great video! awesome family tradition. Check out my flintlock vid I just posted from PA....I think you'll enjoy it based on what this video has on it! :-)
Nice shot on that doe and a very cool video! I'm hoping to get me a .62 cal smoothie any day now myself and can't wait! Have other flinters but I have yet to own a smoothie.
where are you at hunting in this video i live in wisconsin and hunt with the old percussion cap rifles and we usually shoot them at the end of november and in december with a foot of snow on the ground and even a year old deer up here is 100lbs or a little more
@CheesePuff76 Seems like you are the type of person who's whole out look on life has came from watching something on TV which is 99% fiction. Try coming up with something original.
@BeckumOutdoors I was not implying anything by it I was just expressing my opinion and I am a hunter also, a bow hunter. nice shot on that doe, I wish I could get my hands on a flintlock like yours, again great job on that doe.
Hey Beckum, Its Me Again ( Its TheNerdableVidGuy On My Homemade Gun Channel) I Was Wondering If You Could Help Me Out Again, You Know A Hell Of Alot About Hunting And How Our Ancestors Used To Do It, But Before The FlintLock There Was The MatchLock, I'm Building 1 As A Project But I Can't Figure Out How To Make The "Match" For It.
not all waffen uniforms have swastikas. The germans are one of the originators of camo. Some of the best camo ever. I noticed because I am a reenactor and I also use the camo while hunting
I now have Vol.1 and Vol. 2 of your deer hunting DVD's , I should say that these are the nicest hunting video productions I have watched in years. I am particularly fond of the focus on hunting ethics. From a production point of view, the narration over the video is great. Splendid piece of work. I cant wait to get out and hunt with my black powder rifle this year. I recommend this series HIGHLY.
Wow nice buck there at the end & beaut of a smoke pole. We are only allowed one deer without a bunch of travel. However we can hunt a few zones for moose on bow still without an 8 year draw wait. I usually fill my tag with does or small bucks then watch monsters walk by. I have never been a horn hunter as I grew up in a big extended family in poor times. I never have used a black powder but had hoped to try a old fashioned hunt with my Marlin .450. It jumps so bad though, naa 06.
Nice Video bud. I like how you showed other animals in their as well. I think that is most of the fun of the hunt is seeing all the other animals out in their natural environment. Great job. Also nice buck at the end.
I love it ! I love traditional muzzleloaders, particularly flintlock muskets. It just goes so well with hunting. I have been looking for hunting dvd's of this type. I am in Florida , and like the fact that this is traditional hunting IN THE SOUTH.
A fantastic production and some very fine old school hunting.
Congrats on all your harvests and on exploring harvest methods of our ancestors.
You do us all proud by setting such a great example. Your weapon sure looks beautiful, you obviously took pride in it and it shows. Very kule to see you harvest with it too, and as I do bow and shotgun hunt I can only imagine how hard it can be in some situations to not be seen positioning such a long rifle.
Thank you for the nice comment, its buy-out music, a company that sells DVD's to people that need royalty free music that they can add to their TV shows, news broadcast etc. the company is called Music 2 Hues, anyway, thanks & take care.
What caliber is the rifle you are using on the doe? I am just assuming you used round ball. I have taken several whitetail with my .58, but I am really getting the itch for a flintlock. I took a nice doe with my 12 gauge shotgun this year,.686 round ball,
Of all the videos that I have favorited (and there's a lot!), this one is pretty much head of the list! I'm definitely going to order your DVD when work picks up again in March, 2010 Absolutely excellent!! I just keep watching it again and again! Love the mellow music in the background as well, not the insane catfight that some people accompany their video postings with....
Thank you for the nice comments, & yes i think work is slow everywhere these days, hope everything works out for you soon, i agree with you about some of that crazy music, thats one reason we hunt, to get away from all the noise of the modern world, and it's getting harder every day, good luck, & thanks again, Brian.
Well my brother Brian the other half of BeckumOutdoors is the man that builds those fast firing guns, i can tell you that he builds a very well made rifle and all of his flintlocks are very fast, it is not the powder. He is hunting/filming so i tried to answer your question best i could, but he is the expert. I am a primitive bow maker! Try to e-mail him later this week he would be glad to explain his flintlocks. Thanks
verry well done. I have gone back to recurves and shot my first buck this fall and loved it. nice guns think i might have to try and build one myself. have you ever bought kits from track of the wolf they have tons of muzzleloading stuff
ive been trying to get up to hunting status with my recurve and i was wondering if u had the problem with having a good day of shooting then the next day cant really hit anything
Love your flint lock, thinking about getting me one.I'm going to get either a Long Land Brown Bess 75 caliber,or a English Fowler which is a 69 caliber, and 68 inches long. What do you think.
The start music is a commerical buyout music from Music 2 Hues for TV and video, the CD is called Fiddle Sticks. It is fairly expensive but you are buying copy rights to the sound tracks! Hope enjoy! If you decide to buy you can send a money order and it will be the same price that it is in the U.S. Send to BeckumOutdoors 609 Halfmoon Rd. Rincon, Ga. 31326 $22.95 each DVD total price shipping included Thanks Brian
The running time on Vol. 1 & 2 is a little over an hour! I think you will enjoy them and yes i believe they are great Flintlock hunting DVDs, and they are the only Flintlock hunting DVDs for Whitetail Deer ever. Thanks for your interest...Brian Beckum
Well Thank you very much and Flintlocks & Whitetails Vol. 2 will be on the web-site Sept 5th and i hope you enjoy this one we are very happy with it. Also there will be a new fishing dvd available also! Thanks again Brian Beckum!
Hmmm...nice shot.
Really impressive for a smoothbore. I am thinking to buy one, but have no idea what's the effecitve range of that smoothbore musket.
Could you tell me?
Regards and keep the good work :D

Say are the rounds made of lead?
Madmachine73 1 year ago
@Madmachine73 Allright then if it's lead. Isn't it toxic to eat or do you cut the piece of "infected" flesh away?

ever tried hunting with a matchlock or wheel lock they are just as fun as flintlock but with more challenge.
