Hope these many "it's called football, dummy!" idiots realise that the term soccer was coined by the British and is short for "Association Football"...
Did Kevin Toms spend his zillions of pounds on cocaine and fancy women. I bet he's on the dole now or works for Tesco. Saw his adverts in computer mags. A photo of him pointing to gameshot of the goalposts/players screen. Big fat man with beard and mullet. Couldn't be arsed to buy an assembler/compiler. Probably made the cassettes in his garage. His adverts were everywhere. All the mags every issue.Must have cost a bomb in advert rates.
Sometimes there was passing, of sorts. If a player fired a shot and one of his team mates was in the way the team mate might kick it as well altering the direction 45 degrees.
I remember more than 20 years ago, I used to go to my village on holidays and play with this thing day and night. I couldn't even pronounce these weird names of the english lower division teams (like Rochdale and Torquay)
I agree it is called football, but I have been out of the UK for almost 20 years now... so when in Rome do as the Romans... thats why I call it 'soccer'.
My first program wasnt much more advanced than that, but it was on a BBC though. I too learned how to program on the Spectrum and still am to this day.
I think what Kevin Toms lacked in programming genius he made up for in shrewdness. Football Manager came out for just about every computer that was going. He must have made a small fortune.
Many games today seem to be falling into similar genres. The variety of games available for the spectrum was amazing even thought the graphics are lame by todays standards. I liked commando.
If you know about the basic programing, are the other results of matches just random, or are they calculated to as much depth as the man u v blackpool match?thanks for the upload.
All matches use the same algorithms that the Man. U v Blackpool game in the demo used. This game is really sophisticated and complicated for a Basic programmed game. I take my hat off to the people or person who developed it.

For goodness sake, stop mumbling. He tells us nothing and repeats himself over and over again. Don't give up the day job.

Ahhh, the memories. Thanks for this video. I remember getting my Dad addicted to FM back in the day.
The speccy changed my life.
My first ever program:
10 Print "Paul woz ere"
20 Goto 10
I haven't stopped programming since. Good times.

I always thought this was too easy and over rated. Football Director was a much better game.

Cool video, very interesting, never knew how advance the original Football Manager was with it's highlight bit.

Yes, this lay the foundation for games which incorporate the sport management gaming aspect. This was where it all started.
