night stand, erm wait.. nevermind now it's just getting weird.

  • @hickok45 your the best bro. awesome videos.

  • @hickok45 ... accept her, she will make a good target!

  • @hickok45 HAHA GOODONE

  • @joe23ba You mad?

  • @AdoreYouInAshXI

How about you send that picture to me?

  • Dddooooo pow you got him or you missed him, great sound effects. as a new shooter at age 36, i appreciate these vids, wife and i are going to conceal carry now that we've moved from the north to the south, Georgia! not sure if for my first gun it will be a glock26 or the XD, have only shot the glock thus far but like the added safety features being new...we'll see. anyways THANK YOU!

  • @nebula25x LOL ive always just had my left eye open always close my right eye. And i cant shoot left handed for shet. Never actually thought about it just did it automatically. lol so does this mean were defective shooters? hahaha

  • @nebula25x ohhh..i see. Well ive always been a rifle kinda guy and its always been real simple and easy to shoot for me.

  • you and I share the EXACT same stance! Im also cross eye dominant in my left eye and right handed and use a modified weaver stance. the only major difference in my stance is that I use a weight forward position due to using it for rifles.

good video for the new guys out there!

  • Hickok So you are a left eye dominate right handed shooter like me? Can you maybe one day show some tips on this subject? I myself am left eye dominate and people have told me I need to switch to lefty, but verse what others say I have learn to squint my non dominate eye partially to make up for it, even though most people say I need to keep both eyes fully open for full peripheral vision. I just would love to hear what you have to say on this.

  • @Kenman540 Are left eye dominant right handed shooters rare or special or something? i never thought much about it but recently seen alot of comments saying something about this...im also left eye dom, right hand shooter. What does this mean?

  • I heard they dropped Hickok off in Pakistan at the bin Laden compound. He walked out and they found a pile of bodies, 2987 spent casings, and a pile of Glocks that numbered around 80, according to MSNBC.

  • Really enjoy your vids, hickok45. Not only that, but you seem like a real decent person.

I'm a Glock-lovin', right handed, left eye dominant guy and I've been practicing shooting with both eyes open recently.

Do you close your right eye when you shoot?

  • you are extremely humble

  • This is actually a better overview on stance than most police department recruits get prior to being sworn in. I know it was better than what I got back in my LEO days. Keep it up, great series!

  • Hickok45, Another cross dominant dummie here. This is an awesome series!

  • Now I'm not sure but I think that when it comes to law enforcement they stopped using the weaver stance, because it wasn't the best for keeping someone alive.

  • you are the man

  • im left handed and i use my left eye... am i normal? great tips

  • good point @5:00. i was taught to stand square to the target (while using a service rifle) because you want your rifle plates facing your enemy as much as possible. slim to no protection for your sides...

  • Crap! I'm left eye dominant like you are too! I used to always close one eye when I shot, but with them both open, I keep seeing through my left eye.

  • Did the cameraman burp at 9:28???

  • does using your left eye help you line up your sight picture better? my instructor told me to keep both eyes open but i just can't seem to get it

  • @DaV00D00Tr0ll For targets inside of ten yards (home defense range), keep both eyes open. If your other fundamentals are good, you are not going to miss because your eyes are open, and you won't lose your vision to the sides. If you get further back I find one eye closed is helpful. Check out my channel, I have ten shooting lessons I made for my mother when she bought her first gun, since I am stationed in another state (active duty army) and unable to teach her myself.

  • I'm right handed and use my left eye as well. "Cross-eye dominant" I believe its called. Thanks for all the great videos hickok!

  • Really appreciate your videos...except I keep buying new pistols...Soon im going to need a second safe lol

  • Do these techniques apply to modern military class rifles as well?

  • You should try out for that show on the history channel called top shot I think you would probably win

  • He is a retired officer from gulf war!!

  • "Doing something wright"? like hitting the target almost every time!

  • People who pick apart others videos need to spend more time making their own then picking apart others.

  • I tried your modified weaver stance and it works really well for me. Thanks for the tip

  • great tip... you're not worried about ricochet off those metal targets? SOUNDS fun, but I'd be scared to death about ricochet.

  • Thanks for taking the time to teach the real basics for those of us who need it. I really enjoy your channel & i hope theres alot more to come.

  • Sorry if I missed this, but do you keep both eyes open to aim or aim with just the dominant eye open?

  • I do the custom weaver stance just like you but I use my right eye

  • I don't think that using the Weaver stance is a bad idea, but I disagree with the claim that it makes you less vulnerable to incoming rounds. Comparing it against the isosceles stance in front of a mirror I don't think it significantly reduces your silhouette and your organs are no better protected from any rounds that do connect.

  • I haven't seen all your videos yet, may I ask what does Mr Hickok do for a living? Just curious. You seem like a pretty sharp customer. Retired Military?

  • @JetMechMA , Thanks, but if you think I'm pretty "sharp," you might need to get out more and meet more people. :-)

  • @JetMechMA I don't know why Hickok didn't answer you mate...

  • @ChesterDoraemon , You Think! Running and gunning is much more fun, too, right? :-)

  • @ChesterDoraemon Fat guys are bigger targets too, tho you need piercing ammunation to shoot them :D

  • @ChesterDoraemon ... lol

  • @ChesterDoraemon Nope the rule is RTR Return fire, Take cover, Return appropriate fire.

  • @ChesterDoraemon Oh he's about a fourth your weight maybe :0

  • @ChesterDoraemon You are wrong. You use cover, you never run and gun. Best way to stay alive is have less of your body exposed to the enemy than they have exposed to you and chop them down with accurate fire from a supported position. Least thats what the ARMY im in teaches and they have been figuring it out since 1775.

  • hello, i am 15 and i am thinking on getting my minors firearms liscence soon, what would you reccomend for a starter gun?

  • @xXoBliiViOnXx SKS. Russian, can pick one up for $200. Ammo is $200 for a box of 1000, pretty good gun... 10 round internal box mag, you load it with stripper clips. Its got a bayonet attached to it that folds, wooden stock... Mine's a 1950 soviet one, its my first one and I'm 16 but I've shot AR15, M14, SVT40, CZ858, M92fs, 1911, a 9mm glock, some random .22 handgun, and a benelli nova 12 gauge

  • @xXoBliiViOnXx Start on a .22 pistol. I know we all want something big & bad but learn your basics on a .22. They have almost no recoil and ammo is super cheap. I once bought 1000 rounds for $15. With ammo that cheap you can shoot a lot with low recoil. You'll have excellent control & aim by the time you move up to a 9mm. I started on 9mm & went down to .22. Once i got my basics (stance, grip, aim, etc) I went back to 9mm & was poppin water jugs like nothin'. Plus they're just fun.

  • @ChesterDoraemon Dude, there are lots of them out there who thumbs you down but ima gonna thumb you up because you made me laugh out loud with your comment, LMAO..

  • @ChesterDoraemon Talking from experience are we.....no! Thought not!

  • @ChesterDoraemon Bob munden isn't the skinniest man around and id like to see who would win in a gun fight with yall too since " fat people at gun ranges will ALWAYS die in a gunfight" .... ha thats so un thought out i dont even know how to start commenting on this. you should look into getting a new life coach ...

  • @havenp01 and i need a spelling coach.

  • @ChesterDoraemon That's a fantastic way to get killed!

  • Ohhh!! I get it now! I've been doing it wrong. I was using a TRACY Chapman stance.

    ;-D

    Superb vid, as ever!

  • "fall over and throw a spear at the ceiling" I think that's hilarious!

  • @koky5150 throw his beer in the ceiling. not a spear

  • Thanks for sharing your experience and enthusiasm.

  • whenever i shoot, if i mess up my form a little, my dad yells at me. he knows what hes doing, and he's a cop

  • you should apply for history's top shot

  • @hickok45 on my next range session I will continue using your style of shooting and extend my shooting distance from 20 meters to 25 and beyond to see what happens. Thank you for the great videos

  • @hickok45 Just came from the range and fired 216 rounds. I cannot thank you enough sir. I am right handed but left eye dominant. I always shot using the isosceles stance with my right eye closed because I coudnt shoot with both eyes open using that stance. I saw this video and tried the weaver stance today at the range with both eyes open, shooting like you. I immediately noticed a huge difference in sight visibility 2 eyes open, and once i focused on trigger control I was twice as accurate.

  • great video thank you for sharing your knowledge =)

im from australia, we never get to touch guns unless we are in the police, defence force, or part of a gun club.

I love guns, reason why im going to join the police force and army haha

  • I am right handed left eyed. You said you use your left eye in this video. Do you keep both eyes open? I shoot long guns left handed. It is a lot less bother to shoot handguns right handed. I am just getting into pistols now that I have retired and your vids are very helpful and instructional. Thanks for doing them.

    kwc

    socal

  • man being cross eye dominant must be a bitch!

  • Very informative Video, thank you very much Mr. Hickok

  • I have a colt 45 and I find that I am more accurate when I shoot with one hand vs. two. Is there a reason for this? I would think a two handed shot would be better.

  • Thanks for the lesson

  • Thank you hickok45 very much for all your time that you spend making all the videos. I look for new ones everyday.Im a shooter and hunter as well im not to far from you just south of chattanooga across the georgia line................

  • @BoringBoris , Thanks.

  • this is coming from an amateur at best... but i think the weaver stance would really be anyone's best bet.

simple reason: it's the same stance you use for shooting a shotgun or rifle, and it's the same stance you use in fighting (at least boxing, kickboxing, and muay thai)

also i understand how the isosceles could help with a vest, but it seems to me you just expose your vitals that way and are more likely to be knocked down if/when shot. though that's the stance i see most police take

  • I use a combination of both the weaver and the isosceles, the top of my body is in the isosceles stance, hunched over squared up. the lower half of my body is weaver style, legs slightly bent and left foot placed forward. meanwhile, my strong arm is locked and my support arm is either bent or locked depending on distance of my target, bent for close range and locked for longer range for my stability. It may not be right, but its what works for me.

  • lol 3:52

  • @frickboss LOL 6:18

  • who's this rob leatham?

  • @gravedigr12 he knows a ton, i say its more like he is chuck norris's dad!

  • Great vid.. and here's my 2 cents, the Isosceles is the more consistent stance for purely shooting, but the Weaver is more instinctive and better for close range gun fighting due to the stability factor. What I like to use is a combined Weaver/Isosceles, where the top have of my body is in the more aggressive and less upright version of the Isosceles formation but my feet are positioned in the Weaver. I find it's the best of both worlds. In the end I think what works for the individual is best.

  • always good to see sombody trying to help others better themselves god knows I could use some help with my pistol shooting I'm an OK pistol shot (qualified expert on the M-9 in the Army but that is piss easy) and a prety damn good rifle shot if I do say so myself bu I digress, I will definetly keep these videos in mind next time I am at the range.

PS If only I could walk around with my rifle without sombody calling the cops I wouldent need to worry about all this conceald carry crap

  • I've been in the military for 20 years and these are very good tips you're passing on in this series. I agree with you that there is no perfect stance/hold, it should be what is most comfortable for you and contributes to more accurate shooting. I'm like you though, I'm right handed and left eye dominant and I shoot best from a modified weaver stance. I'm Air Force, but I've been trained on firearms by the Army also and they advocate the isosceles stance so your sides aren't exposed.

  • i love all you videos man thanks for sharing your knowledge and opinions on guns.. just got my ccw and i defenetly got me a glock 23 thanks

  • @evanthemack I saw that. But if you look closer, whats moving upwards and away from the pistol at the same time you see the round come out?...strange!

  • hello hickock45 i like a lot your videos and i have 2 questions, what do you think about the glock 25 on .380 acp? i live in mexico and thats the top we can own at home, my question is because looking on the net i see that pistol is not on sell in USA, why? is there something wrong with it?

and for last, if i buy the glock 25 on .380 acp i can buy the accesories for make it 9mm, am i wrong? its almost the same than the glock 19 right?

  • you the man hickok

  • Hickok I was curious what inside the waistband holster do you use?

  • @viplayercc Galco Royal Guard.

  • @hickok45

Hello, now there is a LOT of dumb people out there but some of them who i talk to say that "southerners" who actually you their constitutional rights are racists and that they only own so many guns because they are "scared" of minorities. It's a stupid thing to think i know but i'm just curious what would you reply be if someone said that to you?

  • @tubevideoguy762 he'd probably say they're silly. which is correct.

  • Great Videos Hickok, I finally subscribed to ure channel. You think you can make video on how to properly take care of your weapon (clean) Beretta 92A1

  • Thanks, Hickock. I love your vids and am jealous of your fantastic shooting range!! I conceal carry a Glock 19 as well as a S&W 442 .38 spc +P. What ammo/load do you keep in your carry Glock 19? Any other recommendations for ammo/loads for conceal carry? Thanks.

  • 4:45 i like your sound effects hickok, hahaha :D

  • @714JN

Same here lol. I was laughing too. Pew Pew...

  • LOL A fly buzzes the microphone @ 14:25. Great videos, thanks for posting them.

  • @evanthemack , Yep, that made it a "clear gun." :-)

  • @hickok45 Is that what that meant? LOL!

  • @hickok45 HIcklove love the glock videos. I was wondering what inside the waistband holster do you use for you glock 26, or 27

  • @hickok45 HIcklove love the glock videos. I was wondering what inside the waistband holster do you use for you glock 26, or 27

  • @hickok45 i noticed that too.haha i think we've all done that at least once.

  • @hickok45

Hahahahahaha. I love it. Hickok 45 is the best.

  • @hickok45

  • I didn't know people this old still went on Youtube, let alone make videos. I'm not trying to say like to insult you. I'm so glad you do make videos and take your time to do this. Your voice is actually quite calming and it was fun to listen to you talk about this.

  • @CustomWeapons Hickok old?!

He's just in his late 40's.

  • HICKOCK 45 YOUR AWSOME

  • Dude, you are my idol!

  • A lot of good info, hickok45.

  • I just recently started shooting handguns. I had no idea how hard it is to actually hit what you're shooting at. I thought it was just point and shoot, but I really have to focus to hit a target.

  • @drewsky684 , Yeah, I think only those who've shot a little pistol can appreciate how difficult it is, or how easy it is to flinch and miss.

  • @hickok45

Man ain't that the truth. I just went to the range for the first time with my brand new G19 and I found the recoil/noise to be a bit much. I'm a noob so that's understandable and I was getting better towards the end. I have the same Impact Sport ear protection as you btw. The electronic ear protection by Howard.

  • @drewsky684 Me too. I'm shooting a S&W Model 686 with a 5 inch barrel, and I can only get groupings of about 9 inches at 20 feet.

  • Another great video Hickok!

I have always thought of having a good shooting technique similar to having a good basketball shooting technique (especially in the weaver stance)..

...have a good athletic stance(dominate foot slightly back), ball weight all on dominate hand (as if to shoot it with only that hand), bring across second hand for stability, tuck elbow and create a straight line with your arm from your shoulder and to the ball and then to the hoop, then squeeze the shot...very similar :)

  • Loved the video... but I highly recommend getting some hearing protection!

  • OOH THE WISDOM OF THE GREAT HICKOK!!! lol, but what gun are you using?

  • @AirsoftVeteran96 , I think I used a Glock 19 in these videos.

  • very nice infos here ..thanks sir .

  • @RemingtonG3 Is there any story behind your username? Sounds like an interesting buy...

  • @ImWatchinTheTube its remington 1100 g3 my favorite shotgun :)
