  • Text by Yevhen Hrebinka. Music by Florian Herman.

  • VIVA VIOLETTA VILLAS Ochi chernie!!!!!!!!!!

  • I found out about this through a Bugs Bunny cartoon :)

I'm glad I watched it, now I found this music exists :)

The singer has a powerful voice!

  • wonderful just........ wonderful!

  • "Dark Eyes" doesn't just refer to the colour of your eyes but has a deeper meaning ...

  • Wow! This muthafukka can sing!! That big note at 0:42 threw me off the chair!!!

  • Wow I never knew the Russians had translated Panong Hideung to theyre lenguage amazing .

Ismail Marzuki woukd ha e been proud to see his work had received world wide popularity like this

  • though the singer's enthusiasm is evident, he is obviously not russian. he's not pronouncing the words correctly. i keep hearing him say "dark eye" not "dark eyes" which makes you wonder about the one eyed girl who stole his heart.

  • @kea114 ...I assure you he is Russian and a typical one too. He is just pronouncing the words in a more clear and classical style.

  • @kea114 I agree with @BobsArtGallery the singer is definetly Russian; it's quite clear by the way he sings. But I also agree with you there is something wrong with the pronounciation it does make it seem like he is singing about the eyes in singular. Still a very beautiful rendition :)

  • One of the most beautiful folk songs of all time. Universally loved!! There 's even a vodka brand here in the states named after it!!!!

  • I heard this song in eastern promises movie, and now I like it so much.

    Grettings from Perú

  • Quem interpreta???

  • its not dark eyes, in ancient russian language that meant dark ears

  • :-))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

  • I LOVE this song.....but....the eyes aren't dark in most of the pictures...so...like, what's the point? Why have a song about dark eyes, with light-eyed people?

  • @Franzapooch44 ...You´re right...I couldn´t find enough pictures with black eyes girls, but you can close your eyes or imagine they are black !!

  • @BobsArtGallery hehe yeah, to me it's okay .. I really love the end LOL good work! I like your sense of humor :o)

  • @BobsArtGallery lol shaddap

  • @Franzapooch44

Dark doesn't have to mean color man. It could be like deep eyes, or mysterious eyes. You know eyes that just, call you..

  • @Franzapooch44 Actually the title is Black Eyes, not Dark Eyes. And technically it's not Rkussian, it's Ukrainian. But you're right, the models don't have dark eyes, certainly not black eyes.

  • @GARRODANE Actually, it is Dark Eyes because "chernye" used for eyes is "dark" and not "black". And it's Russian, not Ukrainian even if they use "ochi" wich mean "eyes" in old russian.

  • @Franzapooch44 Nobody is here because of the pictures!!!

  • @Franzapooch44 but if there are a lot od people with light eyes, it means that a dark eye girl is something special

  • @Franzapooch44 How dark are eyes to get?

  • @Franzapooch44 Yes, that's true, black eye are rare,he is singing to some thing special and rare to find.

  • where did you get the photos for all fhose beautiful YUMMY women at?

  • @StokesDaddy

Hahaha Cheers on that one, But I'm more concerned about the song version, it's pretty damn awesome!

  • I don't get this. Most of the pics are of people with light eyes.

I LOVE this song. I am Russian myself..but... I still don't get the shots of light eyed people in

    "Ochi Chernie."

  • ΥΠΕΡΟΧΟ!!!

  • who can translate the song as an english??

  • I translated. Go to my channel and listen to the video-joke, "Ochi Chernye". It was the first video, which I made. It is funny, and it was meant, as a joke. But there is English text of the song in my translation.

  • Dobri pesnya

  • Je crains surtout les yeux noirs

    mais j'aime cette chanson!

  • Красивая музыка!,thank you!

  • ..... исполнителя указывать - необязательно ...

  • my comments don't seem to go thru. but anyway, thanks for posting this! unfortuanely i don't know the nam of this singer, but i'd recomment you to check out F. Shalyapin singing this song - it's just the best possible version of all times.

  • F. Shalyapin is a great singer, but his Ochi Chernie is a bit boring comparing to this singer !!....Sorry lady.

  • i guess we'll just agree to differ then :)

  • Please, anybody can tell who's the singer?

  • I wish I could help you Fabio. I bought a homemade CD in Moscow few years back with different Russian songs, and this one was included. I was hoping that a Russian would recognize the singer !!!!!!

  • Thank you anyway. : )

  • @Bronisliva

    Thank you! ^ ^

  • Ochi chyornye, ochi zhguchie

    Ochi strastnye i prekrasnye

Kak lyublyu ya vas, kak boyus' ya vas

Znat' uvidel vas ya ne v dobryi chas

    Ochi chyornye, ochi plamenny

    I manyat oni v strany dal'nye

Gde tsarit lyubov', gde tsarit pokoi

Gde stradan'ya nyet, gde vrazhdy zapryet

  • Thank you Pierre !!

  • It is simply a copy-paste from Wikipedia.

  • LOVE THiS SONG LALALAAA..

  • I like the words of this song, does any body knows who's the poet who wrote it? I'll be thankful if you tell me.

  • The lyrics of the song were written by an Ukrainian poet and writer "Yevhen Hrebinka". The first publication of the poem was in Literaturnaya gazeta on 17 January 1843.

  • The words were subsequently set to Florian Hermann's Valse Hommage (in an arrangement by S. Gerdel') and published as a romance on 7 March 1884.

Although often characterised as a Russian gypsy song, the words and music were written respectively by an Ukrainian and a German. Feodor Chaliapin popularised the song abroad in a version amended by himself.

  • @BobsArtGallery Do not lie. The song is absolutely Russian.

  • @evgenyzhukov ...Lie at what ?

  • Hahahahha its funny cuz on the pics isn´t the eyes dark xD

  • прекрасное исполение

  • My grandpa sings this all the time.

  • ein wunderschönes lied!
