iChat WOULD have been awesome, but is made crap by default because it doesn't connect to the LEADING im networks. WLM and YAHOO. I'm (hopefully) buying an iMac tomorrow, but i won't be using iChat because I CAN'T. because pretty much all my contacts are on WLM or Yahoo, meaning i'll have to either install TWO official clients, or install a 3rd party multi-protocol client that probably has way less features. the video's interesting, but iChat's still gonna be useless to me. :|

You forgot to mention screen sharing which is great for solving issues over a distance. Its sad iChat still doesnt support higher resolutions even in fast networks.

only problem is dat iChat's audio SUX BIG TIME.

i compared skype, gtalk, ichat to video conference.

skype dorps out, ichat is unable to maintain picture and audio quality to even understand a person, and gtalk is flawless.

It's been a while since i first used iChat and now I tried it again.

And it works great. Desktop sharing is the shit.

Only stupid thing is that iChat opens a new window for each account you log in.... CONSOLIDATE.

And you can't add as many services. So I'm using Adium as my main IM client and iChat for special occasions where i need to explain something to some1 (who also has a mac, and a gmail account)

if they at least have a webcam, you can still talk over cam through iChat, but the quality isn't all that good talking over 2 different servers, but is well worth it :D

I've tried that, and the quality wasn't really good at all, thats for sure.. But I can't really force all my friends over to aim either, anyways..

It's a sad situation really.. I LOVE iChat with the simplicity, the technology and the integration with the rest of OS X.. I HATE microsoft messenger!!!

Okay, yeah, the quality is not horrible, yahoo is ten times worse.. (one frame per sec.. thats lame...) , but they have to make a new screen-name just to chat with me :P It's kind of a lot of work for them just to chat with me.. They are so into that msn crap, all my friends, that not a single one is on aim when I ask them... I live in Norway, and no one here uses aim or yahoo, or even know what that is.. Its like chatting=msn for them :S Anyways...

A lot of people like myself are having a "Communication Error" with IChat. I have a 2 week old Mac Mini with Leopard. I was on the phone with Apple getting Port assignments for my Wireless Belkin Router. Than I called Belkin & they instructed me on where type in each port Number. I have my Firewall Off in Leopard & also Off on router. Still same Error. There are some buddies I can connect with and IChat Video works great. Others, it never works with. Thanks.
