@longboarders1 You can still use the camera with 1 battery in the battery grip. The battery grip simply gives you the ability to load 2 batteries to provide additional battery life for your whole rig.
Grats for that reviev. The battery grip is a must have if you have big masive hands. It really improofes the work with the camera. And with the second battery in the grip the charges last allmost for ever.
@JMM629 I actually do not have this camera anymore. I moved up to a 5D2 and shoot mainly with my 85 1.2L. When I had this camera, I used a 16-35mm a lot for a walk around lens, and also used a 24-70mm.
Very helpful indeed! the 7D battery grip is a very trustworthy addition to the camera, in all respects. great grip, longer usage, and a better view for any situation. Thanks for making this video, it made all the difference. :)
@asianlaxer in my opinion , that distance in between what appears semi professional and professional is small these days. d7000 is all everyone want. visit... freedslr . c0m change 0 with o and try to get a chance to win a new Nikon D7000
@ptlofts Wwhich is more important to you; functionality or build quality? Both original and 3rd party grips function correctly and does the same job accurately. However, that's where the similarity ends. The BG-E7 for the 7D share the same magnesium alloy frame and is weather sealed. The pattern/colour of the rubber grip area is also different and you may find the overall feel of the original grip better; especially the option dial which offers a better clicking sound and feel to it.
2 packs total. the battery grip slides into where the original pack goes. I don't think this grip is weather sealed too. Sorry I don't have this camera anymore. I now shoot with a 5D2.
@michaelcabrera I don't run a grip on my 5D2...I really try to pack more light these days. I do believe the size is roughly the same, if not the 7D is slightly bigger.
I happen to have that same setup, and the bg-e6 on the 5D MK2 . when using the vertical shutter button, it is very easy to fire accidentally. hair-line trigger. this is why i dont use it that way. when i shoot a wedding or a model or something, i like to count to three sometimes before taking the shot. sometimes the shot gets fired on one, or two; it's embarassing.
@KarmagraphyBM Sorry for the late response. I just realized I can't make a video for you because I don't have this setup anymore. I'm shooting full frame now, 5D2 with an 85mm 1.2L is my everyday setup now. It really is pretty straight forward on setting up the strap.
7D is a full frame camera silly. I love mine and used the same lens to shoot a wedding. Standard battery lasted 10 hours. I was getting low and it would be nice to have the reserve power.
@Krumkee Connecting it is rather easy. You take the little battery cap off and stick it on...it's like a puzzle, pretty self explanatory once you have one in front of you.
Cool, thanks for the vid man, been shooting a 7D for a couple of months, grip is the next step. Had a non-canon grip for my 1000D (I think it's an XSI in the States) but the built quality was shoddy. Going all Genuine from now on. Thanks again
@jessejubilee I think it could almost double your shoot time. After all, you are adding an additional battery. It depends too on other factors like how many shutter clicks, IS or no IS, etc. There are a lot of advantages to having a grip, but it will add weight and size to a camera.
Its just an opteka hand strap. You can get it on Amazon or off Opteka's website. It was around 10 dollars shipped i think. Canon makes one too, but it's over 20 dollars i think. This one also comes with a screw in bracket for the bottom of the camera incase you don't have a battery grip on your camera.
I thought the quality was pretty good. Its pretty much the same as the 40d though, so if you thought that was cheap, you might think the same of this. Its all subjective though.
yeah, I know what you mean. I would look into a Zeikos or Opteka. I think the quality is similar, and the price is about half....they get the job done too.
i'm pretty new to photography and i'm thinking of upgradeing to this model and gettin a battery grip. On the nikon website they say adding a battery grip and useing diffrent type of batterys or cards bumps up the fps dose this grip do the same or have i got it wrong ? awnsers would be appreciated

you don't need to use the joystick to control the AF points. You press the right button (AF button) then move the dial to move the AF points. If you want to change the AF pint type, you press the "M-Fn" button on the front.

I have a grip for the 40D, the grip feels very cheap. The buttons and wheel on the grip aren't as good as the buttons on the 40D.
How is the quality of the BG-E7?

it gets the job done, I just expected more considering the price you pay for it. The grip here (bg-e7) is 180 euro that's 250 dollars.
